Chapter 10
Cameron thought for a moment. If they were just going out as friends, they should bring Emma along.
“We’re bringing Emma.” She said.
House looked surprised. He really had just wanted to go out to dinner with Cameron only, but he would never admit that. “Ok” said House.
Emma met them up at the diagnostics area. She was immediately excited about going out to dinner. She couldn’t picture House and Cameron eating dinner together again after the disaster date Cameron had told her about.
They all went home to get dressed for dinner. Cameron got Emma a nice dress when they went to the mall last week so she was well prepared. Cameron sat in her room debating what to wear. She wanted to look great. She wasn’t sure if it was because she wanted to dress up or because a certain doctor was going with them that she wanted to impress. As she was looking through her closet she saw the dress she wore to their date a long while back. She bit her lip as she thought about the dress. Lately, that date had been on her mind quite a bit. She decided, to put on the dress.
She subtly put on more makeup than what she usually does at the hospital. She was thinking how insane this was the whole time, but she didn’t hold back. She put on her heels and walked out of the room.
“Wow, you look great. Trying to impress someone are we?” asked Emma.
Cameron was startled. Emma was too observant sometimes. Cameron started to get nervous and Emma noticed.
“Uh, I was just joking, but judging by your reaction I’d say we have something to talk about.” Emma started to giggle.
Cameron sighed and hid her face in her hands trying to hide her embarrassment.
“Hmm. Now why would you want to impress a fellow doctor… You could want to go back to the hospital, of course that’s not it….You could want to do a study with him, but that’s not it… You could however want to sleep with him… Ding Ding Ding we have solved the case!” stated Emma with a smile on her face.
Cameron’s jaw dropped and she was speechless. “Emma! Where do you come up with these things?! Why would I want to sleep with your father!?”
“Do you want to ask Wilson if he agrees that you are trying to impress House? I’m sure he agrees…Any organism with a mind can clearly see that you still have some feelings for him.” She said.
“I’m over him Emma. End of discussion.” Cameron said confidently as she grabbed her purse. Now let’s go and forget this ever happened. “This conversation goes nowhere outside of this house.”
“Ok.”
Cameron rang the doorbell to House’s apartment and Wilson answered.
“You two look very nice.” Said Wilson.
“Thank you. Are you coming along?” asked Cameron.
“No, I’m busy.” He answered.
“Oh, is House ready?” she asked.
“House! Come on!” screamed Wilson.
House limped his way up to the door and stopped when he saw Cameron. He knew he remembered that dress from somewhere. He gave Cameron a questioning look and she just shrugged.
They walked out to Cameron’s car and Cameron decided she was driving. House was still thinking about where he has seen the dress. The whole car ride he just kept staring. For some reason, the dress gave him chills, and he didn’t know why.
“What is wrong?” asked Cameron.
“The dress.”
“What about the dress.” Asked Cameron getting slightly nervous.
“I don’t know. That is the problem.” He said.
Cameron didn’t answer. She just continued driving. Then House thought about all the times he has seen her in a dress. Then it hit him, it was the dress she wore on their date. Why would she choose that dress? Did she forget about wearing that on their date? Women never forget about what they wear, it’s just the way it is.
“Did you just buy the dress?” House asked.
“No, I’ve had it for a while.” She answered.
“Hmmm. Well it suits you much better as a brunette.”
Emma noticed the comment and started looking into this. He had to have seen her in that dress before.
“Well maybe I will just dye my hair back then.”
“Are you going to go completely back then. I mean, are you going to go back to your old emotions and old feelings.” Asked House.
“Maybe I will.” Said Cameron.
Emma was completely confused. Was House referring to old feelings she had for him?
They continued to drive to the restaurant. When they got there Emma looked at Cameron questioningly. “What was that about.”
“Nothing.”
They sat down at the table and they ordered their drinks. After that, Cameron excused herself from the table to go to the bathroom.
As soon as she, left Emma started questioning House. “What’s up with the dress?” she asked.
“That’s the dress she wore on our date.” House answered very casually.
“What!?” Emma didn’t see that coming.
“Well she was in love with me so we went on a date.” Said House.
“Yes I know, but why would she wear the dress again?” asked Emma.
“I don’t know. It’s driving me crazy. I should question her when she gets back.”
Emma laughed. “I’m sure she’ll love that.”
Cameron came back and they ordered the food. The dinner was pretty much spent not saying anything. House waited until she was done eating to start the interrogation.
“Why that dress.” Asked House. “Still have old feelings?”
Cameron rolled her eyes. She knew that one was coming. She sat and thought for awhile. Emma realized Cameron was becoming uncomfortable so she excused herself from the table.
“House, this is not the time or the place for this discussion. You don’t say this kind of thing in front of your daughter! She already thinks I still have feelings for you. Don’t let her get her hopes up. She thinks we should get together because then she could see you more often.”
“You aren’t supposed to have feelings for me. You better not.” Said House.
“What are you talking about?” Cameron was getting disgusted.
“Wilson said you better not start crushing on me again.”
“House, I like you as a friend. Occasionally, you’re a real ass… I have learned to deal with it.”
House looked at her with piercing blue eyes. “Do you… Still have feelings for me?”
Cameron was startled and didn’t get to answer because Emma come back. Her lack of answer had House worried.
“Let’s go.” Said Cameron. They payed the bill and headed out. The car ride home was spent in an awkward silence. When they pulled up to the two apartments Emma got out of the car as quickly as possible and ran straight to the door. “Goodnight House.” She screamed. He nodded his head.
Cameron closed her eyes. She had hoped she wouldn’t have to deal with this tonight. She knew, she had to.
House got out of the car and Cameron followed suit. House walked over to her side of the car.
“Answer the question.”
“House, I’m over you.” She stated.
He brushed his fingertips across her cheek. “So if I do this… You still don’t have feelings for me?” he asked.
Cameron’s heart stopped as chills ran down her spine just at the slight touch. “No” she answered as calmly as possible.
House’s lips crashed down on hers. He kissed her for a few seconds and then she started kissing back with even more passion.
House pulled away with a grin. “Now, you want to tell me you have zero feelings for me?” he asked.
“It was just a kiss and you kissed me remember.” Cameron said a little shakily.
“Yes, but you kissed back with a hell of a lot of fire missy.” He stated with a smile.
Tell me what you think… Was it too fast?
