"Are you lost dear lady?" said a smooth voice from behind her. She twisted around to see a young man with dark red hair sitting on a horse… what was it with horses!

"I… I am," she said. "I'm, ah, not exactly from this place… or world even. I'm looking for my daughter Alice, Alice Hamilton?"

"ah yes! Alice of Legend," he said. "I was out of the country when she came but I have heard many things about her. And I'm guessing you went astray when you came through the Looking Glass." She shrugged. "Alice should be at the castle. She and Hatter come through and visit King Jack and Queen Duchess all the time… well, by your standards. I hear it's only been three months over there." Carroll was speechless. "I can take you there if you wish?"

Carroll paused a second. "Normally I would refuse a ride from a stranger, but I'm afraid I have no idea where I am. So thank you, I would appreciate that."

"I'm Knave," he said extending a hand and pulling her up.

"Carroll."

"See, now we're not strangers," he smiled as he began to trot forward. They rode on quietly for a while.

"So how is Hatter settling into your world?" Knave said breaking the silence.

"Sorry?" she said astounded. "You mean to say that David is actually from here?" Knave laughed.

"David! Is that what they call him there? And yes he is. After their little adventure together he couldn't leave Alice's side, followed her back. From what I heard she didn't exactly mind, am I right?"

"Ran straight to his arms," she told him and he laughed again.

After that they continued to ride in silence, even though a thousand questions bubbled in her head.
