Two hours later and Eva was still in the arms of John, her tears having finally stopped, she hung onto him, not prepared to lose him again.
"I'm sorry, John."
"It's okay, Eva." John started to make soothing circles on Eva's back.
"It was foolish of me I –"
"Shh." John gently pressed his lips to Eva, praying that she wouldn't push him away like she had done so many times before. Eva kissed back. Pulling herself closer to John. When the need for air became too great, they broke apart and smiled at each other.
"I've been waiting a long time for that, Eva."
"As have I." Eva closed her eyes as exhaustion started to take over. "I think I need to go to bed, John."
"I'll take you." John scooped Eva up in his arms and carried her through the halls of the hospital. Eva ignored the eyes of her nurses and the other members of staff that bore into her. She would deal with them when she felt up to it. They arrived twenty minutes later at Eva's private quarters. John placed Eva in her bedroom and turned to leave.
"Where are you going, John?"
"I didn't think you wanted me to stay."
"Please, John. Stay with me." Eva pleaded from her sitting position on the bed,
"Okay. I'll just let you get changed and get myself changed." Eva nodded and stood as John left to the living room to discard of his clothes.
Five minutes later, John went back into the room to find Eva lay in bed in a silk blue nightgown, with her glasses perched on the end of her nose and a book in her hands.
"Doesn't someone look beautiful." John walked up to the bed and pecked her lips before sliding in next to her. Eva placed her book and reading glasses on the bed side table and turned to face John. He pulled Eva close and kissed her forehead. Sighing, Eva rested her head on John's chest and closed her eyes.
"Goodnight sweetheart."
"Goodnight John."

Three months later Eva got the rule of no romantic relationships changed and she and John got married. A year later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She continued on at The London for another twenty years, then both she and her husband retired from their jobs and lived the life they had both been wishing for all their lives.
