"Okay, everybody! Let's get started. What song choices do we have, Robin?" I asked.
Robin read off the list of choices, and Nyssa pointed out the ones she liked.
"Let's try them all, then decide," Royce suggested. I looped my arm through Royce's.
Nikko frowned disapprovingly. "How about we let Courtney choose? Or have a vote? It takes up less time that way."
"We didn't ask for your opinion," I spat stiffly. I was still really hurt – and not about to forgive – from the night before he left, we had this massive fight.
"Too bad," Nikko answered, annoyed, it looked like he wasn't Mr. Nice Guy anymore. Whatever.
I tucked some hair behind my ear, trying really hard not to explode. "You know what?" I glared at him. "I'm the leader. I decide! Got it?"
Nikko folded his arms. He did look cute mad. Ew, did I just say that out loud? "Remember when we all just chilled? I miss those days."
I ignored him.
"All right, ready?" Royce shouted. Royce turned on the first song in the MP3 mix, and Emily started to play the piano. Everybody got into line and started dancing. Royce and I walked through the rows and corrected people. This was how Spectacular ran these days. Just like the days before Nikko Alexander ever came.
I made my way over to the drums and started hitting them hard. I could hear Courtney and Royce in the background.
Royce: "If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman?"
Courtney: "If I'm alive and well, will you be there to hold my hand?"
Royce: "I'll keep you by my side and my superhuman might—"
I slammed the drums, and watched everybody else. Nikko was standing there like he didn't know what to do.
Courtney put her hand on her hips. "Go, dance!" she waved Nikko along like he was a dog.
Nikko rolled his eyes. "Please! I can sing better than this loser," he gestured towards Royce. It probably wasn't my business, but I suddenly felt protective of my big brother.
"Yeah? My brother can beat you anytime anyplace!" I yelled at him.
He glanced at me like I was some kind of pest! "Wanna bet?"
"Sure, it's on!" I snarled.
"I can speak for myself, Nyssa," Royce replied. "Bring it, rock boy."
Courtney looked flustered. "Guys!" she shouted, and both stared at her. "Thank you. Nikko, you have an amazing voice, but I'm afraid Royce is the lead singer."
Nikko frowned, Royce bit his lip, Courtney looked down, and I scowled at Nikko.
Then the bell rung. "Practice is over!" I shouted gleefully and did a small drum solo.
