Renewing One's Commitment
"Are you sure about this Qui-Gon?" Mace Windu asked.
"I am sure, I formally request to reinstate Obi-Wan Kenobi's status as my apprentice," was Qui-Gon Jinn's calm reply.
"You are aware of the fact that Obi-Wan-"
"I am quite aware, Master Windu-" Qui-Gon refuted, cutting him off. "I am confident that Obi-Wan Kenobi's desire to return to the Jedi Temple is genuine and sincere."
"I'm very sorry for all of the trouble I've caused, Master Windu," Obi-Wan said nervously.
"Obi-Wan, you are thirteen years old, you are not a child and you are old enough to know that there are consequences for your actions," Master Windu said. Obi-Wan's eyes remained on the floor, he found that Mace Windu's gaze was much to sharp and intense to hold for any length of time. Qui-Gon looked over at Obi-Wan, he saw the effects of Master Windu's harsh words on the young boy. "With all due respect Master Windu," Qui-Gon interjected. "Obi-Wan understands that he made a mistake."
"He is not a child."
"But he is! He is thirteen-years-old, he is a child. He made a mistake and he knows that. You remember thirteen don't you? You weren't perfect, and I wasn't either. We've all made mistakes and we'll continue to make more, it's simply apart of life. At least he's responsible enough to realize and admit that he made a mistake. Know this, Obi-Wan Kenobi is my apprentice, regardless of what the council decides," Qui-Gon said. A look of shock crossed Obi-Wan's face, did Qui-Gon really just challenge a member of the Jedi council? For him?
"Master Qui-Gon, the council decides who is allowed to train here at the Jedi Temple, not you."
"I will continue to train him weather the council grants me permission or not."
"Terminated Obi-Wan's probation is," Master Yoda said. All eyes moved to the tiny creature sitting on his seat. "Committed he is, faith in him, I have," Yoda continued before turning to Mace Windu. "Continue training with Qui-Gon Obi-Wan may." A sigh of relief escaped from Obi-Wan. "Spend time here Obi-Wan will, to renew the bond between master and padawan," Yoda said. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon bowed before the council and exited the circular room, the doors hissing behind them.
