Hello everyone. As I was working on two of my other power rangers fanfics, I got a good idea for a Power Rangers Jungle Fury fanfic. This is basically a retelling of the season but from my OC's point of view. I do not own power rangers in any way shape or form. The only character I own is my OC Sophie Hargan.
So without further ado, here's the First Chapter! :)
It was a warm day at the Pai Zhuq Academy and a young woman at the age of 18 was walking towards the training area with the other students in her class. She was a cub at the Academy and had only been there for about a week. She had long brown hair that had a natural wave to it and bright green eyes. She wore the traditional blue Pai Zhuq uniform, however to her the uniform felt and looked more like pajamas. Her name was Sophie Hargan.
She and the other cubs stood in front of the training area. Before each of the cubs stood a small table with a basket of towels on it. Today Master Mao the head instructor of the Academy was going to pick three of the six finalists for something important. Since she and the other students in her class were cubs they weren't told what the three were going to be chosen for. The reason the cubs were there was so they could hand out towels and drinks of water to the more experienced students after their training.
Sophie let out an annoyed groan when she looked down at the basket of towels in front of her. “I so did not sign up for this school to be a towel girl,” Sophie said in what she thought was a quiet voice but a young male student next to her heard her and chuckled slightly.
“You're not the only one,” he whispered to her. "Although for me it would be a towel boy."
Sophie's eyes grew wide when she heard him say that. She couldn't believe that she had said that loud enough for someone to hear. “You're Sophie right,” the young man asked her in the same quiet voice.
Sophie turned to him and nodded. The young man was 18 years old. He had short blonde hair that was spiky near the top and blue eyes. “And you're name is Casey isn't it,” Sophie asked him. She was pretty good with names but she had a hard time with faces. She could have sworn that the two had spared together once during one of their classes.
“Yep that's right,” Casey said giving her a smile which made her blush a little.
“Wow he's really cute,” Sophie thought to herself. “I didn't get a chance to get a good look at him when we were sparing.”
“We spared together didn't we,” Casey asked her.
“Yes we did,” Sophie told him.
“Thought so. It's not every day a guy gets to spar with a pretty girl,” Casey told her causing her to blush once more. “Oh and by the way, you got lucky when you beat me.”
“Oh did I now,” Sophie asked with a raised eyebrow. “Let me guess, you were going easy on me?”
“Yeah,” Casey said. And though she could tell that he was lying she decided to play along anyway.
“Well the next time we spar I don't want you going easy on me okay,” Sophie said giving him a wink.
Casey was about to respond but before he got the chance one of the instructors banged the large gong causing both he and Sophie to jump out of shock. They turned their heads and saw the six finalists get to their feet and bow to Master Mao.
“You are the six finalists,” Master Mao told the six students before him. “I'm looking for three.”
Master Mao then clapped his hands together as the signal for the six to begin sparing. Casey and Sophie watched the six spar with awe on their faces. At first it seemed like all six were evenly matched. That is until a young girl at the age of 18, with long curly blonde hair and blue eyes started to glow a yellow color. She had called forth her animal spirit which looked like it was the Cheetah. The spirit shot out of her and charged at her opponent knocking him to the ground.
“Whoa,” Casey and Sophie said together.
The same thing happened with another young finalist. He was 17 years old and had short brown hair and dark brown eyes. After he regained his balance from a heavy blow to his gut by his opponent, a blue aura appeared around his body. He then called forth his animal spirit which was the jaguar. The animal spirit shot out of him and charged at his opponent knocking her to the ground.
While the other finalists played fair while sparring with their opponents, this finalist wasn't as nice. He showed no mercy while fighting his opponent. Sophie noticed an evil smile appear on his face after he knocked down his opponent with a heavy kick to the gut. Even though his opponent was already down he still called forth his animal spirit which was the lion. The spirit shot out of him and charged for his opponent making him fly through the air before hitting the ground with a hard thud. The finalist went to attack again but Master Mao stopped him.
“Jarrod,” Master Mao said causing the young man to turn to him. “Lily. Theo,” Master Mao said as he turned to the woman with blonde hair and the man with short dark brown hair. Once he got their attention he continued. “Join us in the great hall this evening.”
Jarrod, Theo, and Lily bowed to Master Mao and the gong was hit once more ending the sparring session.
“That was awesome,” Sophie said.
“I know,” Casey agreed as he began to pour some water into glasses. “I can't wait until we learn how to fight like that.”
Sophie nodded her head in agreement as she started to take out towels and place them on the table for the more experienced students. “So what's your story,” Sophie asked as she glanced at Casey.
“Excuse me,” Casey asked as he turned to her with a raised eyebrow.
“What made you want to come to the Pai Zhuq Academy,” Sophie asked trying to make conversation.
“Oh, I just wanted to learn how to be able to defend myself,” Casey told her. “Plus I thought this style of fighting seemed interesting. You?”
“My older brother Dominic attended this school a few years back,” Sophie explained. “He was one of the best students the Academy had seen in a long time. I really looked up to him. So after I finished school I decided to come to the Academy to learn from Master Mao just like he did. When Master Mao found out I was his sister I think he expected me to become just tough as he was. But I'm no where near as good.”
“Don't be too hard on yourself,” Casey told her. “It's only your first week.”
“That may be but my brother discovered what his animal spirit was within the first week,” Sophie told him. “The week's almost over and I haven't found out what my animal spirit is yet. Maybe it was a waste of time for me to come here.”
“Don't feel too bad,” Casey said. “You're not the only one who hasn't found out what their animal spirit is. I'm beginning to think I don't have one. All the other cubs are starting to at least show some signs of what their animal spirits could be but me...nothing. So you're not in this alone.”
“Thanks Casey,” Sophie said.
“No problem,” Casey told her.
“Hey towel girl,” Jarrod said with anger in his voice as he walked up to Sophie. She looked up at him and saw that he was approaching her. “Why isn't there a towel in my hand?”
“Because you didn't come and get one,” Sophie said showing Jarrod that he didn't scare her.
“Wrong answer cub,” Jarrod said as he approached her. He knocked the basket of towels off of the table in front of her. He then shoved her causing her to fall backwards and hit the ground with a hard thud.
As Jarrod moved closer to her Casey ran up to him and gave him a towel. “Here's a towel,” Casey said. Jarrod glared at him and took the towel. “And her name's Sophie not towel girl.”
“Ooh look at the little cub trying to act all tough,” Jarrod said as he shoved Casey making him fall backwards and hit the ground.
“Casey,” Sophie yelled when she saw him go down.
“Shut up towel girl,” Jarrod said as he turned to her.
An angry expression appeared on Casey's face and on Sophie's face. Then before they new what was happening, the face of a tiger appeared over Casey's face and the face of a cougar appeared over Sophie's face. Casey let out a loud roar that sounded like a tiger and Sophie let out a loud growl that sounded like a cougar. Jarrod was then knocked off of his feet as the shock waves from their roars hit him.
The face of the tiger disappeared from Casey's face and the face of the cougar disappeared from Sophie's face. They stared wide eyed at each other.
“What just happened,” Casey asked her.
“I don't know,” Sophie said.
Just then they heard a growl of rage as Jarrod got to his feet. “We're sorry,” Sophie told Jarrod as he began to approach the two. “We don't know what happened.”
Master Mao clapped his hands signaling Jarrod to stop. Jarrod spun his head around and he bowed to his master before walking away. Casey got to his feet and he helped Sophie to hers.
“Thank you,” Sophie said.
“For what,” Casey asked.
“For sticking up for me,” Sophie told him. “That was brave. You didn't have to do that.”
“I know, I wanted to,” Casey said. “I couldn't just stand there and watch Jarrod bully you around.”
A small smile appeared on Sophie's face. “I'll help you clean up your station,” Sophie told him.
“You don't have to,” Casey told her.
“I know,” Sophie said as she started to make her way over to where his towel stand was. “I want to.”
Casey smiled and he followed her. From that moment on the two became almost inseparable. But little did they know that their fast friendship would soon turn into something more.
Well that's the end of the first chapter I hope everyone enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun writing that chapter. What did everyone think of Sophie being Dominic's little sister? It'll definitely be interesting when he comes back later in the story. I'll try and have the next chapter posted soon. :)
