Feelings for My Motherland

The café au lait grazed her tongue and she longingly stared into the night sky from the sidewalk café. The quarter moon shone proudly and brightly, defeating the glow of the city; the stars an afterthought. Staring deeper, she tunes out the hum of passing motors and clap of heels against the pavement strolling past their table. An insistent voice breaks her trance, her eyes become unglazed.

"Usagi... is everything fine?" he asked; concerned.

She brings the cup down from her pursed lips, placing it atop the saucer. "Yes, sorry," she smiles and continues, "I was just reminded of home."
