Alex's POV-
I walked through the hallways of the workshop looking. I didn't know WHAT I was looking for exactly; I just kept my eyes peeled for something out of the ordinary. While I was scanning the hall my foot connected with something hard and I leaned over in pain and grabbed my foot. After holding my foot and rubbing it to make the pain go away faster I looked up to see what I had hit. But there was nothing there, I looked around and I caught something right before I was going to turn around and leave.
I know it sounds weird but it looked like a piece of the wall was jutting out. I walked over and kneeled in front of it. I felt along the wall cautiously and it actually was a piece of the wall jutting out. I slipped my fingers I between the space that was left and shoved the small square piece of wall out of my way. Underneath I found a secret passage, I had heard about them before but I had never actually seen one until today. I leaned inside holding the outside walls, and what I found puzzled me. The passage looked far from abandoned like I had known them to be, in fact, it looked recently used.
There was no dust on the ground of the passage or in the air and I could see clear in for the first 20 feet or so until it took a right turn. I looked behind me and turned my head checking if anyone was watching me then I took a deep breath and exhaled and climbed in. This passage was definitely made for an elf it wasn't very big and a person with a normal height would have a hard time fitting through. The passage felt similar to an air duct, but the metal felt dented and bent.
In fact, it felt like someone who was too big tried to fit inside of it damaging the passage. I started to have a hard time maneuvering myself further I traveled into the air duct, and the farther I went the dimmer the light became until I was walking into total darkness. My pace slowed to a snail pace as I felt around on the bottom of the air duct. The air duct became wider now and I didn't have to squeeze to fit through. I crawled further into the darkness and right before I was about to lose my courage and turn back I fell down the air shaft.
The shaft wasn't what I had expected it was padded and when I reached the bottom my fall was cushioned by pillows and anything soft. I stumbled to my feet tripping over the pillows in front of me still shaken by the near death experience I had just had. I crawled out of the cushion pit and saw a hallway. There were no other doors or windows in the room so I walked into the hall. I wrapped around myself and whistled softly as I went farther and farther in the hall.
Then I saw a small dim light, I ran for it stumbling a few times. I ran closer to an arch way that led into a huge room I hid on the wall of the arch and peeked inside. It was empty so I quietly stepped inside. It was an old wrapping room, probably just built over after it went out of use. My stomach clenched and I knew it was in here. I went to the desk where papers were lying cluttered and sifted through them looking for something of use. I got lucky and found a picture of two twin boys written in elegant neat handwriting was Jack and Jeff. I felt a surge of small victory in my chest as I uncovered a paper with a history of the two boys where jack had been scribbled out in blue pen with worrying things written on the sides.
This is what I needed to clear Jacks name, but these two papers although enlightening weren't enough to prove Jack was innocent. Then, WHAM! A tape on the label was security 1, 3, 5, &8. I looked around and sure enough I found a TV with a VHS player. I slipped it in and what I found was a miracle. I smiled victoriously, and ejected the tape. I went back to the desk and grabbed a map that had been lying on there and went to a copier and made a copy leaving the original inconspicuously on the desk where I had found it. Then my copy of my way out and I bolted out of the room. I only hoped I could make it this time.
-End POV
Without any kind of deliberation needed on Jack's case his sentence came soon. Not more than two hours after throwing him in the jail cell the elf police came and escorted him back onto the main floor of the workshop. The workshop had shut down all the elves were gathered around where it would be held but they kept a fair distance away. After all, this was a big deal Jack Frost losing his power was a biggy, but then again they didn't want to be to close when it happened.
Eira sat in the chair closest to where it was going to happen; she was determined to stay by his side no matter what happened. Her family had been comforting her telling her it was for the best, but she felt spite towards the words and didn't heed them. The doors swung open and Eira's head swiveled over to the doors. Jack was being led slowly to the center of the circle left in the room. Mother Nature stood at the front, her head held high in authority, Jacks hung low in shame.
"Jack Frost You have done countless deeds against all the legendary figures despite all the numerous chances that you've generously been given. Our patients have run thin by vote and the past I Mother Nature now-WAIT!"
Every head turned to Alex who was running into the room panting like a dog in summer time.
"Jack Frost is…innocent," many gasps and murmurs came from this statement "I have proof!"
Mother Nature's eyebrows rose in surprise and Alex rose to the front of the room.
"It wasn't Jack who stole the Escape Clause it was his brother Jeff. I have proof right here that he exist, and that he wants Jack gone."
Mother Nature took the papers from his hand regally and looked through with her eyes.
"Although this does prove that Jack indeed has a brother it in no way proves Jack innocent. Jeff has always hated Jack, and even if you are right and he did do it, he would have had to escape the mental hospital where he is contained. If he had escaped I would have been informed." More murmurs came after this.
"Yes this is true but this isn't the only proof I have," Alex reached into his pack and unsheathed the tape and map "this is a tape of the security cameras that watch the factory floor up here and the ones that are no longer used. It shows Jeff on these tapes taking the escape clause. He's been using the old passageways and air ducts to hide from us. I'm positive of this because I found one that he hadn't quite concealed enough. I have the map of all the passage ways he's been using as well as the main room he uses."
Some elves had come and fetched a TV at Scotts orders at seeing the tape and Alex popped it in. Immediately the screen flooded with picture and Alex had fast forwarded it so it would stop right where Jeff took the Escape Clause. Everybody gasped including Mother Nature, and Alex ejected the tape.
"So as you can see with your own eyes Jack is innocent of the crime."
Mother Nature waved her hand and the elves let Jack go and Eira leapt into his awaiting arms and kissed him. Her family was smiling behind them and Alex was watching the happy reunited couple with the satisfactory that he had done well.
"That was an awfully sweet and brave thing to do Alex." Bekkah said standing next to him looking over at her friend with a smile.
"It was nothing. Justice needed to be served." He smiled at her and brought her into a hug.
Bekkah blushed and quickly kissed him on the cheek turning an even redder shade, and Alex smiled softly his cheeks also pink.
"Alex, we need the map to find Jeff." Mother Nature inquired
"No need to. I sent some elf police to fetch him and take him by surprise, he's right over here. Bring him in boys." Two more elf police carried in a very angry and pouty Jeff.
No one uttered a word this included Jeff who was seething with silent anger that his entire rvenge plan had been foiled, the only word said was by Mother Nature herself.
"Take him back to the hospital and I will this time personally make sure that he never gets out again." She said looking directly at Jeff who didn't look back. The elves handed him over to the mental ward officers and they disappeared in a sparkle.
All the elves cheered, Eira hugged Jack with happiness and he kissed her. Her family all smiled and apologized greatly to Jack, especially Charlie, and Jack literally just waved it off with a smile since he couldn't speak yet. Richard came over and gave Eira a hug smiling saying he was glad all the drama was over. He looked over at Alex and Bekkah who were in their own little world and he said with a fake sad face
"Everybody's with someone now, and I'm a loner." Bekkah and Eira just laughed saying encouraging words of humor.
Eira held Jacks hand laying her head on her shoulder and went to go talk to her family more.
"Bek I was wondering if you, maybe would like to hang out some time?"
"Yes! Mhmm, I would like that very much." She said lowering her enthusiasm on the second time. Alex smiled happily and grabbed Bekkah's hand which she didn't complain and followed to join the conversing family.
As you can imagine everything after that just fell into place. Every one pitched in and with the effort they finished Christmas on schedule. Scott did his delivery for the night and soon after went on a vacation with Buddy and Carol to Hawaii. Eira after having a serious talk with Jack and her family together on what she really wanted they had decided that Eira would stay and live at the North Pole with her friends and Jack. Bekkah, Richard, and Jack were thrilled to hear this. Bernard got her a job at assembly putting the toys together and putting the finishing touches on them, which she enjoyed immensely. She had always liked building things.
Jack found a new fun and light in his position and stayed true to his job. During the winter months he would leave to spread his magic around the world. He became much more involved and serious in his job as well. But when he came home he would become relaxed and immature again and he would spend the whole day he came back with Eira. Richard was Richard hanging with his friends and enjoying his job, as well as looking for a girlfriend. Bekkah and Alex after a few dates became a couple themselves. All this happened within half a year. Jeff was put in the higest security safe cells in the mental hspital where he was left at. Mother Nature's own magic keeping inside. He never bothered Jack again.
Now we see Eira at Christmas again a year having gone past, decorating the tree a bit for when her parents and Charlie come for Christmas. She hums a little Christmas tune to herself, and then she feels a pair of cold hands on her hips. She smiles as Jack lifts her of the ladder.
"You excited about the family coming."
"You bet Frosty. Hey I have an idea how about we warm up our snowboarding a little bit. Lucy said she wanted to do a snowboarding contest with: me, you, Alex, and Bekkah. I know Alex and Bekkah will be there they told me before I started decorating the tree, which was only 15 minutes ago." She looked at him hopefully.
He rubbed his chin pretending to think it over then looks over at her and says "You're on."
Eira smiles and they both run out of the room, the sound of their laughter echoing behind them.
