Childhood.

Disclaimer: Hellsing belongs people who are not me. I am making £0.00 out of this fic, it is written purely because I have a burning need to create. Although I would like to own Alucard . . . then he’d be mine.

Rating: G

Set: Pre Manga/anime when Integra was young.

Authoress note: what is a child?

{Integra}

Integra wasn’t sure what it was that was making him behave this way.

Was it the fact that he had been held captive for so long? Or was it the fact that he had lived so long watching all around him die? Or was he just a prat to begin with? She had read the files on him and the fiction, she had spoken with him and she had watched him for nights upon nights; but still she couldn’t understand how he worked. Some times he would behave as if he had the weight of the world on his shoulders, slumped under all that weight he became quiet, withdrawn and it worried her at times.

But then there were times like now.

Currently she was trying to work; this in itself was not unusual. What was unusual or at least what should have been unusual was the fully grown male vampire spread over the rug on her floor like a cat. Occasionally she would look up from her work to see if he had moved, but more often than not he had not. She had asked Walter about this behaviour before and all he had said was “when you’re treated like a pet, I suppose you come to act like one.” Integra had frowned at that statement but had let it go. Saying her family had treated him like a pet was a mild understatement.

She watched him now as he rose with little effort to his feet and watched her back. They stared at each other in silence for a few minutes before his eyes went crossed, Integra raised an eyebrow and he smiled.

“If you’re bored I’m sure there are more interesting places to be than my rug.” She muttered after a few moments of watching him smile at her.

“You are bored as well, come with me.” He held his hand out, Integra frowned but not at him, rather she frowned because his offer was very tempting.

“I’m working.” She breathed and looked away from his hand. She knew he would be pouting and she rolled her eyes trying to focus on her papers. The pout might have worked when she first brought him up but since then she had seen him tear freaks apart with his bare hands and laugh at the blood and terror he inspired. So no pouting and trying to appear harmless didn’t work any more.

“You are to young to be so serious.” Was his reply. Integra made a face and hid a plane sheet of paper that she had doodled on under the rest of the forms and reports. “Believe me, I know these things.”

“You act like a child all the time, one of us must be the grown up.” She snarled at him, tired of this conversation already.

“I was king once, I was raised to be king, children cannot be king.” He snarled right back at her, in a mockery of her own tone. The words gave Integra pause, he had a point. She too had been raised to rule, but she was ruling an organisation not a country but she could see he was trying to let her know he could relate.

“Perhaps these can wait.” She said slowly, his responding grin nearly split his face.

End ficlet
