Kaitou Kid roused the crowd, prompting raucous cries and cheers by his grand appearance. In an arrogant, reverberating tone, smooth words rolled off his tongue, promising a performance to all who were present.
But he was yet to give them one. Soon, however, with the snap of gloved fingers accompanied by a jeering smile at his pursuer, he let the show begin.
The thief spun in a dazzling blur, pivoting in a circle under the opulent moon. Moon rays caught his cape, alluring and silver like the foam of the ocean waves. But when he turned, he merely shook them away as a wet cat would brush off water.
A flash of white, a cloud of grey…
The magician's pursuer let out an enraged gasp as the thief emerged from the confusion holding a brilliantly vibrant star in hand.
A monocle glinted in the starlight, a winking azure glare that shielded indigo eyes. It seemed to wink at the opponent – a bristling detective – tantalizing and mocking him for his futile efforts.
Kaitou Kid spread out his arms, and declared his heist successful. Yet as he brought the star up to the heavens, there was a rainbow curtain of light, of which he shook his head in response. Kid released the star, placing it in the care of the detective with a defeated air.
The detective grasped the star, and narrowed his eyes. The bright orbs seemed to glow in the night, broken blue fragments of the sky.
The thief only laughed, brushed velvet lips across Kudou Shinichi's pale forehead, and spoke mysteriously of eternity.
A fortnight following, the thief grasped the shining sun. But he mirrored his previous actions, slipping it into the detective's hands. This time, he smiled, graced grinning lips across Shinichi's flushed cheeks, and again spoke vaguely of eternity.
A month later, the thief danced among the stars and secreted the moon. But he did not return it this time.
For there was a resounding bang! that night, ringing throughout the air in a solemn cry. Following, there was the echo of a coarse voice belonging to a serpent, smug and triumphant as a body and the celestial object crumpled to the ground.
And Kid placed a lingering kiss on the detective's lips, which were warm as his was cold. After shedding a single tear, lavender eyes were closed by a gentle hand, meeting Shinichi's sapphire ones no longer. The moon fell to the earth and dripping with scarlet, sticky tears.
And Kid nevermore spoke of eternity.
