I don’t own D gray Man
Last Chapter:
He needed to know more, maybe they’d meet again and then he’d be able to ask her his questions himself. “Do you think we’ll meet her again?” Allen asked. No one answered. Kanda was meditating, Lavi was snoring on his bed and Lenalee was out on the balcony. “I hope we do” Allen whispered to himself….
Mercia forcibly dragged Michi out the door of the inn the next morning. Michi grumbled and whined. “I don’t see why we have to go shopping” he complained. Mercia glared and said “Because I’m a girl and a girl needs clothes. Mine are falling off me, so get your ass in gear and let’s go”. Michi eyed her clothes and said “They’re fine, come on you’re a general and generals do not go shopping”. “Tell that to General Klaud” she reasoned.
Michi blew his bangs out of his eyes and waited and waited and waited for Mercia to leave the shop selling lingerie. Someone who looked just like Michi only younger just so happened to be walking down the same street with his companions in order to get to the train station.
“Brother” Kanda said darkly, as he encountered the older version still leaning against the wall of the lingerie shop. “YU!” Michi proclaimed happily, much like an older Lavi. Kanda’s companions were looking really confused by this encounter. Mercia chose that moment to come out of the shop.
“You” Kanda exclaimed. Mercia giggled and said “Yes, I haven’t forgotten your name”. Kanda fumed at that. Michi decided to intervene at this moment. “Yu, I see you’re getting along with Mercia”. Kanda looked shocked or more his eyes widened for a second before returning to the ice mask. “Mercia? Mercia should be dead. That’s what I was told” he said.
“And yet I stand before you. Funny huh?” she said twirling around. “So you survived and hang with him” he said indignantly. Mercia nodded and Michi slung an arm after her shoulder and said “Yeah, she’s my babe”. Mercia shook him off and opened her mouth but Lavi interrupted first. “Yu, I thought you realised last night that she was alive, after all Komui did say she was”. Kanda twitched and said “Why would I believe that immature idiot of a scientist”.
Mercia hadn’t taken much note of Kanda’s companions but now her eyes glanced uneasily between them and she became tenser. Michi tried to make her relax a bit but he failed and so let her be. “Who’re they?” she asked, narrowing her eyes. Kanda ran through their names without pointing them out or introducing anyone.
Mercia looked between the other three, seemed to come to a conclusion and walked off. Michi followed after her and the others just stood there. “Did we do something wrong?” Lavi wondered aloud. “Che” Kanda said as he walked towards the station. The others scrambled to follow.
“Kanda? Kanda?” Allen tried to talk to the furious ice slab in front of him. “Kanda, don’t you think we should go after them? After all she is a general”. Kanda appeared indifferent and as though he hadn’t heard him. Allen tried again. “Kanda, I said-”. “I know what you said, bean sprout” Kanda interrupted “chasing after some random general is not part of our mission”. Lavi smiled cheerfully and said “But Yu, the earl’s dead. Chasing after her can’t do any harm now, can it?” He tried to put it persuasively and Kanda actually considered it for a moment before banishing it from his mind. “Not unless we are ordered to”.
Lavi and Allen got wish a couple of hours later, when Komui called and ordered them to go find Mercia and bring her back to the order, using force if necessary and the help of the other generals if she refuses. Booking a room at another inn, they settled into their room and went about amusing themselves until bed time. “Why the other generals?” Allen wondered, for once his mind not going to the worst part of that plan, that being seeing General Cross again.
Lavi answered his question. “Because Mercia’s powerful, but not enough to take on four generals without casualty and without losing, I think. Also she’ll be more inclined to go if the generals back the idea”. Kanda snorted and said “You talk like you know her. She won’t be as compliant as you’d like to imagine”.
Lavi looked indignant and said “Well then Yu, enlighten us as to what will happen when we make Mercia go back to the order. You should know well considering you seem to already know her well enough and she travels with your brother, not to mention his comment before”. Kanda once again turned his head sharply to the left and said “Che” before pretending to loose interest, while he imagined the scene that would inevitably take place.
Mercia would swear a lot and fight off all the generals or try to and then she make a break for it, make it about ten metres before the generals caught up to her and then try to get away yet again before knocked out by Michi, who would later state that it was for the best and she would forgive him and blah blah blah. Nothing new was in store for them. Except that her trust issues might kick in because of Allen and Lavi and as a result she might put up more of a fight. The generals were going home with some bruises after this trip.
“…Komui said she had some kind of gift…” Allen and Lavi’s conversation penetrated into his consciousness and he realised they were still on the subject of Mercia and that fool Komui had told Lavi about that. “…Though he made it sound more like a curse…”
Yes, Kanda mused, the gift from God himself that brings suffering upon its bearer, some gift it was. Living to a ripe old age and doing it peacefully are not options with that gift. “Kanda? Kanda” he noticed someone calling his name and he turned to see Lenalee trying to ask him something.
She noticed he was paying attention started speaking. “Are you okay? I know you were told Mercia had died when she was in the Ark and I wanted to tell you but I wasn’t allowed and I’m really sorry. I mean, I know you were close, so I thought that they would tell you because they told Cross and Michi but when I found out you didn’t I couldn’t do anything, you were acting normal again and I didn’t want you to leave, so I just let it slide. Please forgive me”.
“Che” he said and she beamed and went to join Lavi and Allen on the balcony, where they watched town, its buildings a coloured a glowing orange with sunset and the cobblestone streets darkening with the sky. Like it matters now, Kanda thought, she’s got Michi. She doesn’t need me, she never has. I knew I should have listened to the voice that told me to never associate with people beyond the feeling of mutual acquaintance less they grow on me. Now I couldn’t even threaten to kill her like I do Bean Sprout and Lavi. Oh how much further can I fall before I lose my touch completely…
