Disclaimer: Well Christmas is coming so you never know... But currently I do not own PTTR
I was thinking back and re-watched Season 3, Episode 10 'Out Of The Comfort Zone' and this came into my head. Except when I wrote it, it came out much shorter than I imagined.
NOTE: The words featured in Italics are the actual lines said on the episode, just as an insight.
He'd always felt welcomed in their home. He'd always felt comfortable and at ease when talking to the Rafter family. Okay, in the beginning he had his occasional nervous point due to his relationship with Rachel.
But there was that moment that he really felt like a part of the 'clan'. Sure, he might not be married to their Rafter daughter. But what was a piece of paper?
Rachel: What are you doing?
Julie: Don't look at me; Jake insisted.
Jake: I am making lasagne. With béchamel sauce.
Rachel: Oh, made with real béchamel? [Julie laughs]
Jake: No... Butter, flour, milk, salt, parmesan cheese. And a pinch of nutmeg.
Jake: I hope you're hungry.
Rachel: Suspicious might be a better word for it. [Jake scoffs]
Julie: Oh suspicious?
Rachel: Yeah, I'm just intrigued by this newfound 'domesticity' of Jake's.
Julie: Oh leave him alone. I think he's doing a great job.
Jake: Thanks Jules.
It may have been just lasagne, but he was at home. He was freely cooking in their kitchen, on such a 'family' orientated meal.
It was at that moment that he felt like he truly belonged. How he could feel like he could just enter the house, without feeling awkward for walking thorough someone else's home without them.
In amongst the immediate Rafters; Dave, Julie, Rachel, Ben, Nathan and Ruby.
In amongst the extended Rafters; Ted and Melissa.
And in amongst the technically-unrelated Rafters; Carbo.
In that space of the large Rafter clan. A place he belonged. As one of them.
Anyway, so it's a pointless little one shot, but I'd appreciate the reviews anyway. Thanks for reading!
