Title: Metal Mouth
Summary: Oneshot! After being informed that she needed reading glasses, now Stephanie gets some more bad news. First Full House fic, review please!
Author's Note: Takes place a little after the episode "Stephanie Gets Framed;" however, Jesse and Becky have already gotten married and are on their honeymoon so they won't be present in this fic.
Early Sunday afternoon at the Tanner house; Danny comes strolling through the front door with four year old Michelle in tow and a disappointed-looking Stephanie trudging behind them. DJ had gone on a camping trip with Kimmy Gibbler and her family for the weekend, while Joey was having a "Father-Son Day" with his dad.
"Worst dentist appointment ever," she said slowly, emphasizing each word as she walked over and plopped herself down in a chair.
"Steph, it's not that bad. A lot of kids have braces now a day," said Danny trying to cheer her up.
"Doesn't mean I have to be one of them," Stephanie complained, "I don't even need them, my teeth are perfect. See," she smiled at her dad.
"The dentist didn't say you needed them because your teeth weren't perfect, he said you needed them to fix your overbite," Danny explained.
"Daddy, do I have an overbite," asked Michelle?
"I'm not sure sweetie, it's too soon to tell," said Danny to his youngest daughter. Then turned back to Stephanie and said, "I'm going to make your appointment for the orthodontist hopefully tomorrow afternoon because I'm busy the rest of the week with meetings."
"Fine," Steph mumbled under her breath.
Danny patted her on the head and soothed her, "You'll be fine. They'll only be on for two years, tops."
"Daddy, can I go swimming," asked Michelle looking up at him with her big and pleading, blue eyes?
Danny got down to her level and replied, "Sure, why don't you go get your swimsuit on and after I make Steph's appointment I'll fill up your pool."
"Yay," exclaimed Michelle as she ran upstairs!
A little while later, out in the backyard, Michelle was in her pool playing Marco-Polo with her imaginary friend Glen while Danny sat in a lawn chair reading Speed Cleaning.
"I got you, Glen," Michelle laughed as she "tagged" her imaginary friend. Danny looked over from his book and chuckled to himself.
Just then the gate opened up and DJ walked through, carrying her duffel bag over her shoulder she greeted her sister and dad, "I'm home."
"DJ," Michelle ran out of her pool and jumped into her sister's arms!
"Hi Michelle, how are you," she asked her baby sister?
"I'm good," Michelle gave DJ a kiss on the cheek, "I missed you."
"I missed you too," after giving each other one more hug, DJ sets her down, Michelle takes her by the hand and they walked over to where Danny was seated, then Michelle goes back to playing in her pool.
"Hey dad,"
"Hey Deej," Danny dog-eared his place in his book, got up and gave DJ a one-armed hug, "How was your trip?"
"It was fun," she answered. "Well, I'm glad you had fun," he gives her another one-armed hug, "and I'm glad you're home now."
"I'm glad I'm home too," said DJ.
Stephanie then comes out, "Hey dad what's for din-"she stops mid-sentence, smiled and exclaimed, "DJ! You're home," she goes to give her eldest sister a hug!
"Yes I am, how're you Squirt," DJ asked Steph?
"Angry," she said truthfully.
"Well, love you too," DJ joked.
"Not to you," Stephanie looked to her dad and Michelle, then back at DJ, "The dentist told me I need to get braces."
"Is that all? That's not so bad," she said reassuringly.
"Yeah sure, that's what they all say," the girls giggled at each other then hugged.
"Speaking of which Steph, your appointment is tomorrow at noon, so I'll just come get you out of school early and we'll head over from there," Danny explained.
"Okay," Stephanie then asked her dad, "Anyways, what I was going to ask before I knew DJ was home, what's for dinner?"
"Cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries," replied Danny.
"Yes," all three girls exclaimed!
Later that night, after dinner, DJ and Steph were washing and drying dishes; Danny was putting the clean dishes away while Michelle, who had helped load the dishwasher, was now upstairs getting ready for bed.
When Joey comes home, he walked in through the kitchen door and greeted, "Hey everybody!"
"Hey Joey," The girls and Danny greeted back in unison.
"How was your Father-Son Day," asked Danny?
"It was great, my dad and I really hit it off when we went down to Fisherman's Warf," Joey explained, then asked, "How's everything and everybody here?"
"Good, good," Danny said, and then announced, "Steph has to get braces."
"Oh, sorry to hear that, Steph, but it won't be that bad,"
"Yeah, that's what I've heard," Stephanie gave a sideways glare at Danny.
Michelle then comes running down the stairs wearing white Sesame Street pajama leggings with the character's heads scattered around and an aqua blue Little Mermaid Aerial pajama top, her strawberry blonde hair flowing freely down her back.
"Joey," Michelle ran and jumped into his arms!
"Hey Michelle, are you ready for your nightly bedtime jokes," he asked her?
"Oh yeah,"
"Okay, did you go potty first and brush your teeth?"
"Yes I did," Michelle nodded her head.
"Alright, let's go up to your room then. First say goodnight to your dad and sisters."
He sets Michelle down to go give Danny, DJ and Stephanie each a goodnight hug and kiss, then leapt onto Joey's back for a piggy back ride up to her room.
"Those two are just about as close as Jesse is with her," DJ pointed out.
"Yes they are," Danny and Steph agreed.
The next day, at the Orthodontist's office in the waiting room where Steph sat reading an outdated copy of Teen Vogue magazine, Danny reading Time magazine, Michelle occupied herself with the toys in the corner.
The door opened up and the secretary comes out with a clipboard, she called out, "Stephanie Tanner."
Steph looked up from her magazine, put it aside, smiled at her dad and followed the lady into the next room.
"Just step into this room, Dr. Randall will be with you in a moment, he has to take some x-rays first," The secretary explained to Steph has she led her to the first door on the right and put the clipboard down on the counter.
"Okay," Stephanie said taking a seat in the chair.
Dr. Randall entered, grabbed the clipboard and scanned it over as he goes and takes a seat in the other chair. He greeted, "Hello Stephanie."
"Hi,"
"Do you go by Steph? Or just Stephanie," asked Dr. Randall looking up from the clipboard.
"Steph is fine,"
"Okay," Dr. Randall looked back at the clipboard for a moment, then put it down and explained the procedure, "well, Steph, before we get the braces on I'm going to do a couple x-rays around your head and mouth area, then we'll get your dad in here and talk with him for a little bit and then we can put your braces in."
"Alright," Steph nodded as she fiddled with her thumbs.
About an hour and a half later, Stephanie walked out to the waiting room and over to Danny who was reading Go, Dog, Go to Michelle.
"Are you ready to go," she asked impatiently?
Danny and Michelle looked up at her; Danny asked her, "Can we see the braces?"
Steph smiled, showing off her braces with red and pink color bands around the brackets.
"Cute," complimented Danny, he placed the book on the side table, got up to go make the first payment for the braces, then goes back to take Michelle's hand and the three walk out to the car.
Back at the Tanner house, in the kitchen where Joey and DJ were seated at the table; Joey was helping DJ with her math homework when Danny, Michelle and Stephanie enter through the back door.
"Hey you guys," Danny and Steph greeted in unison.
"Hi DJ, hi Joey," Michelle greeted going to sit down on Joey's lap.
"Hey everybody," Joey greeted for the two of them.
"Let's see those braces," DJ asked Steph, looking up from her textbook?
Stephanie gave a sigh, and then smiled big enough so they could the braces.
"They look great," DJ complimented.
"Yeah, I don't know why you were so worried," said Joey.
"Thanks you guys," Steph said, slurring her S's. She gives her dad a hug, then goes and gives DJ and Joey one too, got down to Michelle's level-who still sat on Joey's lap-and asked her, "How about you and I go up to your room and play Monopoly Junior?"
"Okay," exclaimed Michelle, as she jumped off Joey's lap, grabbed Steph's hand and dragged her upstairs!
"Deej, would you mind taking your homework upstairs to your room, I just want to talk to Joey alone," Danny asked DJ?
"Is he in trouble? Are you going to kick him out," DJ asked worriedly?
"No and no, of course not, I just want to talk to him, just us adults," explained Danny.
"Oh, okay, sure," DJ gathered her school work and walked upstairs to her room.
Danny takes his seat where DJ was, looked over at Joey and asked, "So how're things?"
"Things are good," replied Joey, "So what'd you want to talk about?"
"I wanted to ask you, if you knew anybody that could co-host with me on Wake up San Francisco," asked Danny?
"Uh, yeah, of course, me," Joey exclaimed pointing at himself!
"Are you sure, I don't want to pressure you," asked Danny.
"Sure I'm sure; my comedy career is a little slow so this would be a perfect opportunity for me,"
"Great, thanks Joey, we leave tomorrow at seven in the morning," he mentioned.
"Alright," Joey paused for a moment, "well, should we go watch the last few innings of the Giants game?"
"Absolutely," Danny and Joey left the table and headed into the living room.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed it. Towards the end I kind of got writer's block, so to wrap it up I just had a little moment with Danny and Joey chatting. Any advice for future fics is greatly appreciated, thank you!
