"What the hell is that?" Emmy asked, automatically stopping in her steps. The youngest Watchmen member (and how irritating it was, having that title, rather than being anything else; hell, even being known as the only female member would've been more tolerable but no, Laurie just had to exist) was dressed entirely in black and wore a mask that covered half her face—she honestly had no idea how Rorschach could be comfortable in a full mask.
Light was on the verge of turning to night; she and Rorschach had finally made it to the Veidt's building. His building was the largest in the city ("I'm sure he's not compensating for anything at all," Emmy had joked more than once, long after the joke had been hilarious); it loomed over everything else in a menacing way but at the moment Emmy found the thing sitting on the steps leading up to the building a bit shocking.
"Bubastis," Rorschach answered.
Emmy glanced at him. "What?"
"Veidt's pet; c'mon."
"Strange looking pet," Emmy murmured as she walked around it, staying close to Rorschach as she felt paranoid that the thing would pounce. "How can it even survive in this climate?"
"Smartest man is its owner."
"True, true," Emmy said thoughtfully. "But why'd he just leave it out here?"
Rorschach pulled out his grappling gun.
"I always hate this part," Emmy grumbled, eyeing the gun warily.
"Can always wait with pet."
"All right!" Emmy agreed quickly before the masked man could change his mind. She went over and sat a safe distance away from Bubastis.
