chapter one

Embry Call and his friend Jared Bronson were taking a walk through the woods. Jared stopped when he heard what sounded like a baby cooing in the bushes. "Hey Em... do you hear that?"

Embry listened to the sound and nodded.

"Yeah I do. And it's coming from there." He pointed to the bushes.

"What if it's a wild animal? Should we phase and attack?"

"And what if it's not? Come on let's have a look." They peered through the bushes and their eyes widened at what they saw. A baby boy with red hair and beautiful sea green eyes with a white blanket wrapped around him and their was a note on it too.

"Is that... a baby?"

"Uh huh..."

"Hey he's got a note."

Jared took off the note and started reading it. "This baby's name is Gaara Sabaku, raise him as if he were your own, tell him you love him and care for him everyday."

"Aww poor little guy come here." Embry picked him up and his heart melted when Gaara yawned and layed his head against his chest.

"Let's take him to Sam and Emily's."

"Good idea."

Sam was helping Emily do the dishes when they heard a knock on the door. "I'll get it." Emily went over to the door and opened it. "Oh hi Embry, hi Jared." She smiled when she saw Gaara. "Oh? And who do we have here?"

"His name's Gaara Sabaku we found him in the bushes. Poor little guy must've been their for a few days. I'm surprised no animals got to him or anything."

"Awww poor dear." Embry handed him to her and Sam came over. "Sam we have to take care of him he has no one else." Sam nodded.

"Okay."

"We also found this note too."

Sam read the note. He smiled and gently rubbed Gaara's head. "We'll take care of ya from now on."

Gaara was still asleep sucking his thumb.

Jared looked at his watch. "Oh crap I was supposed to meet Kim at the movies five minutes ago man she's gonna kill me." Embry rolled his eyes.

"She's got you wrapped around your finger dude."

"Hey at least I have a girlfriend."

"Shut up."

"Make me." Sam glared at them.

"Okay guys enough."

"Sorry. Later!" He ran out.

Embry turned to Emily. "Hey is it okay if I help take care of Gaara? I've got nothing better to do."

As soon as Embry said that Gaara woke up and stretched his arms toward Embry.

"Sure Em."

Emily handed Gaara to Embry. When Embry smiled at Gaara he could've sworn that Gaara smiled back at him.
