Disclaimer: I don't even own the Mortal Instruments series. Title and summary come from Vanessa Carlton.
A/N: For the many people who have asked me to do another Simon/Isabelle one-shot. Well, here you go. It's kind of AU, I guess, because I doubt that City of Fallen Angels is going to be anything like this, especially after they get together (if they get together, that is). It's short, because I tried blowing this up into a big full out story and I just couldn't. So here's some shameless fluff. I also promise that I'll write a longer fic later. (And Logan Lerman for Simon, how awesome would that be? Ah, fan dream casts can only get you so far, though.)
It's one of those godawful hot days in the city when he makes up his mind to do it. "I'm going to carve our initials into that tree over there," he announces, ignoring her hysterical laughter as he gets up and marches to the nearest tree, a large oak with a thick trunk and skinny branches.
Isabelle scrambles after him, still laughing, because she actually wants to see him do it, this horrible and cliche, but still really cute and kind of sweet, romantic thing. When he gets out a pocket knife she can't help herself from saying, "When'd you start carrying that around?" Because honestly, he's a vampire, and if he needs to pull a knife on something then it's probably too late for them anyway.
"It's something that my dad gave me before he left," Simon shrugs, opening it. "He said that a man always needs one, just in case." Kind of like her whip that she somehow managed to fit into her daisy dukes even though there are hardly been any room to breathe in them anyway.
"I honestly can't believe that you're going to do this. We're probably going to get arrested for vandalism or something." He doesn't respond because he's too busy carving out an 's', his face narrowed in concentration, the tip of his tongue sticking out of his mouth.
He seems to be carving it a little bit deeper than it needs to be, but maybe it's all of that pent up vampire strength or something, she doesn't know. When he's done she can see a shaky S + I carved into the trunk of the tree. "Wait for it," he tells her, and she watches as he adds the missing 4eva. "I can always add a little heart around it too, or do you think that it'd be too much?"
While he grins at her Isabelle gets this feeling in the bottom of her stomach, a feeling that has only been given to her once or twice before Simon, but not nearly as strongly. She realizes what it is. She actually cares about him, and she thinks that he's probably the sweetest boyfriend that she's ever had, as well as maybe the most wonderful.
Honestly, she doesn't deserve it. Not at all, and it's painfully obvious to her. Simon deserves to have someone who can give him what she can't- all of themselves.
"Too much, definitely," she decides, putting her pointing fingers and thumbs into a little box and looking at the carving through it, a move that she saw on a mundane television show that she had watched with Simon.
Out of no where she jumps on him and wraps her legs around him while she kisses him, silently telling him all the things that she couldn't bear to tell him out loud.
