Jason Reider looked out the window of the school bus. It was a rainy day, the sky was covered in dark, grey clouds. Beside Jason sat his best friend, Alex Harth, wearing his usual tee shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.
Jason and Alex had a very envied friendship. Neither of them were that much alike, but yet they got along so well, and they were both 14 years old, Jason was older by about 2 months, though.
They were both in 9th grade, and had all of the same classes together, so they were basically never seperated. Neither of them were very popular. They were on an average popularity level. They really had nothing that would make them stand out. No comedic skill, no awesome skateboarding moves, no genius brain that allowed them to get straight A's in every class. They were just... kids.
The bus made it's final stop before heading off to the school. The kid who got on was Angelica Lot, probably the most popular girl in school. Jason could've sworn that one time he heard a group of 7th grade boys discussing the possibilities of a fan club for her "shining glory".
Jason didn't go about things that way. He definitely like Angelica. She was popular, but not snobby and bratty. She was attractive, but she was not cursed with vanity. She wore makeup, but not to where she looked fake. He wanted to be with her, but he was more of a laid back type of guy. He didn't get too excited over things, and he certainly did not plan to make an Angelica fan club any time soon.
Angelica walked past Jason and Alex, then turned to sit in the seat right behind theirs.
"Dude, did you notice something different about Angelica?" Alex whispered to Jason.
"No, not really, did you?" Jason replied.
"Did you see what she was holding?"
"No."
"Well, I did, she accidentally dropped one. She had a bunch of them. It's an invitation for something," he said as he held up a pink card that said "You're Invited! Be Excited!" on the front.
Jason looked at the card, then grabbed it from Alex. He examined the front.
He didn't know if he truly wanted to read what was inside, but he opened the card and started whispering what it said to Alex as they leaned forward to make sure no one else could hear them.
.

.
"Wow," Alex said in amazement.
"You know, if I were a girl, this would probably sound like the greatest time ever," Jason said
"Yeah, you got that right, when is it again?"
"Um... it says November 17."
"Huh, that's tomorrow."
"Yep... hey, you doin' anything that night?"
"Not that I know of, why?"
"I was thinking that maybe you could come over, since my older sister is probably going to this thing, and my parents are out on a business trip for the next couple of days, I'd be home alone."
"Yeah, sure, why not?"
"Sweet, man. Bring the X-BOX, okay?"
"Alright."
The bus stopped in front of the school doors. As Jason was gathering up his stuff, Angelica walked past him, carrying a small bag full of those "You're Invited! Be Excited!" cards.
