Haven't done a warriors fanfic in a long time, huh. Well, except for LTW. Still, here's a short little TigerXDove one-shot!
"Dovepaw," Tigerheart whispered, "come with me."
Dovepaw turned, but Tigerheart had already disappeared into the foliage. All that she saw was the black tip of his tail. Out of pure curiosity, she followed him.
Though she couldn't see him, Dovepaw could see where his paw prints were. She stepped in them as she followed, noticing how much larger they were than her own.
"Dovepaw." Tigerheart had stopped near the shore of the lake close to his home than hers. "Dovepaw… I don't want to do this, but… Tigerstar… he's making me. He threatened to kill me."
"What do you mean?" Dovepaw frowned. None of what Tigerheart was saying made sense.
"I'm a coward," Tigerheart continued. "A big fat coward, and I'm not proud of it. I hate it."
"What do you mean?" Dovepaw repeated.
"Tigerstar found out that I was meeting you." Tigerheart's words were barely audible. Perhaps it was because Dovepaw had been expecting them that she could hear them loud and clear. "He said… he said he would kill me if I didn't kill you."
Dovepaw felt the unimaginable pain of betrayal swell up inside her. The pain numbed everything, and then it was replaced by sadness. She felt her heart plummet like a stone falling into the lake. Then, another thought struck her.
"It would be worse pain losing you," she choked. "I'm glad you're a coward. Now I don't have to live through the pain of losing you."'
"You… you want to die?" Tigerheart asked.
"If it was that or losing you," Dovepaw agreed.
Tigerheart looked around. He spotted a bush with bright red berries hanging from it.
"I wouldn't be able to stand the pain either," Tigerheart murmured. "I would have to live with knowing that I had killed my love."
"So what do we do?" Dovepaw asked, her voice numb with loss that was yet to come.
"We die together," Tigerheart answered. "I don't want to follow in my father's paw steps; I want them to be entwined with yours."
Tigerheart raised a claw and slashed of a stem of a bright red berries. Dovepaw's eyes widened as she realized what he was proposing.
"Yes… we'll die together," she finally announced.
"Together," Tigerheart echoed.
The both bent their heads down and bit into the berries. Each of them swallowed three deadly, poisonous berries. Pain shot through Dovepaw, and it was met with blackness. She felt no more.
