Prologue

Ben Holiday passed the hall with his son-in-law Thom, the ruler of one of the lands in the Greensward. His wife Willow watched him pace, the young man also watched him, worry and fear in his eyes.

"Please sit dear you are making are son in law nervous." Ben looked at his wife, her slender form wrapped in a white dress and her green hair pulled back allowing full view into her emerald eyes. Her child like features smiled up at him and he nodded and sat next to her kissing her gently.

"Sorry I am just nervous." She smiled.

"An how do you think Thom feel, it is his wife after all." Ben nodded and looked at the young man, his long black hair hung down to hide his eyes, but though the mans eyes where hidden from view the young mans body said it all. He was ridged and is left leg twitch up and down his heel never touching the ground as he waited nervously.

"Don't worry son, she will be fine." Thom looked up a small worn smile played over his lips then he looked away quickly his eyes fixing on the door as a small cry came from the room. The young man was up on his feet and moving before the door even opened. It opened right before he made it to the door. Ben Holiday and Willow right behind him as the mid wife stepped into view a small smile on her face.

"Its a girl." Ben heard Abernathy give a small woof of joy and saw the old wizard Questor smile. Ben smiled down at Willow at the news.

"A granddaughter." He beamed a smile at her and she smiled and nodded back. Thom broke the silence.

"Can I see my wife now." His thick accent filling his voice and the mid wife nodded and stepped aside for the young man. He rushed in and made a v line for his wife's bed. She smiled at him holding a small bundle in her arms. Mistaya smiled up at her husband. Her emerald eyes shimmering as she beheld him.

"A daughter, we have a daughter." The young lord nodded and Ben and Willow waited at the door with the mage and court scribe waiting to be let threw to see the young mother. The couple had married two years after they had meet, when she was 17 year of age, well not really that old as she aged differently than most girls but that was the age that her father figured she was. When Thom had courted her all those years Ben had smiled upon it. Andjen Thomlinson , as that was Thom's full name had been a true friend to the throne of Landover. Proving time and time again to be a good man and some one in which Ben could trust, so when the boy had asked fro his daughters hand in marriage at the age of 18 he had told the boy that he could if his daughter accepted, seeing as it was her choice.

She had said yes and moved to the Greensward that day, they married a week later and now two years later at the age of 20 and 19 the had their first child. Ben felt it had been a bit to quick but the two where every bit in love as he was with his own wife Willow. He smiled as he stepped forward.

"What will you name her?" Her mother smiled gently and looked at her husband who nodded.

"Raven Anne Thomlinson." She smiled at her father, the middle name made small tears well up in his eyes.

"A very pretty name." His daughter smiled and nodded to him and Willow gently squeezed his hand and smiled to him as well. Thom's reached forward.

"May I hold her." Mistaya laughed and held the child out to him. Thom took her and looked down at his daughter his eyes softening as a small pair of emerald green eyes stared back at him, a small tuft of black hair on the his daughters head, he smiled and kissed her forehead.

The court scribe and court wizard had made there way in the room and now looked down at the little girl and both smiled. The little girl grinned a toothless grin and let out a wheeze like giggle.

Five years later a 10 year old Raven laughed as she ran threw the indoor garden of Sterling Silver. Her long black hair whipping behind her as she laughed, the young girl was playing with her grandmother. The once fairy Willow laughed and pulled her daughter into a hug as her husband watch her and his granddaughter. He smiled himself his thoughts turning to the business of the witch Night Shade had been seen, returned to the world from out of the blue, as if she had never left. What was he to do about her. He sighed as he thought aloud to himself.

"I am getting to old for this." The king sat back, he was older than her felt that much was true, the magic of Landover made all age slower, but his age was slowly catching up to him, it was close to hand over his throne to his daughter, and son-in- law. He smiled at the thought, his daughter would make a great queen and Thom would be a great King, maybe even better than Holiday. He smiled at that thought, he could only hope that they did a better job than he himself. He stood slowly at his wifes call and walked over to her and his granddaughter. The little girls eyes shimmered with excitement, though she had grown fast like her mother and had was mental mature as well, she didn't act the same.

"Grandpa, come play with us?" He smiled, she was so like Mistaya and yet so different, he thought this might be the fact the little girl was also like her father Thom, a smiling youth that always was ready to have a little fun.

"What are you playing?" She smiled and jumped with joy.

"Hide-n-seek." Ben nodded.

"Okay, am I it?" She nodded and ran pulling her grandmother with her.

"Count to 100." he nodded and turned counting out loud. The door to the garden closed. He truned, Parsnip smiled at him from where he had been siting.

"Lets go find my granddaughter and Wife shale we." The kobold nodded and the king and his guard walked slowly from the garden.

Night Shade hissed at the state of her Fallows, what had happened in her time she was gone, then she smelled the burnt wood, Strabo. She hissed.

"You will pay for this dragon, just like Holiday, I will make you pay." She walked slowly to the clearing in the middle of the Fallows and looked at her once beautiful dwelling, now nothing more than a pile of ash. She growled and stamped her foot in furry and then swung her hands and began to work her magic. Slowly the house began to remake itself the ash popping to life in the form of wood and other objects that had been burnt. Night Shade sighed after it was all done, she need to rest and she walked into her home and slumped into the bed on the wall. Her long dark hair streaked with white hide her now close eyes but did not hide her ageless face, it was still smooth and beautiful to look upon. She drifted slowly into sleep, but was snapped out of it as she felt some thing try to move threw the fairy mist and into her land.

On her feet in a instant she moved to where the rift was being made, some thing was going to come out here and she planned on being there to meet it.

Christian son of Gleanveil the fair, jumped back as the demon's sword snickered at him, the blade passed a inch in front of his face. The 11 year old growled, no fear in his features or in his heart, only anger, these demon's where being controlled by his older brother, Drak, who want to the throne, though it was his other brother Boaris to hold, he growled as he swung the flaming sword, Wrymslayer in a arc cleaving the demon in half as he did. Spinning he turned to find his brother Boaris set upon by three green scaled demons.

"Brother!" He yelled and stepped forward. His brother locked eyes with him and shook his head then yelled.

"Shadowman get my little brother from here, take him to the place of are mother." The dark skinned man appeared his pure black eyes shown with fierce determination as he pulled his charge away from the battle.

"Let me go Shadowman, I must save my brother." The man shook his head and answer his voice deep and rich.

"No young master, it is to late you brother has one and Boaris know this, now come I must take you from here." Christian pulled at the arm, but could not free himself, he thought about cutting the arm of the Shadowman's off, but could not bring himself to do it to a friend. He slide the two handed flaming sword back into the sheath on his back a look of defeat on his face.

"Open, to me way of the mist, open to me, the Shadowman commands." A ripple pulsed threw the air and The shadow man pulled the young boy threw the fairy mist his hand closed tightly around the boys are as not to lose him in the mist. And thus the prince of the land of Rose passed into Landover, his knew home as Rose fell and became known as the Land of Thorn.
