Chapter One
This summer with the Dursleys wasn’t like the ones before it. Dudley was still on his diet, and the Dursleys still pictured Harry as a freak but didn’t bother him because of the threat of Harry’s convicted godfather. Those things were the same, but this simmer, Harry had Sirius with him. But the Dursley’s thought Sirius was Harry’s godfather’s dog, and had no idea that the large black dog was actually Harry’s convicted godfather.
Harry had healed from all of the injuries by now from the attack on Hogwarts that he fought with the Order of the Pheonix at. He now had a light scar across the top of his chest where Voldemort’s poisonous blade had slashed him. The six claw marks also from the previous year were very light scars now, and not to visible. But the one that was the most odd was the lightning bolt scar on his right palm. The scar looked just like the one on his forehead, but even more like lightning.
Harry still remembered the night of the attack, when he had gone with Voldemort to duel. If he hadn't than his godfather Sirius and friend Remus would probably be dead. Him dueling Voldemort had caused Voldemort to leave and not direct the attack, so they had been able to win the attack. But he tried not to remember all of that.
He was actually enjoying this summer more than others, since he could talk to his godfather without the Dursleys even knowing, and he could do magic without anyone but himself knowing. By using wandless magic, it was undetectable by the people who sent notices for people who did.
The summer was even more enjoyable, because he wouldn’t be at the Dursleys for much longer. He was going to go live at Remus’ house along with Sirius. He just had two more weeks left.
Since Dudley was on his diet still, Harry got very small meals, and Sirius got the same thing as Harry did.
"This is what they fed you all last summer?" Sirius asked in his mind.
"And the summer before that. Yeah, but the Weasley’s, Hermione, and Hagrid all sent snacks."
"Still, that’s not enough for a growing boy."
"Hey, I still have some Muggle money. We can go buy something at the store. Or I still have a big box of candy that people sent me after the attack. Or I can always conjure something to drink, or something small to eat."
"Sure, what do they have at muggle stores?"
"Anything really. Come on, I’ll sow you."
Harry leashed Sirius and they walked to the store, without any questions from the Dursleys. Sirius was amazed at everything they had in the muggle grocery store. Harry bought some bread, fruit, and pre-cooked chicken for them to eat. They went back the Harry’s room, where they ate happily.
The next week and a half went by fast, and Harry was all ready for Remus to pick him and Sirius up. But the day that Remus was supposed to pick them up came and went. The next day Harry heard a yell from down stairs.
"Harry, get down here, a man is here to collect you!"
Harry quickly got his things, and walked downstairs along with Sirius. But standing at the door, frightening uncle Vernon wasn’t Remus, but Snape!
Snape was dressed from head to toe in black muggle clothes, and also wore over that a black trench coat, like some muggle mobster. That was why uncle Vernon looks do petrified, not just because he’s a wizard, but he looks like someone from the mob. Harry stood there shocked that Snape was standing in his doorway.
"What are you doing here?" Harry asked.
"Come on Potter, you to Sirius."
Harry did what he was told and carried the rest of his stuff down the steps. Sirius transformed and helped him. Harry’s Aunt and Uncle were shocked, and stepped back, their faces filled with fear.
"Sirius Black!" screeched his aunt.
"What are you doing here?" roared his uncle.
"Fulfilling my duties as his godfather of course. I already discovered you weren’t feeding him enough!"
"He gets as much as my Duddyikins gets!" Aunt Petunia said, but stepped back with fear.
"But he’s as fat as a giant, because he’s a big pig!"
Aunt Petunia was too fearful to say anything, so was uncle Vernon. But suddenly as they stood there, he got enough courage to step forward and say something.
"I demand you leave my house at once!"
Harry’s uncle stepped forward and threw a punch at Sirius. But Sirius ducked and hit him in the chest hard. Harry didn’t want Sirius to get hurt if his uncle suddenly was on a rage. Using his wandless magic, he levitated his uncle into the cupboard under the stairs, along with his aunt. The two just barely fit in the small cupboard where Harry had slept for ten years. Then he closed the door and locked it. He would leave them there for Dudley to find.
Next he picked up his trunk and Hedwig’s cage and walked towards the door where Snape was standing with a half smile/ half-serious look. Sirius followed, while transforming into the large black dog that he was. Snape walked out side, where there was a black car waiting for them. He got into the front driver’s seat.
"Get in."
Harry and Sirius didn’t question him, but got into the back of the car, where Sirius transformed, since no one could see them anyway. Snape began to drive then.
"Where’s Remus?" Sirius asked.
"Albus said he had to go do something for him."
"Then why are you here?"
"Potter will be staying at the Snape Manor, since Remus Lupin is busy, and you are a convict."
"All summer?" Harry asked.
"Yes."
"Wait, you said Harry was staying with you, what about me, I’m not leaving him alone in your house the whole summer."
"Albus said I have to let you stay also." Snape said in a grim tone.
"This is going to be an interesting summer." Sirius aid quietly to Harry.
"I bet."
"So Harry, lost your temper with your relatives back there didn’t you?" Sirius said with a grin.
"Well I didn’t want him to hurt you."
"I could manage. Nice small cupboard too, they got what they deserved." Sirius said evilly.
"Try sleeping there for ten years." Harry muttered.
"What!" Sirius said loudly.
"Try sleeping there for ten years, that was my room before I got my Hogwarts letter."
"Why those! If I had know I would’ve…"
"Sirius, calm down."
They talked quietly for a half an hour, while Snape drove and was silent. They were going really fast on the highway, when suddenly a muggle police car pulled them over.
"Stupid Muggle Law Enforcement!" Snape sneered.
Harry and Sirius laughed quietly. The police man came up to Snape’s rolled down window. Sirius had transformed, because the police had been looking for him. Snape pulled out his wand and muttered a memory-erasing spell. The policeman looked up after a minute of daze.
"Nice driving." The policeman said, then he got back into his car and drove away.
Harry and Sirius laughed, as they began to drive again. Snape glared at them with an icy stone face, but didn’t say anything to the two laughing people in the back of his car.
After another hour of driving they slowed down, as they drove up a long driveway, announcing that they had arrived at the Snape manor. They got out of the car when they stopped and looked around.
The Snape manor was a large old house that could easily be five times the size as the Dursleys, and a large plot of land. It looked dark and dreary. It was in the middle of a huge plot of land that also had the dark old mood the house as well as Snape had. There were woods surrounding most of it. The house itself was dark green, and gray, and had magical plants growing on one side up the walls. There were many windows too.
"Stop staring and follow me." Snape snapped.
Harry and Sirius exchanged amused looks and followed Snape into the large manor house. They entered through the oak doors and stepped inside the place that was one of the last places they ever thought they would ever be.
The inside of the manor house was huge, and unexpectedly clean. Everything was in either dark green or black, but there was no dust or dirt anywhere. There were dark but decorative rugs on the ground. Surprisingly the house wasn’t that bad, even though it was a little dark and belonged to someone Harry didn’t like. There was an old oak staircase to the right, and other doors and openings to different rooms. There were many pictures on the walls, that had what Harry guessed were his relatives or ancestors because many of them had the same icy stare, ugly nose, and some shared Snape’s greasy black hair.
Just then they heard a squeaky voice, which belonged to a house elf. It looked like Dobby, but was a girl, and wore a dark green pillowcase looking clothes.
"Good morning master Snape, is there anything you need for your guests?"
"Yes Serry, prepare food for three, and make sure you finish cleaning out the rest of the rooms on the second floor."
The house elf bowed and scurried away. Snape turned back to the amused Sirius and Harry.
"Breakfast is at eight, lunch at twelve, and dinner at six. If you are late, then you don’t eat. Now come upstairs an I will show you your rooms."
Harry and Sirius both grabbed Harry’s stuff and followed Snape upstairs. They passed several pictures that had to be Snape’s parents. Once the reached the top of the stairs they walked a little further down the hallway.
"These two are your rooms. Don’t go in any unopened rooms unless a say so. And Sirius, don’t make me angry!" With that, Snape left Harry and Sirius alone.
"What was Dumbledore thinking, making us stay with that git!"
"I guess he had some reason, we can talk to him later, let’s look at our rooms, and then find something to do."
They walked into Harry’s room first, which turned out to be connected to Sirius on one wall. It was all draped in dark green, including the bed, window curtains, and rug. The furniture was oak. Sirius’s room turned out to be the same. Sirius frowned, and then got an evil grin.
"What?" asked Harry.
"Well, with all this green for two Gryffindors staying at someone house, we might get depressed, so mabey we can cheer things up a little?"
Harry grinned. Sirius then pulled out a wand.
"How did you get a wand when you’re an escaped criminal?" He questioned.
"Albus said he had his ways for getting one for me. So, how about some Gryffindor colors?"
The rooms after they were done with them were then in dark red and gold colors. Harry would hate to see Snape’s reaction to what they did. But the rooms now looked a lot better.
By that time, it was time for lunch and a few minutes before twelve. They walked down the stairs and down the hall looking for where they were supposed to eat. There was the dinning room off to the side not far from the stairs next to the kitchen. Snape was just sitting down at the end of the medium sized dark oak table. Sirius and Harry hurried in and sat down where two plates were next to Snape. Two house elves carried in plates of mini sandwiches, some weirdly made potatoes in cheese sauces, fruit, and pitchers of pumpkin juice.
They ate silently, and Snape said nothing. Sirius and Harry didn’t say anything either. After lunch Snape stood up, and did speak as they were leaving the room.
"Albus will be here soon."
Just then they heard a knock on the door, announcing Dumbledore coming. Snape rushed past them and greeted Harry and Sirius.
"Good Afternoon Severus, Sirius, Harry."
Snape showed them to a room with couches and chairs, not surprisingly dark green. Then Snape left.
"I’m sure you are wondering why you are here."
Sirius was about to say something, but Dumbledore continued.
"I sent Remus on some Order business, which included spying in the ministry, and making sure everything for Arthur going for minister of magic is set up. Sirius, you will need to join him soon enough."
"What about Harry, you can’t just leave him here with Snape!"
"Snape is completely fine. This is the last place Voldemort will look, and we were able to put some other spells that will keep him from finding Harry. There will be no arguing in this matter Sirius. Severus’s house is the safest place right now. Later he will be able to move into Hogwarts, but he should be here for the time being. Now, if you have any more dreams just contact me immediately Harry, and Remus will be here tomorrow for you Sirius."
With that Dumbledore left. Harry knew that Dumbledore was doing the best he could, but staying with Snape alone would be the last thing he wanted for his summer. He gloomily went back upstairs with Sirius.
"I’ll try to make Dumbledore reconsider, but I doubt he will. I’m sorry Harry."
"I know."
For the rest of the afternoon they sat around talking, and played wizard chess. They ate dinner quietly, none of them saying a word.. They talked more after dinner, and then Harry reluctantly went to bed.
