Christmas meanings

"I still don't get it." Her voice was soft as she mumbled against the bare skin of his chest.

"You still don't get what?"

It took a while until her voice became audible again. "Christmas."

Instead of saying something he pulled her slender form on top of his body.

"What don't you get about it?"

No trace of annoyance or tease was audible as he tenderly let his fingertips caress her spine.

Ziva stayed quiet for a minute enjoying the love she felt coming in waves from the man she was currently snuggling with.

She had been so stupid to not see what was in front of her all this time... No, she of all people had gotten herself lured away from all the people she could trust and count on, to go back to a family she never could trust in the first place.

Enough scars were left to prove it on the out-and inside.

Eventually she was able to open her mouth and answer. "The tree, the lights the presents and all that jazz."

He smiled unseen by her. "I guess it comes down to this..."

He took a breath to gather his thoughts.

"Trees and presents are not important, or shouldn't be important. It used to be all about family and love. "

"Why the presents?" Ziva asked while her hand stroke tenderly over the side of his ribcage.

"To show affection, but over the years it became more and more a consumption orientated time of year." He paused for a few seconds. "It shouldn't be about the prize of whatever you decide to present someone with, it should be more about the love you give it away with."

Ziva bent down and kissed Tony's chest, she smiled against his skin while an idea for his present came to her mind. Something she knew he wanted from the beginning of their relationship but never asked for. .

She would agree to make them official and the best place would be at the annual Christmas party.

No matter what happened they would face the wrath of Gibbs and Leon together.
