Chris was standing at the door, Sally quickly walked out of the front door and closed it behind her.

"What are you doing here?" She asked at a whisper.

Sally and Chris had met up in a bar in Surrey a couple of weeks before, they came with different groups of friends but began to talk as the evening progressed. Sally knew nothing about him applying for the promotion to D.O. and guessed that he was still staying at Fire Investigation in a county on the outskirts of London.

They got quite drunk and Chris kissed Sally, but she pulled away before anything happened because she thought they might have done something that they would have later regretted.

-----------------------

"Why didn't you call me?" Chris asked, as Sally pulled him by the sleave, well down the corridor so that Hyper wouldn't hear an utter.

"I've been busy," She replied, "Why didn't you tell me about the promotion?" She questioned.

"Oh... that," He murmured.

"What do you mean 'Oh that'?" She questioned incredulously, "We exchange numbers to meet up again and God knows what might've happened... and you don't tell me that you're going to be my new D.O.!?"

As Sally finished ranting on, Chris amusedly chuckled slightly and lent towards her and briefly brushed his lips against hers.

She moved away from him almost instantly.

"I'm uh... sorry," He replied, "I shouldn't have..."

Sally cut him off, "You should have told me."

She had pondered various conclusions. Meeting Chris again, something maybe happening.

Her past hadn't exactly turned out brilliantly... falling for Dan... breaking up with Dan... falling in love with Joe... Joe proposing... Joe getting killed... Sean attacking her and attacking at her pride with it.

----------------------

"I know and I'm sorry," He replied glancing down at his newly polished shoes.

"I'm happy for you," She replied after an uncomfortable silence, "Even though my enthusiasm earlier wasn't exactly truthful."

Chris looked up at her and smiled weakly.

"I wish you all the luck in the world," She said as she began walking back towards her and Rob's flat.

"Sally..." He called after her.

She ignored him and carried on walking down the corridor. She hated being lied to, if she was even going to consider a relationship with someone she wanted truthfullness. She felt a tear trickle down her cheek as he continuously called out her name. Why was she crying? It's not like she was in love with the guy... was she?

Chris watched her walk towards the flat and carried on calling her name a couple of times more but she didn't stop, she didn't even slower her pace of walking.

"Blue Watch, Blue Watch 'shun for your duties fall out," Geoff said, then all of the watch walked off into other directions.

"You know Chris I was surprised to hear you were our new D.O.," Coleman said as him and Chris walked down the stairs out the station and around near the appliances.

"You and me both," Chris replied with a smile.

Geoff, who was standing a distance away, sighed. He hated Chris, always had done ever since he'd walked through the station doors on the first day of him being a probationary station office, even them years ago. Now Chris was their D.O., probably the only good thing about that was that they no longer had to put up with Griggs' and Sally's mind could be at rest knowing that Griggs wasn't dishing out the orders.

"You ok Sal?" George asked Sally who seemed somewhat distracted.

"Hmm?" Sally murmured, looking up at George, Adam and Recall, who seemed to be looking at her.

"He said are you ok?" Adam said with a slight smile, "I dunno Sally, you look kinda dazed."

"I'm fine," Sally replied with a smile.

"Sure?" Hyper added as he walked towards the others with Hi - Ho.

"Totally... guys you're worrying about nothing, I'm fine," She said trying to smile as well as she could, considering how uncomfortable she felt.

Chris walked past with Coleman, with Geoff slowly snailing behind. He looked at Sally and smiled. There was a brief moment of eye contact between the two, then Chris turned and walked.

Chris, Coleman and Geoff began talking as Chris got into his car.

"Why did he have to come back, I thought I made myself clear," George mumbled.

Hyper nodded, "I suppose he has to be stationed where he's put I suppose."

"But with being a D.O. don't they advertise around the country for a certain possition that has came vacant?" Hi - Ho questioned.

Recall nodded, "Yeah, I think Hi - Ho is right for once lads."

"So he knew he would be getting the job in London?" George asked.

"Definitely," Recall replied.

The watch were called to a RTA on the main roads around the edge of the Blackwall and Shadbrook area. A gang of youths stole a car and went for a joy ride, a police patrol car had gone in a wild pursuit and the driver of the stolen car ended up becoming so distracted that it went into a wrong lane, swerved to hit a car and went straight into an embankment, followed by another car, that had to swerve. The police car stopped and the constables began clearing the scene as the appliances and paramedics arrived.

"My leg!" One of the guys screamed.

"Just keep calm," Sally said softly, noticing his leg was trapped, "We're gonna get you out of there as soon as we can."

The two other lads, who were in the back of the car, were lifted out of the car by Recall and Adam, who then passed them other to the paramedics. They only suffered minor lacerations and bruises. The driver however had a trapped leg, which was somehow lodged into a bent position, which proved very painful.

"How much longer?" The paramedic questioned.

"George we need the cutting gear... he's bleeding out all over the place," Sally yelled over to George.

"Alright, I'm coming!" George yelled.

The boy got cut free and was rushed to the nearest hospital. The watch moved the car out of the embankment and the scene was cleared. In a matter of hours after it happening, the road was opened yet again and everything went on as before.

"Coming for a drink Sal?" Adam asked.

"No thanks lads, I would love to join you but I really don't feel in the mood," Sally replied.

"Sally... I'm going out for the evening with some mates so I probably won't be back until late," Hyper said, approaching Sally.

"Ok," She said nodding, "I'll see you later... or maybe tomorrow depending on when you crawl in or come home," She said with a smile.

The lads headed off towards the Oliver Twist and beyond and Sally headed off to her and Hyper's flat.

As she walked down the landing of their flat, she noticed someone sitting on the door step.

"Sally..."

"Chris what are you doing here?" She questioned.

"We need to talk," He said standing up, not directly answering her question.

Sally moved his elbow aside, so she could get her key in the lock, "We've got nothing to discuss," She replied stubbornly.

"We have," He said looking at her as she entered her flat and began to shut the door on him, "Please..."

Sally sighed and stepped aside so he could walk in. She then closed the door behind him.

"I'm sorry ok? I should've told you. But I feared... I dunno... loosing chances."

"What do you mean loosing chances?" She questioned, then realising what he meant. "Chris, you had a relationship with my best friend, which went pear shaped, then you had an adulterous relationship with a colleague and a friends wife..."

"Sally, Yvonne and Kelly are history. Me and George sorted everything out and Kelly knows that too."

"George isn't exactly happy with you being our new D.O.," Sally told him.

"I guessed that, but I can't just not go for a job I want 'cause George doesn't want me in a twenty mile radius from him."

Sally nodded and sighed slightly.

"Sally I like you... I wouldn't be here if I didn't," Chris told her, glancing across the room at her.

"I'm sick of being hurt and treating like shit," Sally told him.

"I won't hurt you," he replied, walking closer to her.

"But it's against the rules..." She added.

"What is?" He murmured, as he placed his hand on her cheek and brushed his lips gently against hers.

"This..." She replied, giving into temptations and kissed him back.

"This?" He questioned as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Having relationships with people in lower ranks then you..." She said leaning her head away from him for a moment and looking into her eyes. "I don't want to be a one night stand Chris... I don't want to be used."

He nodded, "I think I'm past the age of messing people about, I won't do that to you Sally."

"Really?" She questioned, in a slightly surprised tone. She always felt that men used her, Dan and Joe didn't, but Sean and there had been so many blokes before that.

"Really," He confirmed, leaning towards her and kissing her again.

Just then there was a turn of the key in the lock, Sally quickly pulled away and stood a distance away from Chris. "Yeah... I think it is Coleman's birthday in two weeks... why? Are you planning a birthday do?" Sally asked as Rob walked in the flat.

"Hiya... I forgot something... Hi Chris..." Hyper said looking slightly confused that Chris was there and noticed the tension in the room.

"Hi Rob," Chris said uncomfortably.

"And Coleman's birthday is in December not in two weeks time... Geoff's is in 4 weeks," Hyper replied, correcting Sally. "Anyway, I've got what I wanted, see you later."

"Bye..." Sally replied as she heard the door closed. She sighed with relief.

"We really had better be careful," Chris said.

Sally nodded in agreeing, "Or both of our jobs will be on the line."
