"All I'm saying, Sarah, is that well, I, well, you know." Norman looked down and watched as he right foot played with a rock on the sidewalk. He looked up into his best friend's beautiful blue eyes, "I'm .... Aww sheesh."
Sarah reached out with her right hand and placed it on his thin shoulder, "Norman, all you have to do is ask. The answer will be yes." She smiled.
"Really?" Relief was in Norman's eyes as he grinned.
"Umm Norman, you have too ask, you know. Otherwise we aren't really, you know." She wasn't going to say it. He was going to have to say what he had to say.
"Sarah, I would be honored. No, I mean." Norman still couldn't get his thoughts in order. Even through he knew she was going to say yes. It was still too difficult to get the words out. Breathing in and out, "Sarah, would you honor me; with allowing me to escort you to the dance this Saturday night?" He swallowed hard around the lump that had formed in his throat. There he had asked. He had gotten the difficult question out. He was still nervous ... Even through he knew her answer.
"Yes Norman Price, I would love to have you escort me to the dance." Sarah said with a slight blush on her cheeks. "It took you long enough to ask me."
"Well, Sarah, it's darn difficult to ask a girl out for the very first time, you know." Norman lifted his hands to his hair and ran them to the back. Than forward again, than back again. "I mean come on, I'm only fourteen after all. I'm not as clear minded and easy with the ladies as your Uncle Sam."
"Norman, it's all right. I was just trying to lighten the mood is all." Sarah gently said taking his right hand in hers. "I'm nervous too, you know. It's hard growing up isn't it?"
"It sure is. I wish we were back to being eight - where we knew where we stood with each other. Friends for life." Norman sighed. "But, we have to grow up don't we?"
"Yes we do." Sarah's head tilted to the side, "You are growing up just fine, Norman. You still go half cocked sometimes; and get yourself and us in dangerous situations. But, you are calming down more and more."
Norman couldn't keep the blush from his cheeks, "Sarah, would you care to be my girlfriend?" He blurted out.
"Oh yes, Norman, I would love to be your girl." Sarah smiled with a sparkle in her blue eyes.
"Than that's settled than." Norman moved closer to his girlfriend. "Have you ever been kissed before?" He whispered as his face was a few inches from hers.
"No." Sarah truthfully said.
"Would you like your first kiss?" Norman's breath hit on her face.
"Yes." Sarah whispered as her eyes slowly closed and she felt her boyfriend's breath on her face.
Norman closed the distance and gently laid his lips against hers. He felt her move closer as he felt his arms wrap themselves around her back, pulling her closer to him. Both of them deepened the kiss mutually, and his tongue entered her opened mouth. He felt her tongue enter his and they simply massaged each other's tongue's. Pulling away from her, "I think I'm in love with you, Sarah." He said unbashful. "I think I have always been in love with you."
"We are still too young for love, Norman." Sarah truthfully said. Noticing his downcast eyes. "I care about you deepily, Norman Price, always will. But, I'm not ready to be in love. At least not yet. I hope that when I'm older, and ready for love - that you will be that love."
Hope shinned in Norman's eyes. "I will pray for that every night. As we grow into adult hood, I'll be here waiting for you, Sweet Sarah. Even if we aren't meant to travel through life as man and wife - but just as friends; I'll always be by your side." He promised.
