The Dream
Chapter 1
White; nothing but white light. Tamahome squinted his eyes, straining to see through the light and saw someone across from him. It was a shadow in the form of a girl to which looked familiar to him. As he began to focus, he realized who it was. “Miaka?” he called, his voice echoing. He noticed her turn to see him.
“Tamahome!” She cried, running to him. Tamahome noticed darkness pour from under her foot with her first step. It then loomed behind her like it was stalking its prey. Miaka’s tears of happiness became tears of blood. Out of the darkness, a figure in shadows cowered behind her. He couldn’t tell if it was male or female of who it was at all.
He wanted to scream to her, to warn her. ‘Miaka, behind you!’ was all he could mouth. The darkness began to spread and no matter how much he tried, even though he could feel his throat vibrate as he tried to yell, there was no sound. He watched helplessly in horror as Miaka fell from being struck. A puddle of blood began to form under her unconscious body. Tears pouring from his eyes, sad and angry ones, Tamahome began to run to her side but was stopped in his tracks. The darkness took over completely. No light brightened where he was. Tamahome then realized that he was suffocating. In a panic, he began to gasp for air but there was none. He slipped on some of Miaka’s blood and began to fall on his back. It seemed to take forever. He never seemed to be hitting the ground.
Suddenly, Tamahome sat up. In bed! He looked out the window to his right. The sun! Light poured through into his bedroom, brightening the room. He looked to his left at the nightstand. The clock read 4:15. It was still early in the morning. ‘A nightmare? It seemed so real,’ he thought.
“What does it mean,” he asked himself aloud. He pulled the covers off, got out of bed and walked out into the hall. He came to a door that led to another bedroom. He opened the door quietly and there, sleeping, was Miaka. ‘You’re safe,’ he thought, closing the door and leaning on it. “Is something going to happen to you?” he whispered quietly, closing his eyes.
