I got this idea when I was listening to No More Heroes by Westlife… Please don't kill me… I was crying myself as I write this… :'(
This was going to be the end… no one could do anything. One bullet was enough, but three was beyond endurance.
Alex Rider was lying in Ben's arms, constantly drifting in and out of consciousness. Ben knew he wasn't going to make it. Wolf, Snake and Eagle were stood in the middle of the pouring rain. Snake had done all he could to save the boy. All they all could do now was to wait…
Ben was finding it difficult. He had spent a mission with the boy. He had been great, certainly a better spy than him. So why was he going to end up dying in the middle of the Brecon Beacons. No one had seen where the shots had come from. Just heard them. By the time they found the target it was too late.
Time was slowing down, not just for Alex but the whole of K Unit. None of them wanted this. None of them wanted to see a teenage boy die right in front of them.
Alex was shivering in the rain. Nothing would warm him up. Ben had put his '95 shirt over him. So he too was shivering. He had his rifle tucked behind his back out of the way. If you thought grown SAS men don't cry. Think again!
Ben had unnoticeable tears streaming down his face, hidden by the rain. Eagle was silent. Wolf was kneeling down next to Ben, his arm around his friends shoulder. Snake was staring into the distance feeling guilty that he hadn't done enough.
There was no noise apart from the rain hitting the soft sludgy ground.
"Ben… don't…leave…me!" Alex's voice was full of worry. Ben stared right into his brown eyes.
"I'm not going to Alex…I'm not going to leave you."
"Thank…you." He said his voice quivering slightly.
Then right at that moment the world stopped. The legendary teenage spy, Alex Rider died in the arms of Ben Daniels.
Ben stood up slowly and laid the boy gently on the ground. He turned to his friends and shook his head, just as the sergeant turned up, soaked through.
"He's dead." Ben told him. He sniffed. "There was nothing we could do. He was shot three times in the chest."
The sergeant's face went white.
"He was only fourteen." He said, Ben nodded and sank to the ground, his head in his hands.
