Disclaimer: I do not own Labyrinth, and no money is being made from this story.
Summery: 5 years after the movie, Sarah is now in collage and getting along with her family. Everything is perfect until she begins having recuring, and worsening, nightmares of Jareth being murdered. Fearing her nightmares are real she calls Jareth to her and slowly begins to see how the years have changed him from the cocky, arogant, and sometimes cruel king he was to a man broken by time and despair. Can Sarah save him before it's too late, or will her nightmares come true? WARNING: Rated M for violence, gore, and graffic scenes. Underage readers strongly cautioned.
Chapter 1- Nightmares:
Sarah looked around, wondering where she was. She was underground somewhere. It looked like the oubliette she had fallen into when she solved the labyrinth, but something was different. The room around her was made of rock, the cave however was not natural for she could see the tool marks upon the stone. Suddenly she heard a muffeled scream. Running forward she saw that she was not in a room but a long corridor. Running down the stone passageway she turned and what she saw made her scream. Jareth, bloody and bruised, was chained to the wall while five goblins beat and kicked him. Her scream allerted them to her presence.
"Get the girl!" A goblin, who seemed to be the leader, with an angry red scar running over his left eye yelled.
Three goblins grabbed Sarah before she could move. They pulled her to the ground and held her with their vice-like grips.
"Leave her alone" Jareth croaked, "Your fight is..."
Just then the goblin to his right punched him in the stomache. Jareth groaned and his head fell forward. The leader ordered his fellow to release Jareth. He weakly fell to the floor, the leader grinned as he pulled a long dagger from under his clothes. He kicked Jareth onto his back and raised the dagger. Sarah tried to look away but one of the goblins holding her forced her head around to look at Jareth. The dagger flashed in the torchlight, as the goblin plunged the dagger into Jareth's chest. Bright blood poured from the wound and from the goblin king's mouth. His eyes rolled back and he went suddenly limp. Sarah starred hard at his chest, wanting it to show the rise and fall of his breathing. There was no movement. The goblins released her and laughing they walked back up the stone passageway. Sarah crawled to Jareth's lifeless form. With tears streaming down her face she wispered then shouted his name, hoping that her eyes were lying to her. She placed her trembling fingers to the side of his neck, feeling for a pulse. Holding his face in her hands she looked for any sign of life. But she knew she was too late. He was gone.
Sarah awoke in her collage dormroom to her roommate, Jessy's, voice. She was wrapped in the blankets like a cocoon. Tears were still flowing freely down her cheeks into her damp pillow.
"Sarah! Sarah, are you alright?" Jessy asked in a concerned voice.
"Fine." Sarah answered shakily, "Just a nightmare."
"You were screaming and crying. What was going on? You scarred me to death."
Suddenly a loud knock came from their door.
"Security! Open this door!" a gruff voice said harshly.
Jessy flicked on the light and went to open the door as Sarah began detangling herself from her bedclothes.
"What's going on in here?" The security guard demanded.
"She had a nightmare." Jessy said, pointing at Sarah.
"That true?" The man asked turning to Sarah.
"Yes. Just a nightmare."
Sarah's heart was still racing and her breath still came in gasps. The guard scowled at her, grunted and went back out the door. Jessy closed the door with a snap and walked over to where Sarah was sitting on her bed trying to calm down.
"Are you sure you're ok? That must have been some dream. You were screaming like you were being murdered or something."
"Yes, I'm fine." Sarah said finally getting a hold on herself.
"This is the third night you've had nightmares." Jessy said sitting on the edge of the bed with a worried expression. "Are you sure you're ok?"
"Yeah." Sarah said getting her breathing under control.
Jessy looked hard at her and seemed to decide she was ok.
"Who's Jareth?"
Sarah started at the name. "Why?" she asked.
"Right before you woke up you yelled that name. Who is it?"
"Just someone I knew when I was younger."
"Old boyfriend?" Jessy asked with a hint of a smile.
Sarah smiled, "No, just an old friend."
"Is he who these dreams are about?"
"Yes."
"What happened?"
"I just keep seeing him being murdered. And it seems to be getting worse."
Jessy pursed her lips and looked out the window, thinking.
"Tomorrow is Spring Break, maybe you should go home for the week. You need to relax and see if you can get rid of these nightmares."
"Yeah," Sarah said, "I think that might be a good idea."
Let me know what you think. No flames please.
