Werewolves have been hunted for years now, and, as the monster hunters tried to make the world safer for wizards, werewolves have taken a huge drop in numbers. They're known to be dangerous, detained only for study or in 'zoos.' So what happens when Alex Russo finds a werewolf bleeding on the lair floor?
I don't own 'Wizards of Waverly Place'
A/N Just so you know, when I think of 'werewolves' I think of a wolf with a human mind. And that's how it's going to work in this story. Just to explain some things.
Mason's head turned, ears alert and blood-stained muzzle raised out of his dinner. He heard the voices again, and smelt the monster hunters. He ran, leaving the fresh kill behind him. He'd have to find more food later.
They'd been tracking him for days now, driving him to desperate measures. He had to stay hidden. He had to stay free. He'd seen what they did to others, and the images still lay in the back of his mind, their clawed hands ready to take hold of his brain in the lonely nights.
Still, those were the thoughts that drove him on. If he was caught by these monster hunters, he'd be left chained up in a small room, with people poking him, or, even worse, left to pace a small cell while wizards watched his every move, mouths wide. He couldn't understand why the law was passed that allowed wizards to hunt werewolves to near extinction. He should be part of a protected species, not a hounded one.
His paws pads were bleeding now, their protective covering ripped off in places by the sharp stones and amount of running he'd been doing. Yet still they followed him. He couldn't escape. He tore down a street, and saw a broken window to his right. He jumped through, glass sticking in his skin and tearing at his flesh.
If the monster hunters had looked in through the window with smashed glass around it, they would have seen a bleeding wolf huddled under a table, ready to bolt, should the occasion need it. But, they were hunting a werewolf, not local vandals that may have broken into this house and so they ran on, silently promising to themselves that they wouldn't let Mason Greyback get away this time.
Alex opened her eyes slowly as the morning light cast a soft glow over her room. She stretched, and smiled. She could already smell breakfast being made, and she had a date with Dean later on. Today was looking to be a perfect day, and it had only started.
She and Dean were happier than ever, with their one year anniversary coming up. She couldn't wait until he took her out that night, and gave her the present she was expecting. She had already bought his present, and the silver chain lay in the hand-wrapped box by her bed. It had taken months of saving, and a lot of begging her parents and Justin before she finally had enough. The chain was pure silver, and she knew Dean was going to love it.
The smell of pancakes greeted her as she made her way down the staircase. She smiled at her mother as she bid her a cheery 'Good Morning honey.' Justin was at the table, nose stuck in a book, and Max was relaxing in front of the television. She smiled as she stole Justin's plate, piled high with untouched pancakes.
She was right. Today was going to be perfect. She settled on the sofa beside Max and took a bite of her pancake. She couldn't wait to see Dean at school later.
