Chapter 1: You are Rosette Christopher.
She walked in a slow pace through the streets, her high heels clicking each time they hit the paving stones. The moon was barely seen on the night sky as the clouds were covering it, the rain pouring down. The last couple of days hadn’t been easy for her.
She did not know who she was, where she was or what exactly she was. She could only remember the last couple of days she had lived. Her eyes had opened in a huge room with rows of benches, an altar and a cross. She had felt the presence of someone in her arms; she had actually seen a person in her arms… And this person had crumbled. Disappeared. And she felt she had had a great loss in her heart, like this person had been important to her.
But she could not remember him.
She had run from the place, the heavy burden of wings on her back. She had found people, trying to communicate with them. But each time people saw her, they ran screaming away.
She felt the tears prickle in her eyes, but she refused to let them go. Why she wouldn’t let them go, she did not know.
She let a hand comb through her wet, blonde hair, before she clutched it in her hand. Why did people fear her? She didn’t look that different… Did she? She stopped in front of a window belonging to a ship, looking at her reflection.
Her long ears were furry at the tips and where her ears were attached to her head. Above her ears were a pair of ivory horns, seeming like they should have been pointing straight upwards, but happened to be tilted backwards. She stretched her wings, looking at the huge size they had in the window, while she could see the end of her metallic scorpion tail between her legs, while she knew it started from the back of her neck. Her nails were long, almost like claws. Three small rubies were in her front head, shadowed by her fringe. Her blonde hair was reaching her waist, and her azure eyes looked back at her from her reflection, filled with lost hope and sorrow.
She gritted her teeth and turned away from her reflection in the window. Why would no one help her? Why did people fear her? Was she supposed to be dangerous?
Unable to stand anywhere the window where she had just seen her reflection, she began running. Didn’t she have any family there was missing her? Didn’t she have any friends? She kept running down the streets, her eyes closed tightly while the tears forced their way through her eyelids. She didn’t realize a figure was getting closer to her, or rather; she was getting closer to another figure in the pouring rain before she ran directly into the person.
She knocked both of them over, hearing the person below her gasps as he was pressed between the paving stones and her body weight. Pushing herself off of the man she had knocked to the ground, she looked at him scared “I-I’m so sorry! I-It was an accident!” She tried to get to her feet; she had to get away before he ran off in fear as well.
The man shot a tanned hand out towards her, grabbing her wrist. There was no way in Pandemonium he was letting someone knock him over and then run away.
She tried desperately to get out of his grip. What if this man didn’t run away in fear, but wanted to kill her instead? What was she supposed to do? She watched scared as the man got to his knees and look at her, a pissed off expression on his features.
The man growled lowly at the woman who had just knocked him over, until he got a look of her features. Surprise overtook his features as he studied her, before his expression become somewhat sad. “So that’s what he did…”
“W-what do you mean? A-aren’t you afraid of me?” her azure eyes kept looking afraid at him. She just wanted to get somewhere safe. She wanted to remember who she was, wanted to remember all the things she had forgot.
The man got to his feet, pulling her to her feet as well. Then he turned, and began walking in another direction than the one she had been running. He did not let go off her wrist. “You come with me.”
“W-what? W-Why?” she struggled to get out of her grip. She was afraid of the things he could do to her.
“Because right now, am I the only one able to help you,” he answered bluntly and kept dragging her, adding mentally “because obviously you don’t remember anything”
She looked scared ahead of her, not knowing what to do, other than follow this man. She had nowhere to go, so why not just follow him? She was just afraid that he might lie… Or there was another meaning to the word ‘help’ in his mind.
It surprised the man self that it took about an hour to get to where he lived for the time being. He hadn’t realized himself walked that far from his temporary home. Though, he hadn’t realized it raining either before he had stopped and looked at the sky, the rain drops hitting his face, just few seconds before the young woman had collided with him, and by that time, he had been soaked to the bone.
He sighed as he unlocked the door, leading her inside the house, before closing and locking the door behind them.
“…What are you going to do to me..?” she asked carefully, following him carefully into the living room. She watched as he pulled off his soaked shirt, revealing his torso. She noticed the bandages wrapped tightly around his arms and chest, along with the bandage wrapped around his left eye. Was he blind at that eye?
He sighed “Didn’t I tell you I would help you? Now, stay here.” He did not believe he was actually doing this. That he actually was helping her. He shook his head, walking into another room where he found towels. He threw one of them around his own shoulders, before he walked back to the living room, back to the young woman.
She watched as he returned. Her eyes widened slightly as he came closer and reached towards her with the towel until he touched her, beginning to dry her damp hair with it. She just stood there, letting him dry her hair “… Why aren’t you afraid of me, when everyone else is..?”
“Because everyone else is human. Humans fear demons, and you are a demon,” he explained calmly, wrapping her long blonde hair in the towel.
“… Why don’t you fear me then..?”
“Because I am a demon.”
She turned around looking at him “But… But you don’t…” she trailed off. He didn’t look the slightest like her. He looked human.
He sighed “This is not my true form; this is just to blend in with the humans. If you concentrate, your wings, horns and tail with disappear, while your ears will get shorter and your claws look like hands. You will look human, and not be feared by humans. Even those who have seen you in true form will not relate to you, as they do not believe that this is possible for demons to do. In the minds of a human, they think a demon can only look like a demon. Only those who hunt our kind know that we can look human. Though, the only traits that make you know if we’re demons are the fact we still have pointy ears and small fangs.”
She nodded slowly, studying his face, trying to find any kind of untruthfulness in his eyes, but found none. As he noticed the point ears and small fangs, she did notice that he had these traits. Nodding slowly again, she closed her eyes. If she had to concentrate, she had to close out everything.
He stood with the towel in his hands, watching as she concentrated, and slowly changed form “That’s right…” He had to encourage her. He had to teach her everything. Someday, she had to know about her past as well. Though, he was taken aback as her clothes disappeared as well, and she now stood in all her naked glory in front of him. His eyes widened at the sight, and he quickly wrapped the towel in his hands around her.
Looked confused at him, she blinked. Why did he do that? “Uhm…”
“Y-you just keep that towel wrapped around you, then I’ll find some clothes for you…” he hurried into his bedroom, finding clothes she could borrow. He had no women’s clothes, which meant they had to go for a shopping trip the next day. Though, his clothes had to do it for now. Might be he was used to a lot of things, but that wasn’t one of them. Hey, he wasn’t a pervert.
After half an hour of stress to him, and half an hour of confuse to her, it had finally worked out. She had had no idea of how to get dressed, and he had too uneasy with her walking naked around, with the need of him helping her to get dressed.
For now, she was sitting on one of the kitchen chairs, while she listened to the sound of him cooking. It had been an interesting half an hour, as she could not understand why he had been so uneasy. Though, as she finally had got dressed, and he had explained her that he first of all wasn’t used to it, and it wasn’t wrong, as they did not have any kind of relationships. As he had told her; she had not seen a single person walk naked around on the streets, and she would never get to see anyone walk naked around on the streets.
That’s when something else clicked in her mind. The word name. A name was something everyone had. She did not know her own, but what about his? Perhaps he even knew hers? “Do… Do you have a name..?”
He turned towards her, his violet eye watching her for a few seconds, before he let out a sigh “My name is Aion.”
“… Aion…” it sounded familiar to her, but she had no idea from where. Nothing else seemed to pop into her mind, other than the feeling that the name felt familiar. Perhaps she knew him, or had known someone with the same name..? “…Do you know what my name is..?”
He stopped dead in his tracks. Her name? Yes, he was well aware of her name. So far, it didn’t seem like any memories had returned to her, though, it could be she remembered something when she knew her own name... If she remembered, he was screwed… Hell, it didn’t matter. It’s not like he had anything left.
“Rosette. Your name is Rosette Christopher.”
