Crossover warning: I've decided to cross Ranma and Evangelion. You'll wonder why some characters are acting very out of characterish. Please just bare with me while I weave a story.
Timeline note: I'll sort of be following the timeline in Evangelion until near the end. This time, instead of everything coming to an end, a whole new set of angels have appeared to plague the world. Events in Ranma take place after the end of volume 38.
C&C Welcome, flames are welcome too. I get a kick out of them.
Prologue
"Ranma!"
"Stay back! This guy's different."
Ranma was getting desperate; this opponent wasn't like any he'd ever fought before. This guy hadn't been like his normal opponents. He remained cold and unresponsive to Ranma's taunts and jibes. Ranma was beaten badly and could barely summon the strength to stand again.
The man refused to give a name during the challenge, partly because Ranma accepted the challenge as soon as it was issued instead of listening. "You should have refused boy."
"I never refuse a challenge."
"Then you'll die." The man had his hand raised and a swirling blue orb came into existence inside his palm. "Any last requests?" All Ranma could do was stare up at the man's hand as if it was the end of the world before glancing sideways towards Akane. The man stopped suddenly, "Oh, don't wish to leave her behind?" The look in Ranma's eyes promised a quick end to everything if Akane was hurt. "Oh, so the boy thinks he has it in him to hurt me?" The man's tone was mocking everything Ranma ever stood for.
"You'll." Ranma pushed up with his arms slowly wobbling to his feet. "Never." He pulled his hands together pointed towards the man. "Touch." His battle aura flared to life glowing a deep blue. Small arcs of lightning crackled across his form. The cement beneath and around his feet started to crumble as the power grew. "Her." His aura seemed to suddenly fade as it was pulled between his hands as a sparkling blue ball. Ranma's mind clouded over in rage and fury as he pushed his hands forward towards the man releasing his pent up energy in a sudden blast. The world for everybody in the area went white for a moment and it seemed as if everything had come to an end.
Ranma was in bad condition. He was battered and his chi was severely depleted. The hospital had no clue what to do with him right now. Dr. Tofu was baffled as to who could do this to Ranma but decided to stay quiet about his true findings. He knew Ranma wouldn't likely survive the night like this. He shook his head silently, "Ranma... I don't know how you can always manage to get yourself into these situations, but I can't let you die on me. Not now, after all this." Tofu let the room fall back into silence as he left to find an alternative.
Tofu wasn't accustomed to lying to people, but for their own sakes he had to now. "Ranma's just been through a tough fight. He needs some rest before he'll recover. I'd like to keep him here in case any complications arise." He looked around at the assembled people. "You all look like you could use some rest too. Let's all go home for the night." Everybody was reluctant to leave but they were all eventually coaxed into leaving except Akane. "He'll be fine Akane. Just go home and get some rest. It simply won't do for him to see you like this."
She nodded slowly, "Your right but will he be fine?"
Tofu hesitated for a second but Akane didn't notice, "He'll be fine in the morning."
She smiled slightly, "I'll be back in the morning then." Akane left that night unaware of the true extent of Ranma's injuries.
Tofu slowly let out the breath he'd been holding, "Kenji isn't going to like this." He pulled the phone to his ear and started dialing a long series of numbers.
The other end began to ring. It was answered on the second ring. "Rotubungi here."
"Kenji, it's Tofu. Ranma's in bad condition. He won't be able to take part in the project at this rate."
"That won't do at all. Are you sure there is no chance of survival?"
"He's in bad condition. His body could repair itself given time, but the rest would be long dead by that time."
"I have an idea then. I'll be there in a few hours." The phone clicked and Tofu only heard a dial tone.
"Let's hope this works then." He put the phone back on the cradle. Ranma and Akane were supposed to be instrumental to the survival of mankind. He only hoped that the project could continue without their child.
Tokyo International Airport was busy even in the middle of the night with businessmen running from place to place desperately trying to make their flights. Dr. Rotubungi stepped into the airport terminal carrying only a single piece of luggage. He nudged his glasses a bit higher on the bridge of his nose and started his walk towards the exit. He'd arranged for a driver to meet him here and take him to the hospital where most of the equipment should be in place already. He only hoped it wasn't too late already. The car was waiting like it should be. The doctor climbed into the back, "To the hospital in Nerima ward, get there as quickly as possible." The driver pulled away from the airport and sped off into the night.
Kenji Rotubungi wasn't a very well known doctor. He'd spent many of his professional years exploring the human body and genome. In his own circle, he was well regarded as somewhat of a quack for his beliefs that the human genome contained the blueprints for the end of all existence. As Kenji sat back in the limo staring outward as Tokyo passed by in a glimmer of lights, his hand almost unconsciously came up to his face. Due to an earlier accident, the hand was covered in a white glove. He quickly brushed a locke of unruly brown hair out of his face. He'd had little sleep before the call came through waking him from slumber. His wife didn't say anything or try to answer the private phone at the side of his bed. She merely pushed him out of bed. He sighed softly as he again smoothed a wrinkle from his business suit. He stared at his reflection in the window as the lights outside began to dim. The weary face of a middle aged man that had dedicated his life purely to one goal stared back. His grey eyes stared back with sadness over days lost and years wasted for nothing.
Tofu was normally a very patient man but the night was starting to wear down even his patience. Kenji was late and Ranma was fading fast. "Where is that man?"
"No need to talk about me like I'm not here." Tofu jumped slightly, "You're looking good Tofu." Kenji was standing a little further down the hall as if he'd just detached himself from the shadows. He had a smirk on his face while addressing Tofu.
"Enough of the pleasantries, Ranma is fading fast."
Kenji chuckled dryly, "As long as all the equipment is here, it'll be fine." He headed towards the door until Tofu's hand on his arm stopped him.
"Make sure he lives."
"Oh, he'll live. Might not like how things turn out though. He won't be a part of the project like originally planned." He stepped through the door.
Tofu followed him and closed the door, "What do you mean?"
"It is impossible at this point for Ranma and Akane to be the parents to the first child unless you have a more detestable way of managing that." Tofu couldn't help but shiver at the only alternative to keeping to the original plan. "I thought so. Now then, we'll put Ranma in stasis until his body has been fully prepared and the ordeal starts."
"What about Akane? She'll be heartbroken."
"She'll move on..." He paused to let the cold smirk slip for a moment. "But imagine what he'll be going through. I wish we didn't need him, but we do."
"You're right. We'll have to change the plans a little. Are you sure your son can handle all this?"
"I've raised him for this sole purpose. He even knows his full role. Gendo will know what to do." Kenji leaned over the monitor beside Ranma's bed, "He'll survive."
"Make sure he does." A nurse was starting to bring in equipment.
"He'll be alive, but I can't guarantee he'll like it."
"You already said that..."
"I know, but humanity is depending on him."
"It is sad that it's all come to this."
Kenji pushed some hair away from Ranma's forehead, "It is sad, but must be done." He turned towards the nurse, "That'll be enough, leave now so I can begin." He handed a card to the nurse. "Be sure to use this in good health and remember that you didn't see a thing here." She pocketed the card and turned to leave. Kenji stopped her at the door, "And if anybody asks. We had to move him to a different hospital where he died..." The nurse nodded and left.
"The family will be heartbroken." Tofu was uneasy at best with this solution.
"They'll move on. Now you'd better leave too. Can't have you seeing this." Tofu left in silence. Kenji turned towards the equipment hoping Ranma wouldn't be thrown off too much by being in a different time and place. "By the time you wake up Ranma, you'll be in a different world. My son will probably be the first person you see."
