A whimper of pain woke her in the night.

With a hand pressed hard upon her chest,

Her other held the sheet around her lest

Her bare skin be exposed in the moonlight.

She toed softly with her drape gripped tight

To find him kneeling in the same undress,

His hands furious in his hair without rest,

His anguish, no one could possibly write.

She whispers softly, "What torments you so?"

With vacant gaze, he stares at her bleakly.

Undeterred, around his hand does hers bend.

"There is so much that you can never know,

To see a great love grow old and weakly,

And to know that forever always ends."

Author's Note: We started studying sonnets in my British Literature class today and one of our assignments is to write our own. This is mine. This was inspired by one of my paintings, but I also wrote it with the Doctor and Rose in mind, so I figured I would post it here. =)
