Everyone Needs Protection

They say with great power comes with great responsibility. That's a no-brainer. However, how simple that may be people still can't grasp the concept. Power is also a word that can mean many things. It can mean money, superpowers, physical power or even power of the mind. No matter the power, there is always a risk when the said power is used too much. Enter the Sons of Ipswich. It is no secret that the four Sons have powers but with their powers come a deadly circumstance. If they use their powers too much after they ascend, they will die. Their power is supplied by their life. Wouldn't it seem as if boys like them would need some protection? Enter the Protectors. The Protectors were four families, unrelated, given immense powers and assigned a family in Ipswich to protect from any dangers. The four families assigned to the Garwins, Danvers, Parrys, and the Simms were the Walshs, Olsons, Regans and the Hills. The powers of both families have been passed down for generations, all the way down to the current high schoolers of each respective family.

Present Day

School was right around the corner and everyone knew what that meant: a party at the Dells. Which meant that the Sons were going to be out and the open. "Yeah, I know Heather. Everyone is going to be there. You guys coming over or not? Alright. See you all in a few." I hung up and tossed my phone on my bed. Shortly after I heard the doorbell and rushed downstairs to get it. I opened the door and a huge smile crawled across my face. "Evening, ladies. Come on in."

"Anna, you know it starts soon why aren't you ready?"

"You call what you're wearing ready? Please. Come on upstairs. New shipment in this afternoon." I watched the faces of three teenage girls light up at the mention of a new shipment. My parents were very wealthy people, especially my mother. Walsh was a very well known name and Spencer High School never let me forget it. My mother was a very successful fashion designer while my father was a very successful lawyer. The four of us ran to my den and I watched my friends take off for the boxes. I laughed at my friends' reaction, walking back to my bathroom to fix my hair. I was no girly girl but I did pay attention to the way I looked, kind of like those guys who looked underachievers on purpose. My friends soon had outfits and they came running in to show me. My friend Mikayla Olson had a bright blue wrap top with a pair of black shorts and a grey shawl to accent her grey eyes. "Nice choice Kay."

"Your mom's stuff is great. I don't think there is anything in my closet that doesn't have her name on the label."

I laughed. "Thanks. I'll tell her you said that." Mikayla walked away and my other friend Heidi Regan stepped forward. She had a bright red tube top and a sequin banded black skirt, accenting it with a lace shrug.

"Anna, while you're telling your mom that can you also tell her that I love her?"

"This will only be the hundredth time this week. But I will tell her anyway." I shook my head as Heidi walked away and my other friend Claire Hill replaced her in front of me. "Where did you find that, Claire?"

"Just found it. Do you like it, Anna?" She was wearing a knee length sundress that was covered in a paisley print in a multitude of colors. Claire was our resident flower child and the dress suited her to a tee. "So what are you wearing, Anna?"

"Anything that will make Caleb drool."

"Shut up Heidi. I'm not interested in Caleb and he isn't interested in me."

"Heidi has a point. Every time there is a party in the Dells you two seem to gravitate to each other." I rolled my eyes and walked into my closet. I picked out a pair of black skinnys, a purple tank top and a black shawl vest.

"Told you she'd come out in anything Caleb would drool over." I threw a pillow at Heidi hoping to shut her up.

"Can it, Regan. Look, I value my appearance to an extent. Not the extent you do but I value it."

"That why you can see your stomach?" Damn, she got me.

"Fine. Tonight, I'm trying to impress Caleb. Knowing my luck, Reid will bite instead of Caleb. Or even worse, Abbott. Creeper." There was a collective shudder in the room because everyone despised Abbott. "You guys need shoes or anything?" Everyone nodded and followed me back to the back room. Heidi picked out wedges, forgetting the fact that the Dells were completely sand but she was always fashion over function. Claire chose gladiator sandals while Mikayla opted for blue and black flats. I grabbed a pair of purple metallic converse and we all headed back to my room. About five minutes later, we all left through my front doors. We piled into my Jeep and headed down to the Dells. Once we arrived, we all hopped out of my Jeep and started walking towards the party.

"They here yet, Anna?"

"Just about." I listened closely, smirking as we got closer. "Jumping off the cliff. Boys always like to drop in and make an entrance."

"That's our boys and we love them all."

"Don't we, Claire?"
