Julian watched Ricky as he snored on the couch. Ricky had passed out an hour earlier, drunk as a lord. Taking a sip from his rum and coke, Julian could understand why Ricky got so drunk. Lucy was pregnant with Randy's baby. Not only was it not Ricky's, it was Randy's.
Leaning back comfortably, Julian ran his free hand through his hair. Ray and Bubbles had left Ricky on the couch and a mess in the kitchen. Julian got up, stretched and started to straighten up.
"Jules?"
Slightly startled by Ricky's rasping, Julian looked over his shoulder. Ricky had rolled over, peering hazily across the trailer.
"Jules? You there?" Ricky tried to heave himself into a sitting position. Julian rushed over to steady his friend. Clutching his head, Ricky moaned softly.
Julian patted his shoulder. "I'll get you some aspirin, buddy."
Ricky grabbed Julian's wrist, not wanting to risk head ache by shaking it. "Y'got some weed, Jules?"
The stronger man wrested his wrist free from Ricky's feeble grip. "You're calling me 'Jules', Ricky. That's generally a sign you've had enough."
Ricky collapsed back on the couch. "But I love ya, man. Jesus. You and fuckin Bubbles. You guys are the best."
Julian absently agreed. "Sure, sure." He held out a bottle of water. "Drink this, Ricky."
Water suddenly exploded everywhere. Ricky had thrown the water bottle. "God dammit!" Ricky shouted. "Lucy's pregnant! WITH RANDY'S BABY!" He began to stand up. "We can't just sit here, Julian! We gotta do somethin'. C'mon!"
Sighing, Julian pushed Ricky back onto the couch. "Sit down, buddy. There's nothing we can do about it. Let's deal with it in the morning, ok?"
Slumped in defeat, Ricky closed his bloodshot eyes. His head was pounding, his tongue felt swollen and his mouth was dry. Julian would take care of things. He always knew what to do.
"Ok, Jules." He said mildly, pulling a blanket around his shoulders. "G'night."
Julian shut the lights off. "G'night, Ricky."
