It's been a quiet day so far for the Blue Watch at London's Blackwall Fire Station. Geoff was in his office doing paper work as usual and John was also in his office, the rest of the watch were in the mess, Recall was looking at the shares online on the DreamCast with Adam peering over his shoulder and the others were sitting around the table. George however was sulking down in the gym.
"Has anyone seen George?" Sally asked.
"Last time I saw him, he was in the gym sulking with himself." Adam answered.
"Don't you think someone should talk to him?" Sally asked.
"Nah just leave him Sal." Adam answered.
"Someone should talk to him. Come on he must feel awful and confused. Do you know he was planning to propose to Andie" Sally said waiting for support from the other members of the watch.
Everyone looked up. "And he went mad at Hammond for getting anywhere near Kelly, so he must still have feelings for Kelly." Hi - Ho said.
"100 points to Hi - Ho." Hyper said sarcastically.
"Oi shut up!" Hi - Ho said.
"Laydees hand bags!" Recall said walking away from the DreamCast.
"Ok," Sally said, "So whose gona talk to George." Sally asked. "Come on lads!" she said raising her voice.
"I'll go and talk to him." Recall said, "Has anyone spoken to Andie?"
"I did last night, and she's in a real state, she said she found the ring in George's coat pocket and was really excited because she knew he was going to propose. She asked him after he stormed out of Eve's christening but he didn't say a thing. She's heartbroken guys, we've gotta get some sense into George."
Meanwhile, Dr. John Carter from County General Hospital had just landed at Heathrow Airport, London. He was on a break from Chicago which was kind of a business trip. He was over in London to meet his parents and stay with them for the weekend.
"Excuse me," Carter said to a lady wearing a badge saying 'Anne - Marie Jason -- Airtours.' "Can you tell me the best way to get to the Blackwall?"
"Yes of course, you could either get on the underground to Shadbrook then get the train to Blackwall or walk to Blackwall because it really doesn't take that long, or you could get the bus directly or catch a taxi. If in doubt you could get a map. Sorry if I don't sound very helpful, I'm stuck in here all day and I don't actually live in London, I travel in from Surrey each day." the lady said.
'No that's fine," Carter said. "Thank you."
"That's ok," the lady said, "Enjoy your stay in London."
George was in the gym lifting heavy weights, Recall was in he doorway watching him and George hadn't noticed yet.
"Stop taking everything out on yourself George." Recall said.
"Come to gloat have ya?" George said, "I'm not taking everything out on myself, just leave me alone Recall."
"No I haven't George." Recall said. "You know Sally said that Andie's heartbroken."
"I didn't mean to hurt her, but how could I marry her if, if."
"You're still in love with Kelly aren't you George." Recall asked.
"I am, and if it wasn't for Chris Hammond, my so - called mate we'd still be together."
"You don't know that George, you two have argued before and you nearly got divorced." Recall factfully said to him.
"I KNOW IT!" George yelled at Recall. "We've got two lovely kids, Shaun and Ruby and we always wanted the best for them, and now I hardly ever see them."
Recall left George alone and walked up the stairs back to the mess to join the others.
Carter got off the train at Shadbrook and decided to walk his way to his hotel room in Blackwall. He was approaching a zebra crossing where a teenage girl was crossing. Out from no - where a car came speeding up, it swerved and tried not to hit her and went into the side of the building.
Carter ran up to the car. There was a guy in his ealry twenties at the wheel, ho looked semi - concious. "Hi, can you here me?" Carter asked. "What's your name?"
"Jamie." the guy said quietly.
"Okay Jamie, you're gonna be just fine. I'm a doctor and I can help you."
"My leg hurts." Jamie said.
Carter looked down and could see that the guy's leg was trapped with a big piece of metal sticking into it. "Hey, hey you." Carter called out to the teenage girl who was staring over at the car, looking shell shocked. He walked up to her.
"What." the girl said.
"Can you call an ambulance, and the fire brigade for me please." Carter asked her.
"It wasn't my fault, it wasn't my fault." the girl said starting to get hysterical.
"I know, I know." Carter said. "Can you please call 911, I mean 999." he said.
She looked at him like he was speaking a foreign language, and ran away.
'Come back, come back! You need to be looked at by a paramedic." Carter yelled.
He walked back to the car, "Hey Jamie, i'm going to call an ambulance and the fire brigade so they can get you out of here okay."
"ok." He said quietly.
Carter got his mobile phone out of his bag, and dialed 999.
"What service do you require?" He person in the control office said.
"Ambulance and Fire Brigade. I'm Dr. Carter, County General Hospital in Chicago, I'm in London on business. I've got a MVA."
"MVA?" The control person said.
"Motor Vehicle Accident." Carter said.
"Oh yes, we said RTA - Road Traffic Accident." the control person said. 'Can you tell me your location?"
Carter looked round for a road sign. "Twist Lane, opposite the job centre."
"Ok can you tell me the number of casulties?"
"One a guy, he's crashed his car into the side of a building and is trapped." Carter answered.
"Ok Dr. Carter the ambulance and fire brigade will be there with you soon."
Carter hang up and went over to Jamie. "Ok Jamie, Jamie!"
Jamie's eyes started to close and he slipped unconcious. Carter went to ther other side of the car and sat on the other seat and started giving Jamie chest compressions, and CPR. 'Come on, come on!"
"That cup of tea was lovely Maggie thank you." John Coleman said walking into the mess and handing Maggie the mug.
"Only the best for you John." Maggie said giggling.
John smiled at the watch looked at each other smirking. "What would Derek think." Sally said jokingly so Maggie could here her after John Coleman had left the room to go back to his office.
Then the bells went off a H i - Ho who was now back down in the watch room where he was supposed to be ran up to them all as they all came down the stairs and down the pole. "RTA Twist Lane, one casulty, both."
Both the pump and ALP arrived at the scene. Carter stood up outside the car on Jamie's side. Jamie was now semi - concious and Carter had put a mask over his face to help his breathing, and tied a jumper round his leg hard to try to stop the bleading, as he wasn't fully equipped.
"What's his name?" Sally said walking up to the car.
"Jamie." Carter answered.
"You're American." Sally said.
"Yeah on holiday." Carter answered.
"And you knew how to do all this and you had a breathing mask, you must be a doctor right?"
"Yeah I'm an ER doctor in Chicago, Dr. Carter, you?"
"Sally, Sally Fields."
Geoff walked over to Sally and Carter, "Are you the doctor, who was a whitness at the scene?"
'Yes," Carter answered.
"The paramedics would like to have a word with you about the young man." Geoff said to Carter.
"Okay." Carter said nodding his head, and he walked over to the paramedics.
"Hi Dr. Carter." Carter said to the paramedics.
"Hi," replied one of he paramedics.
"We would like you to go through the details of how the man was found and what you've given him drug wise." said the other paramedic.
"Okay," Carter began, "but I couldn't help him much as I don't carry all of my equipment in my bag when I go out of the country."
Meanwhile; George accompanied by Adam were getting the big saw out to cut Jamie free from the car, while Sally was keeping him company.
"Are you ok in there Jamie?" Sally asked him, sounding a bit stupid concidering the situation that he was in.
"Yeah I'm fine." Jamie replied.
Carter and the paramedics came walking up. Carter agreed to talk to the guy while the paramedics set up a gurney and all the eqipment for when he could be cut free.
"I'm ready now to cut him free." George said, who was finally dressed in his fire gear and his helmet on to protect his eyes.
"You'd better wear me hat mate." Adam said to Carter.
Carter smilied as Adam handed him his hat. Carter walked round the other side of the car an knelt by the window talking to Jamie as George began to cut the metal to set Jamie's leg free.
The noise was very loud so Carter had to shout so that Jamie could hear him. "Some of these questions may sound stupid Jamie, but you may be suffering from concusion as you may have hit your head when you crashed. Okay?"
"Yeah." Jamie answered. Carter turned round and put his thumb up at the paramedics.
"What day is today?" Carter asked Jamie.
"Friday 19Th April." Jamie answered.
"Okay good." Carter answered. "Have you got a contact telephone number a next of kin, so that you parents can be notified when you arrive at the hospital?"
Jamie slipped unconcious. "Jamie, Jamie!" Carter yelled. He had a bag full of equipment that the paramedics had given him. His brought out a small torch. "Pupils are dialated and unresponsive." He yelled out. "Come on hurry up, we've gotta get him out of here!"
A minute later... George has cut Jamie out and Carter started chest compressions. "He's concious." Carter yelled over to the paramedics. "He seems to be finding it hard to breathe, he may have a pneumothorax. We need to get him to hospital right away."
The paramedics ran over. They kept the oxygen on Jamie to help him breathe until they could get him on better equipment at the hospital. They quickly attended to his leg and wrapped it tight so that he would loose to much blood and put it in a splint to keep it secure until they got him to the hospital as it was broken. They lifted him onto the gurney and wheeled it to the ambulance.
"You did great." Coleman said to Carter.
"Thanks." Carter said. "I definatly wasn't expecting to put my medical knowledge into any use on my vacation."
"Hey mate, aren't you coming?" The paramedic called out to Carter. "We could do with some help."
"Okay then, only if you give me directions to my hotel after." Carter said laughing.
"I'd have to think about that one," said one of the paramedics joking with him. "Yeah of course, come on we've go to get him to the A&E."
The ambulance quickly zoomed off with the sirens on full, and the blue watch watched it quickly disappear into the distance.
