Disclaimer: Stephenie Meyer owns the Twilight Saga and all of its wonderful characters.
I write alternate stories with my favorite characters (mostly the Cullens) living different lives in different times.
This is all done in fun with no malicious intent at all. I just wonder about different story lines with my favorite characters, and want to get it all out.
A/N: First I have to thank my beautiful beta babe, Kaydee1005, for being so kind to beta this story for me in such a quick and efficient manner. You are the BEST!
I also have to give mad, proper thanks to ItsJustMe1217 for reading this and giving her stamp of approval on this story. She reads so many fics, that when she says it's awesome, it means so much.
This was so easy yet so hard to write. I hope you enjoy it.
This One Time
I couldn't understand why in the world the one man who claimed to love me, didn't want to talk to me anymore. I decided that what I needed was an outsider's opinion. I needed someone who wasn't a part of our tribe.
I had no idea why I thought he could help me, but I had no other choice at the time. I knew he was in on the secret. I saw him and another man talking to my boyfriend and the tribe elders in a secretly called meeting.
It was a long shot, but I felt that he was my only hope.
I gave him a call that cloudy Saturday morning, crying and confused. I begged him to meet with me, explaining to him why I would want to talk to him over anyone in the Quileute tribe.
He agreed to meet me just north of Forks in a small clearing in the forest around two o'clock that afternoon.
For my alibi, I told my boyfriend that I was going to go into Port Angeles to buy a dress that I had been saving my money for. He smiled and said, "Happy shopping," and gave me a warm kiss just before I left.
I drove my boyfriend's old Volkswagen to the edge of the reservation and hid it in a thick grove of shrubbery and trees. I pulled out a backpack that contained hiking gear and a picnic blanket. I kept it in the car for when my we would picnic on a whim.
The whole hike was a stressful one for me. I kept checking over my shoulder for my boyfriend or anyone else from the tribe. I didn't want to be caught out in the foothills alone. There would be questions that I just could not answer.
For almost an hour and a half, I hiked through the rocky terrain before finally arriving at the clearing. I slowly walked into the opening in the forest, looking around the tree line for him. I had the feeling he was there, I just couldn't see him.
I decided to wait for him to show. I pulled out the thick, plaid picnic blanket and laid it flat on the damp ground. I sat in the middle of it, pulling my backpack close to my chest.
I began to feel very afraid. I didn't know if I was afraid of him or afraid of being caught out here with him. After some thought, I decided it was a little of both.
Time passed slowly while waiting for the stranger to show himself. I thought for sure he was having a laugh at standing me up. I decided to pack up the blanket and hike my way back to the hidden car.
As I was bent over, picking up a corner of the blanket, I felt him standing behind me. I dropped the blanket and turned to face the tall stranger.
My heart was pounding a mile a minute. My hands were trembling. My breath was jagged.
"Are you afraid of me?" he asked in a deep, velvety voice.
I looked up into his amber eyes. "Y-yes, but I don't know why."
He placed his large, cool hands around my small, hot hands; his golden eyes bore into mine. "Good. You should be."
I swallowed hard. I couldn't figure out why he wanted me to be afraid of him. I started shaking as my nerves overtook my body.
He helped me to sit on the blanket. Guessing that I was cold, he took his jacket off and draped it over my shoulders. "I won't hurt you. That's not my intention at all. I need you to understand that if I leave suddenly, it's because the temptation has become too great for me to maintain my self control. Do you understand?"
I nodded and watched as he sat facing me. I sat still as he was not moving. I held my breath as he appeared not to breathe. I didn't blink as his eyes didn't flutter.
He broke the uncomfortable silence by asking, "Why exactly did you call me here?"
"Well, I saw you talking with people in my tribe a few weeks ago. I heard that there was some sort of secret that you knew about our tribe. My boyfriend, Sam, mentioned your name specifically, saying that you were the cause of it all. I figured why not go to the person responsible to get some answers."
I reached for his hands in hopes of getting him to look at how desperate I was, but he quickly moved out of my reach and said, "Why should I help you? You are with the tribe, and we just don't help each other. It goes against nature."
His answer puzzled me. I felt like he was trying to confuse me on purpose so I would leave without any answers. I couldn't figure out why he would meet with me and not want to help, but I stuck to my agenda and begged him again for help.
"Edward, I understand that you want to uphold some sort of deal your family has with our tribe, but I have got to know what is happening."
To which he replied, "It's best that you don't." He was sticking to his agenda as well. He didn't want to help me.
I decided to play my damsel in distress card to get the answers I was looking for. "It's not just an idle curiosity to find out secrets, Edward. I am worried about my own safety as far as Sam is concerned," I said, making sure my tone was weak and frail.
He faced me, his golden eyes looking me over, and asked, "What's going on?"
"Sam has been changing right before my eyes," I said in a soft, tiny voice.
His interest in the situation peaked when I mentioned that fact. "He's changing? How?"
"He's becoming more distant from me. He gets angry over the smallest of issues, trembling beyond his control. He runs off and disappears for quite a while. The last time he was gone for two days without a word to anyone about where he was and what he was doing. When he finally came home, he was naked and muddy. We argued and it ended with him telling me to leave and not to come back for a day or two."
Edward picked up my backpack. He dug through it, pulled out a small towel, and wiped a tear from my face. When he was finished, he handed me the towel with a comforting smile. Until that point, I hadn't realized that I was crying.
"So, Sam is changing in his behavior towards you? Has he hurt you?"
I dropped my gaze from him as I answered, "It's not like that, Edward. He did hit me, but it was only that one time. The incident was purely an accident. I was blocking the door so he wouldn't leave during one of his fits of anger. He reached around me to pull the door open and his elbow hit me square in the eye."
Edward reached over and gently lifted my chin with his cold, statue-like finger. He studied my face. He lifted his other hand and very lightly traced the outline of the bruise under my eye as he gently spoke, "I am so sorry he did this to you, Emily."
I smiled at his kindness and replied, "It's not your fault, Edward. I knew I should have let him leave, especially when he gets like that. I didn't go with my instinct that time."
Edward shook his head and glanced at the sky. He looked back at me and said, "You don't understand. This is because of me." He kept his finger under my chin, ensuring that I kept my gaze on him.
The clouds broke away for a moment, allowing the sun to shine though. When the sun hit him, he lit up with flickering beams of light. It looked like shards of glass grew from his skin.
Instantly, I was mesmerized by how brilliant he was. "You're glimmering," I said in my hypnotic state. "It's amazing."
The clouds quickly chased the beam of sunlight from Edward's skin. When he fully ceased to sparkle, he said, "Do you see it now? I am a monster… a wretched being that lives on the blood of others."
"A cold one?" I asked, fully knowing the stories the elders told as we sat around the fire during ceremonies.
He nodded at me. "Yes, that's what your people call us."
"What does you being a cold one have to do with Sam?" I asked, still under his dazzling spell.
"Sam is changing into a being that is supposed to protect you from me," he explained. "He's going through the change from human into creature."
"He's trying to protect me?" I half-laughed. "He has done nothing but push me away."
Edward smiled and explained further. "Whether or not you believe it, he is trying to make sure you are safe. He doesn't have control over his abilities yet and he's afraid that he will hurt you. That's why he keeps leaving. Do you understand that now?"
I stared into his deep, golden eyes. I saw nothing but compassion in them for my situation. I couldn't believe that he was a cold one. I didn't see a chilling killer before me; I saw a man that cared for me more than anyone else at that time.
I don't know what came over me in that instant, but I found myself wrapping my arms around his neck and forcing my lips to his. I pulled myself onto his lap, wrapping my legs around his cold, marble frame. One hand went into his hair, twisting tightly into the strands and my other hand wrapped around his neck and pulled him towards me.
He pushed me back and gruffly said, "Emily, this isn't right. We shouldn't be doing this."
As my lips hovered over his, I whispered to him, "I don't know what's come over me, Edward. I just can't help myself." I pushed my lips back to his, deepening the kiss slightly.
He pushed me back again. "You're right. You can't help yourself. Everything about me invites you in... my voice… my face… even my smell."
"You're wrong about that, Edward. It's your kindness and caring that has me wanting you right now. It's been so long since I have felt loved like that," I said as I slowly unbuttoned his shirt.
"Emily, I can't," he said, removing my hands from his shirt. "This is wrong. I could seriously hurt you if this goes any further."
I stared deeply into his eyes. I couldn't see the monster that he was trying to use to push me away. "Edward, I need this… please don't reject me."
He sat silent, studying my face, and his gaze went to the bruise under my eye. He slowly leaned forward and pushed his lips to mine. He gingerly laid me back until I was lying on the blanket. He quietly spoke into my lips as he kissed me, "I'll do this for you, but it can only be this one time."
I nodded as he took his lips from mine and began kissing down my jaw, then making the journey to my neck. He gently sucked on the sensitive spot behind my ear as he began unbuttoning my shirt.
He slowly kissed his way down, tore the center fabric of my bra and removed one of the cups, exposing my breast. I felt the vibration of his groan in my chest as he squeezed it with his hand. His mouth went to my nipple and gently traced it with his tongue.
He gently squeezed, removing the other cup and his lips kissed their way over to the other side. He teased that nipple with a little more tongue, making it pert. He softly played with it in his mouth, as his hands trailed down to the waist of my jeans.
He quickly unfastened them and was cinching them down past my hips towards my knees. He was still tickling my nipple with his mouth as he slid his fingers down between my legs.
He let out a deep groan when his fingers danced across my lips and felt how wet I was. Almost instantly, he slid his cold, long fingers into me while pressing his palm into my clit. I heard him softly mumble, "So hot," as he kissed down my stomach. He began moving his fingers in and out of me, plunging them deeply with every penetration.
His mouth found its way to my clit. His tongue danced lightly around it, teasing it and making it tingle. All of a sudden, his tongue stopped moving. I was about to protest and pull his head into me, when he surprised me by sucking my clit into his mouth.
I reached for his head and found myself tangling my fingers into his hair. I pulled him into me, arching my hips upward. I moaned as he intensified the suction and dug his fingers into me deeper hitting the very spot that would bring me to ecstasy.
Tingles began rushing through my body as he flicked at me with his tongue and massaged that spot with intensity. The tingles were quickly becoming more frequent and pleasurable. I had never felt that sort of sensation before in my life.
I arched up into him again as my walls tightly squeezed around his probing fingers. I let out a moan as the pleasure of orgasm ran through out my body.
As I lay there trying to catch my breath, I pulled him up to my face. His lips met mine with a deep, passionate kiss. I worked my hands down his hard, stone body and began unzipping his pants.
He quickly grabbed my hands and asked, "What are you doing, Emily?"
I blinked at him, not quite understanding why he was questioning my intentions. "I wanted to return the favor."
He instantly sat up and said, "That's not necessary."
"I want to, Edward," I assured him. "I really want to do this."
He stood up and fastened his pants. "I can't let you," he said nervously.
"Why?" I asked, as I slipped into my shirt.
"It's not right. We aren't married. I shouldn't have done what I did," he answered as he picked up my jeans and handed them to me.
"Then why did you do it?" I asked bitterly as I took my pants from him and put them on.
As soon as I finished fastening my pants, he approached me and lifted my chin again. "Because, Emily, you are clearly irresistible to me, but you belong with Sam."
I dismissed him with a snicker.
He leaned down and gave me a soft kiss, his cold, full lips barely touching mine that time. He quietly whispered, "I do care about you or else I would have never agreed to meet you here. Please be safe."
He turned from me.
"Edward, wait."
Without turning around to look at me, Edward stopped and said, "Emily, please let your tribe know that the Police Chief's daughter will be moving here soon and to keep their distance from her house. I know your tribe members and the Police Chief are friends, but technically that is our territory."
Before I could respond, he was gone.
I took my time in getting home. I was hoping Sam wouldn't be there so I could have some time to myself. But, luck wasn't with me that time, as Sam was walking towards me the second I stepped inside of our home.
"Do you need help, Emily?" he asked, quickly approaching me.
I answered him, nervous that I would be caught in the lie. "No, I didn't buy anything. They didn't have my size in that dress I really wanted."
"That's too bad," he said as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He bent down to kiss me and stopped. He began sniffing. "What's that scent?"
"What does it smell like?" I asked, almost instantly scared for my safety. My heart began racing and my hands were shaking slightly.
"It's like almond mixed with honey and lilac," he said taking another sniff.
Fearing that he could smell Edward on me, I became panicked. Quickly, I came up with an excuse for smelling as I did. "It must be a mix of the perfume samples that they were spraying in the department store."
Sam inhaled deeply. "No. That smell is not a mix of perfume, Emily. I know that scent, because I've smelled it before," he growled. "That smell belongs to Edward Cullen."
My heart stopped. I couldn't believe he figured it out from just slight aroma. "Sam, I can explain."
He began trembling uncontrollably. "Why do you smell like that bloodsucker?"
"Sam, it's not what you think." I said, slowly taking a few steps back from him.
"Then explain it, Emily," he deeply growled at me.
"Sam, I just wanted answers to what was happening to you. I only asked Edward because you blamed him for this." I kept moving backwards until I was up against the door, trying to give Sam some space.
He was violently trembling, making his outline just a blur. His vibrations were getting worse by the second. The next thing I saw, were his clothes exploding and sending shrapnel of fibers and thread everywhere.
He had transformed from the man I loved into some sort of large, fantasy creature. The part that was his hand reaching out for me, turned into a large, black paw that hit the top of my head. I felt the sharp claws rip through the flesh on my face.
I screamed out in severe pain and fear. I fell to my knees, desperately clutching at my torn face with my shaking hands. My untouched eye looked at the creature before me as he leaned down to look into my eyes.
Sam was no longer the man I knew and loved. He was transformed into an animal – a large, growling, black wolf.
A/N: Thank you reading! I hope you enjoyed it. This was one possibility that I came up with for Sam to become angry enough to scar Emily for life. And technically Edward is still a virgin. LOL
