CHAPTER ONE
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave birth to it returns again. Yet all are reborn, and all that was will be again. Some things never change and yet nothing is ever the same. Let the Wheel weave as the Wheel wills.
The wheel weaved a wind that blew through the plains of Saldaea, yet the wind had not begun there, as the Wheel doesn't know
beginning nor end.
Gareth al'Tor y Trakand t'Mantear rode on Butter, his horse and was interrogating his friend and teacher, altough that last part had been more then fourhundred years ago, because Gareth was sucked through a hole in the Wheel. The only reason why Damer Flinn was still alive, was because he could channel the One Power and make it do things for him beyond people's imagination. The only thing they both had to do for that was opening themselves for the True Source. Which was a mortal danger. Saidin, the male half of the True Source was a deadly wave of boiling Light, and it could kill or severe them (to cut them of of the True Source, still being able to feel it, but not to touch it.) Women handeled Saidar with more pleasure because they had to welcome it, surrender themselves to it in order to make it do whatever they want. If a man surrendered himself to Saidin, there would be nothing left but a pile of ashes.
"So no Aes Sedai is bounded to the Three Oaths?" Gareth asked. The Oaths we're to make sure that the Aes Sedai didn't use Saidar except when in Mortal Danger, against Darkfriends or Shadowspawn or to save another Aes Sedai or their Warder, a man who has been bounded to protect the Aes Sedai.
"No not anymore, you see, the staff was lost during the Movement of the Ajahs, so they can't do it anymore."
"That's a bit of a problem."
"Well most of them do try to live by them, but they don't always succeed." Damer told me. Sometimes when he talkes so energiticly you'd forget that he is a very old man, he was in his seventies when he started channeling! That would be fourhundred years ago. "But it's hard for them to you know, especially for those in the Aes Asha'man Sedai who are bounded to us, channelers,"
Gareth nodded, "I understand that, but I don't get it."
"What?"
"I just had another link to my memory, why don't we Travel?"
"We are to close to the border of the Black Tower, they would notice a Portal for this amount of people," he pointed at the 112 Asha'man and the 50 Aes Sedai around him, who were accompagnied by an army of 500 soldiers. "They would follow us, and even with this amount of people we are not strong enough to withstand them."
"I see, so where are we going?"
"I thought it wise to go to the Green Ajah, they guard the Great Blight and will surtenly follow you, they never had any patience with the war between the Ajah's, even though they are the Fighting Ajah."
"You thought well, Damer. We are in Saldeae now right?"
"Yeah,"
"How much longer untill we reach the Green Ajah?"
"I'd have to say, five days at least."
"Good." He looked around him untill he found a open spot. "We make camp, there." He pointed at a fairy-like place, near a waterfall, where frogs where hopping around in the stirring water.
"Yes, my Lord. We make camp here for the night," he spoke outloud to the men surrounding them, they were the Elite guard of the Compagniens, whose only job was to protect the Lord of Morning, Prince of Dawn and True Defender of the Light, Gareth al'Tor y Trakand t'Mantear.
The Compagnions immediatly started to make camp, using Saidin and bare hands, the Aes Sedai helped where they could, but they felt to good to use their hands.
They haven't lost all of their pride I see, they are as worse as they were in the last Age.
As soon as the Asha'man set his tent, he walked into it, dropping himself in the bed that stood there. Just as he had closed his eyes, he heard a small cough. He immediatly stood right up and looked at his unwelcome guest. Who, after a first look, was not so unwelcome anymore. It was one of the Aes Sedai that travelled with them, a Green one, she had long brown hair that reached to her bottom and grey, looming eyes. Her figure was amazing. She walked to him and seated herself on the bed. Suddenly Gareth was aware that he wore nothing but his underpants, so he swiftly took a shirt and putted it on.
"Good evening, miss...?"
"My name is Allenia, prince of Dawn, Allenia Sedai of the Green Ajah." Her voice was pleasant and soft, and her eyes were sparkling bright.
"Very well, what are you doing here at this hour, Allenia?" he tried to say it stern, but it simply didn’t work, her presence was too soothing.
"Well, my Lord," she spoke as her hand slightly touched his arm, "I thought, 400 years, that's a long time. After all you are human, I thought you might need some... companie of a female, to talk to after all these centuries."
Gareth felt astonished, Aes Sedai didn't act like this one in his Age. "Well a pleasant chat is always welcome, my dear Allenia. Let me call for some wine. Aren! Aren! Get some wine please?"
"Of course, my Lord, whatever you please." The sixty year old servant want after cooled fruitwine, that tasted perfect for Gareth, together with the sound of the waterfall and the presence of Allenia. She was a very beatiful women, and they talked for the whole evening and part of the night, when Allenia excused herself and said that they both needed some sleep.
That morning Gareth stood up with renewed strenght, he never felt better than he did right now, so he walked up to the practice fields that some Asha'man had made, and joined them in duels.
They all looked surprised to see Gareth between them, you could see the respect in most of their eyes, in most of them.
Suddenly a man, as tall and broad as an oak stood forward and said, "So you are the Prince of Morning, aren't you?"
"Yes I am." Gareth answered with a calm voice.
"You don't look so strong, do you even now how to handle that sword you are carrying?" he started poking Gareth on his shoulder. Immediatly Gareth's hand snapped his fingers and he said, with a voice that only Lan Mandragoran could do better, as cold as death.
"Touch me one more time boy, and I'll let you feel that I can handle that sword."
No one spoke around them, people kept coming to see this and he even could discover Allenia in the mass, his heart skipped a beat.
"Well then show it." And the man took his sword, a long thick thing, and pointed at Gareth. "Take it if you have half the balls you show here."
"If you must take a lesson." he slowly took his sword from the shell and placed it in front of his face. It was a long sword, right but with a little twist at the end. The handle was black with gold and, more importantly there was a slight mark on the blade. A heron stood there, fiercly. "I will give it to you."
You could see a bit of fear in the eyes of the man, as he saw that he challenged a swordmaster, but it disapeared as quick as it came. The swords hit eachother in a flash of bright sparks. Then the play began.
The first attack of the man was fierce but still clumsy, Gareth just stepped aside and let the blade fling back on his. The man looked surprised, and then his eyes narrowed.
With a loud scream he rushed at Gareth, who had a tiny smile on his face. Gareth just simply swinged his sword against that of the man and hit him frontal in the face with his fist. He felt the bone break under his fingers.
‘Aah!’ the man screamed loudly, covering his face with his hands after he dropped his sword.
Gareth calmly lay his sword at the nape of the man.
‘Do you yield?’
The man hit the sword away and took his. ‘Never.’
And he rushed forward giving the best of him. At first Gareth was surprised and lost some space. The bloodthirst in the eyes of the man grew. But then Gareth got over the surprise and started fighting back. It looked like a war between a man and an ant, altough here the ant was much bigger then the man. Gareth had no problem with precisering the man’s strikes on his sword, and after five minutes everyone saw that Gareth was just playing with him. Every strike could be the last.
And then it happened. As the man gave a strike forward, he got out of balance it was all Gareth needed. He just hit the man with the blank of his sword right on his head. He collapsed, and when he was on the ground, Gareth walked with a big smile to the gathered crowd. They all cheered his name. And Allenia even came forward and gave him a keen kiss on his cheek.
Suddenly he felt something, best described as an evil feeling that camed from his fallen victim. Gareth instantly knew that the men was attracting Saidin and channelde himself. His Block that made shure that the man could not get to the True Source was so strong that the man fell on the ground again. Gareth weaved Air around the man and lifted him into the air.
‘What is your name, man?’ Gareth said his voice dripping with so much anger that everyone except for Allenia unintentionally stepped back.
The man moaned. ‘My name is Roland.’
‘Have you not learned the proper respect for your superiors Roland, have you never learned that Sometimes you should just give up.’
‘No, … Sir.’
Gareth laughed, and it wasn’t a pleasant one. ‘Well you certainly have balls, lad, that might let you live.’
He dropped Roland from six feet above the ground. ‘Carry him out of my sight!’
‘Immediatly two Asha’man bowed and took Roland to a cell.
Another day like this and it’s Lightday. Unintentionally he grimaced. This might be a pleasant trip.
‘Are you coming my Lord of Morning?’
‘Yes, of course Allenia.’ He gave her his arm. ‘Are you in the mood for another conversatietoon? I’d like to learn more about current political situations… And of course some pleasant chit-chat.’
‘Of course my Liege.’ laughed Allenia with an amused look in her eyes.
