It was a cold November morning in the small village of Aden. The sun was hidden behind a thick silver blanket of clouds; a slight breeze would often run through the dirt streets like a silent ghost. Despite the cold weather the people of Aden were outside doing their everyday chores. Children were out playing on the streets along with one of the village's pet, a chocobo, whom the children always played with. The village of Aden was smaller than any other village they knew of. It was isolated from mayor cities and other places. The popularity rounded close to 80 people. The only 'big' places in the village were the school, library and a workshop for automobiles.
Even though they didn't have all the luxuries most places had they all lived peacefully and that's what really mattered to them. Everyone would lend a hand if someone needed help. Even if Aden was isolated and hard to find they did run the risk of being taken over or being eliminated from the map since word had been spreading that some cities had broken out in war. Reason for it was unknown, even if an army would come to Aden there was nothing for them to take. There was also no way in which the people from the village could defend themselves. There were no armies, no mayor weapons and no place to go to be safe, to place close enough for the population to move to as a shelter.
As time ticked by the silver clouds got thicker indicating that at any moment they would begin to drop water to the dry land below. A Friesian mare stood next to a khaki colored house happily enjoying her meal of carrots and apples. A navy blue blanket covered her back keeping her a warm. She swung her tail on occasions seeming to enjoy the cloudy peaceful day. Once she finished her meal the Friesian lifted her head sighing and began to walk away from the khaki house towards a man that leaned against the house across the street. He held a cup in one hand while the other one was inside the pocket of his jeans. His blue eyes were focused in the liquid inside the cup while he moved the cup in a slow circular motion in order to mix the drink. Vapor was visible coming from inside the cup; most likely it was something hot. The Friesian mare stopped in front of the man and stared at him pricking her ears up in his direction huffing in order to get his attention.
"Morning Dawn," the young man greeted lifting his gaze from his cup to the tall creature in front of him. Dawn blinked in reply before she lifted her head high and turned to the right. In the distance there was the sound of someone running, something big. The blue-eyed young man furrowed his brows confused. All of a sudden a big yellow bird, though a bit smaller then Dawn ran past them leaving behind a big dust cloud. A little boy laughed loudly as he and the chocobo raced through the streets.
"Hey wait up!" two voices called, they were two boys around the age of the boy riding the chocobo. They both were following the cloud trail of dust left behind by the bird. They were running as fast as their legs would take them.
"Get going you slowpokes!" the boy on the chocobo replied giving the two whom were running on the ground a glance before he disappeared around the corner. The two boys even knowing they didn't have a chance of catching the boy and the chocobo by foot kept running after them.
"They're at it again" the young man standing in front of the Friesian sighed and finished his drink putting the cup down on the ground. Dawn turned her head back at him and moved her large head up and down in agreement with his statement.
"Drake!" a young voice called catching the Friesian's and the young man's attention. A small girl around the age of 6 stared at the young man who was known as Drake. A smile was on her face while she tried catching her breath. She giggled bringing her hands up towards Drake.
"Hey there Rosy." Drake picked the young girl up, his face lit up with a warm smile.
"Do you like my new dress Drake? Mommy made it for me!" Rosy looked down at her pink dress that was decorated with bows and ribbons of pink and purple shades. Drake smiled chuckling a bit. "It's lovely, now you look like a real princess" he commented lightly patting her on the back.
"I don't look like one" Rosy shook her head still smiling "I AM one, all I need is my prince" Rosy looked up at Drake, her eyes sparkled in excitement.
"Good luck finding one. The only place they exist is in fairytales," someone said in a rather sour and tired voice. Dawn neighed towards the voice dancing slightly where she stood. Drake glanced at the source of the voice, a young girl with brown hair stared at them. She placed a metal red box down with a sigh, parts of her arms and face where stained with what looked like oil. She had a gloomy expression painted on her face, her eyes looked tired and no shine was on them.
"They do exist!" Rosy replied crossing her arms with a pout. The brunette rose a brow "then where are they?" she asked sarcastically forcing herself not to roll her eyes. She never acted like this towards children but whenever she heard nonsense of prince's, princess's and faraway kingdoms, she couldn't help herself.
"In their kingdom duh!" Rosy replied turning to Drake.
"I think Heaven needs a happy drink," Rosy giggled brushing some of her hair to the side. Drake smiled at her, he glanced at the brunette again.
"I think she does," he replied lifting his gaze towards the young brunette, slight concern in his eyes. Heaven, the brunette's name, gave a long yawn covering her mouth with her arm instead of her filthy hand.
"Nah, what I need is sleep…and food since I'm hungry" she replied bending down picking the red metal box up. "I'll see you in a bit…going to shower" she turned and began to walk towards the khaki colored house in a rather slow walk.
"If you want I'll look for a prince for you!" Rosy called looking at Heaven as she crossed the street. Heaven stopped and turned to the little girl. "Umm not thank you" she forced a smile, afterwards she turned around and rolled her eyes. She continued walking while Dawn followed her and placed her muzzle on the pale shoulder.
"Hey girl" Heaven scratched the mare's cheek. "When I finish taking a shower, we'll go for a ride okay?" at this the Friesian pranced happily next to Heaven, causing the girl to give a tired laugh followed by a yawn.
Dawn patiently waited outside while Heaven went inside the house. She walked into her room, which was a bit dark due to the weather outside. Placing her metal box down Heaven walked towards her bed but midway she shrieked and her foot caught with a glass bottle that had been lying on the floor. With a heavy thud her body made contact with the floor.
"Ouch…my back" Heaven muttered placing her hand on her lower back while sitting back up. She looked down at her feet and spotted an empty beer bottle. With a heavy angry sigh, Heaven sat up and took a hold of the bottle which soon flew across the room and landed in the corner of the room which was were the trash can was along with other empty beet bottles, surprisingly the beer bottle didn't break. Rubbing her face causing a black mark due to her dirty hands Heaven stood up and walked to the bathroom slamming the door. Humming a random tune to herself to wash away her anger and frustration, she turned to the mirror glaring at her reflection. Her gaze eased up while her brows rose up.
"Those marks sure blend in nicely with the dark shadows under my eyes" she thought sarcastically running a finger over her oil marks on her face.
The warm water soon hit her naked skin causing her tired muscles to relax. She swore she could fall asleep at that very moment; her eyelids began to fall over her eyes. With a groan Heaven snapped her eyes open and smacked a hand on her face to keep herself awake.
Standing in her dark room Heaven threw her dirty clothes that consisted of a plain t-shirt and some shorts across the room, which landed beside the bed. She now wore a red tank top with a pink shirt under, grey shorts with a blue bandana tied around her waist over the grey shorts, black boots and a black jacket. Still humming the random tune and feeling the irritation going away, Heaven reached down under the bed getting out an old wooden box.
"Of course I'll never forget you my lucky rock" opening the box Heaven pulled out a thin brown belt that had a spherical shaped blue rock tied to it. Tying it in between the bandana and shorts around her waist she walked out of the room and out of the house.
"Alright girl, lets go" picking up the saddle that sat next to the door Heaven walked to Dawn's side. Dawn still pranced slightly making a clacking sound with her hooves every time they hit the ground her head moved up and down happily. It was a bit difficult to tie the saddle on due to Dawn's dancing and Heaven's height but once it was on the brunette moved onto placing the reins. Suddenly she heard a familiar voice and turned her gaze to spot Drake sitting on a log next to Rosy's mother, Evangeline. Rosy was sleeping in Drake's arms while he talked to her mother. From the looks of it, it was clearer than water that Drake had feelings for Eva. He always acted like a more lively man whenever he was around her. He even smiled more.
"He really needs to get some nuggets to confess doesn't he?" Heaven whispered to the Friesian with a smirk over her lips. Dawn lowered an ear staring at her. Once Heaven had mounted, after a few minutes of struggling to get onto the saddle, she turned Dawn and they began to walk. With a slight tap of her heel on Dawn's side the Friesian took off in a fast trot, a little farther and they were at a run out of the village. On occasions they would go out on a ride miles away though never too far, these rides really helped in clearing Heaven's mind. The dark clouds still loomed over; the cold wind didn't get any better. Both of them didn't mind the cold breeze and the dark clouds at all. As Heaven and Dawn ran up a hill Dawn's dark curly mane blew more in the wind, Heaven spread her arms out stretching letting the wind hit her. They soon stopped on a hill top, Dawn dropped her head to scratch her knee while Heaven looked far into the distance.
"Ever wonder what's beyond the horizon?" Heaven questioned in a rather low voice. As her gaze stayed glued to the dry land, she spotted a dust cloud. Narrowing her eyes Heaven stared, trying to figure out what it was, of course it wasn't a herd of animals. It certainly didn't look like it. Dawn began to grow uneasy moving herself from side to side with her back legs.
"What is it?" Heaven dropped her gaze at Dawn. Dawn scratched the ground snorting. Heaven turned back at the dust cloud and now saw what it was. There were around 30 vehicles or so quickly moving towards them, none of them were small, they were army vehicles. Heaven felt her stomach sink and her blood go cold. Dawn snapped her out of her frozen state when she threw her head up, almost colliding with Heaven's face. Without a second to spare she kicked Dawn's sides and they quickly turned dashing down he hill back to the village.
Oh boy what kind of trouble is heading their way xD
