Nikko's POV

It had been a long time since I'd seen her face, way too long, so you could understand that I was pretty excited. Courtney… She has such a beautiful name. Sighing, I parked my black BMW in the Community Center parking lot. This was where Spectacular was performing, I literally couldn't wait as I walked up into the crowd. Suddenly the show started.

Courtney stepped out onto the stage. She looked so dazzling in the light. I was lost in her eyes when a guy a little shorter than me but a little taller than Courtney entered the stage. I narrowed my eyes, he looked so familiar but I couldn't quite place a finger on who he was. Wait a second, I thought. Isn't that Royce Du Lac?

Courtney's POV

Everything was going as planned. Better, even. I grabbed the microphone and sang, "I need you by side, baby!"

"Day and night," Royce sang, he has such a great voice! Maybe even better than my ex, Nikko's.

As my eyes scanned the crowd, I noticed a familiar figure standing there. I recognized him immediately, Nikko!

What the heck? He runs off to Montana for six months, and just… just comes back? I scrunched my face up, and flashed him a frown. After I was done singing and it was Royce's part, I mouthed, what are you doing here?

He cupped his ear, the universal signal for, "What?" I scowled and repeated the mouth movements. Some people stared at my face like, "Why isn't she smiling?" Quickly I turned my frown upside down, but in a fake way.

If he thinks he can just march up here and pretend everything's okay, he's wrong. I'll always remember the fight we had before he moved to Montana. Plus, I've moved on. You got it, Royce Du Lac was my new beau.

"I'm yours," Royce hummed and gave me a look like, Courtney! Why aren't you singing?

Oops. Stupid Nikko, he's making me forget my lines! I thought bitterly.

Finally the performance was over, and everybody clapped and cheered. I held Royce's hand and we bowed. A bouquet was thrust at our feet. Royce and I exchanged smiles.

We all hurried backstage, and Janet grinned.

"Courtney, you did awesome!" Janet exclaimed, and patted me on the back.

Caspian high-fived me. "Yeah, Janet's right! Thanks for letting me be in the male chorus," he thanked.

Tajid started talking to Caspian and they rushed off. Royce smoothed his hair, and Janet watched me with wide eyes.

"Did you see Nikko–" she started.

"Alexander?" I finished, then added, "Yeah, I did."

Royce turned around to face us with an odd expression, "What? That dude's here?" He wrapped his arms around my waist protectively. "If he tries to…"

I laughed and kissed my boyfriend's cheek reassuringly. "He won't, trust me. And if he does… well, I certainly won't accept!"
