The death of William Campbell was a sad one. I had to do this for a project in my English class so criticism, or flames only if they're funny are openly accepted. This is an alternate ending for Crusade. T for character death

His body dove under the water and as his vision faded for the last time, an image of his wife and child appeared to him, completely surreal. He reached for it with the last of his energy, and his life faded away with the thought that neither of them had made it out of Acre alive.

Screams sounded from the city gates. Mamluk riders were storming onto the harbor. Will strode to the group of Jews. "Move!" he shouted at them.

Confused and terror-stricken, they needed little encouragement. As they saw the group, a few Mamluks broke off and thundered toward them. Will went to fight the Mamluks, swinging his sword. He stabbed one horse through the neck and crippled one with a swing of his falchion through the back legs. The fallen rider recovered and went to meet him with his own sword. Will disposed of him with a quick jab to the throat. The other rider soon stood up, but was quickly slashed down through the chest. He let out a scream as he fall to the ground.

A flurry of arrows was soon upon Will. The first arrow flew past him, followed by many more. One struck him in the back, but bounced off his chainmail. Another came soon afterwards and grazed his neck. He clasped his hand over the scrape, but shook off the pain and continued to run towards the underground entrance to the Temple.

He soon heard the roaring of horse hooves coming closer. He whirled around and downed the horse with a single blow. The horse's momentum sent it barreling into Will's body and into the harbor. Will rose to the surface as the group he had been directing reached the entrance. He swam back to the harbor docks and climbed on top of them, still full of citizens who could not find a boat to escape the carnage. He rushed back towards the secret entrance to theTemple. More arrows shot through the air towards him, most missing by a short distance. Two bounced off of his chainmail and one embedded itself between the small chains. He staggered from the impact, while several Mamluk soldiers rushed to his location on foot. They held a plethora of weapons from swords to clubs to spiked maces. Soon they were all upon Will, pounding and smashing and stabbing their weapons into his chainmail. His armor ripped in several places, leaving his skin undefended from the weapons of the enemy. As his body was bludgeoned and cut, he crawled to the dock's edge, all the while being harassed by the weapons of the Mamluks. One attempted to halt his movements by stomping on his back, but only succeeded to break a rotting board under the Templar's body, knocking the Mamluk off balance and into the harbor. Will continued to crawl, with increasingly feeble attempts to fend off the attackers. He reached the edge of the dock and attempted to pull himself into the water. The Mamluks grabbed his legs, but a last rush of adrenaline rushed through Will and he slashed at their hands with his falchion.

His body dove under the water and as his vision faded for the last time, an image of his wife and child appeared to him, completely surreal. He reached for it with the last of his energy, and his life faded away with the thought that neither of them had made it out of Acre alive.
