Epilogue

The storm that had hit Mystic Falls was abating, but the drama that had happened in its wake was not. Stefan ran through the night carrying his limp brother in his arms, and arrived at their home. He carefully walked through the house and breathed a sigh of relief that he could enter. Stefan set Damon down onto the couch and murmured, "I'll be back, brother."

Stefan treads through the town, searching for someone for his brother to have. He decides on an elderly woman, and compels her to not be afraid.

When he arrives back at the boarding house, Damon is awake but Stefan does not let his anxiety go yet. Damon's eyes are open, but glazed. The usual sarcastic wit is gone, leaving a confused insanity behind. "Damon?" Damon's eyes float to Stefan and the woman he brought.

"Drink, brother." Stefan says, and bites her hand, letting the scent of the blood permeate the air. Damon makes a noise in the back of his throat and Stefan steps closer. "Let me take care of you now, Damon. Please. You helped me as a human, and I just want to return the favor." Stefan pushes the woman lightly on the shoulder and sits next to Damon.

Damon's dark hair is ruffled, and Stefan searches for the signs of the torture Katherine made him endure, but there are none.

Thankfully, Damon leans down slowly and takes the woman's wrist into his mouth.

Stefan smiles gratefully and walks to stand beside his brother. "That's it Damon. Don't worry, I'll take care of you now.

"Everything's going to be fine"

It's a short epilogue, but I think it's okay. For all of those readers who wanted Stefan to take care of Damon, or to rescue him, there you have it. And if you are confused about what happened – Katherine exchanged blood with Stefan and killed him, starting the vampire process. Damon said he hated Katherine and so she tortured him to insanity. Stefan wakes up, and Katherine forces Damon to drink her blood, starting his transformation. Stefan kills Katherine, and finishes his transformation. He brings Damon home and forces him to drink human blood, turning him into a vampire as well.
