Chapter 1: Post- Unova league

"And Serperior is unable to battle. Flareon is the winner and the Unova league champion is Trip!" The judge pointed to Ash's rival.

"Thanks for everything Serperior, you did great." Ash returned his grass Pokémon and stood up. "Came up short again, but this is the farthest we have made it in any league." He congratulated himself.

"Hey Ash!" Trip called. Ash turned to see his rival slowly walk up to him. "I hate to say this, but even after the countless times I have beaten you, this was a hard victory. I guess your team isn't the joke it was back in the battle club. Thanks, I guess." Trip offered his hand and Ash gladly shook it.

"I'll see you around." Trip snapped a picture of Ash before turning away. Pikachu jumped on Ash's shoulder.

"Don't worry Pikachu, this will just help us get stronger, we came in the top 4 in Sinnoh, now we're runner up in Unova, I'm actually getting a lot better than when I started off in Kanto. Thanks for your help to Pikachu." Ash rubbed Pikachu's head and walked out of the stadium where he saw all of his friends and a few past rivals.

"Ash that was so awesome, that you will not be fined today." Barry crossed his arms.

"Yeah, right." Dawn stared at Barry. "That was really great though Ash, that was a close battle." She continued.

"Ash, still got it?" May asked, holding up a half of a ribbon. "You bet, I think it helped me get to the last round May." He held up the other half of the ribbon and placed them together.

"Hey kid!" Iris called from behind him. "Great battle today. Guess you're not the little kid you were when you started in Unova." Iris teased. "Yeah, if you had won, that would have been great!" Cilan added. "So where are you heading next?" Cilan asked.

"I think I'm just going home. I might restart a few regions to try to win. I'll have to decide when I get back to Kanto." Ash replied. "How about you come back to Hoenn. I'm sure Max would want to see how many Pokémon you've caught since we left." May suggested. "If you go, can I come to?" Dawn asked. "Yeah me too, or else you WILL get a fine!" Barry shook his fist threateningly at him.

"Why don't we just let him think before you ask to go with him, where ever he goes?" Misty suggested. "Fine, but no matter what, he better bring me or it's a BIG fine for you!" Barry placed his finger on Ash's forehead.

"Let's just let him think Barry." Dawn pulled Barry away. "Fine." Barry sighed.

"Well Ash, do you have an idea on where you're going next?" Brock asked. "Yeah, I think I'm going to take May up on her answer. I think Hoenn was one of the best Journeys I was on." Ash replied. May smiled.

"Great! We can leave once you're ready!" "I am going with you!" Barry called from at least 3 football fields away. "How he heard that is beyond my imagination." Ash shook his head as Brock, May, and Misty stared in Barry's direction.

"Anyway, I'm going to start packing tonight so we can leave first thing in the morning." Ash said. There was a loud rumble and they shot their attention to May. "Or we can leave after breakfast. I guess that works too." Ash scratched the back of his head.

*********************** The next day ******************************

"Barry! Come on! You were all excited to come to Hoenn and you are taking forever!" Dawn called angrily from the boat. "Hold on Dawn! If you don't stop, you are so getting a…" "A fine Barry, it's always a fine!" She interrupted.

"There's no fun in it if I don't say it!" Barry flailed his arms around in anger.

"Barry! Misty, Dawn, Brock, and even May is on already! She takes forever!" Ash called. May smacked the back of his head. Ash laughed.

"Alright, I'm here, are you all happy now?" Barry collapsed on the deck. Dawn grabbed him by his collar and yanked him up in the air and he struggled to get on the ground again. He broke free of her grip and landed on his feet.

"Ok that is worthy of a fine, you have ten seconds to pay up! 10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3!" Dawn covered his mouth. "Shut up for once." Dawn said getting close to him. He mumbled something and she took her hand off his mouth and walked away.

"Alright! Next stop Kanto! Then back to Hoenn!" Ash cheered as the boat drifted into the open water. "I guess Hoenn was your favorite then." Dawn asked. "Probably, even though I didn't get that close, it was still an amazing journey, and I can't wait to go back!" Ash smiled, imagining what he's going to do first.

"Well, why don't stop by professor Birch's lab first, get a checkup and say hi. Then go stop by Petalburg City so I can visit my family." May suggested. "That sounds like a good plan, that's what we'll do then." Ash smiled.

"Hey Ash, what beginners are there in Hoenn?" Barry asked. "Well, there's Torchic who evolves into Combusken and then Blaziken, which May has now, I think." Ash turned to her and she pulled out a pokeball and Blaziken came out and stood over Barry.

"Ok, ok, I get the idea." Barry nervously said as May returned Blaziken. "Next there's Mudkip who evolves into Marshtomp, and finally into Swampert. The final beginner is Treecko, Grovyle, and finally Sceptile and I used him in the Sinnoh league if you remember." Barry nodded to say he remembered.

"So how about a small battle Ash? One on one." Barry asked. Ash smirked. "Great idea. I need to get ready for Hoenn!" Ash clenched his fist. They ran to an open section on the ship and they got ready to face off.

"First Pokémon to be unable to battle will lose, pretty simple Ash. Can you handle that? If you don't, there will be a fine for you." Barry teased. "Yeah Barry let's go!" Ash grabbed a pokeball from his belt.

"This will be a one on one battle!" May announced. "Begin!" "Alright Empoleon! Let's GO!" Barry through his pokeball onto the field. "Now Infernape! I chose you!" Ash through his pokeball and both Pokémon where on the field.

"HA HA! I have an advantage. I have an advantage!" Barry sang in a teasing voice. "Mach punch!" "Huh?" Infernape had already appeared in front of Empoleon and hit him directly. He was sent back and tumbled in front of Barry.

"Hey! No fair! I wasn't ready! Ash Ketchum, you are begging for a fine!" Barry screamed. "Well get going! It's your turn." Ash laughed. "Alright Empoleon, use drill peck!" "Not so fast! Infernape, flare blitz!" The two collided and forced against each other. Infernape gained the advantage and knocked Empoleon back again, but getting hurt by the recoil of flare blitz.

"How are you beating me?" Barry called out as Empoleon slowly got up. "Mach punch, let's wrap this up!" Ash said as Infernape hit Empoleon with the attack. He was knocked to the ground and he was out.

"Empoleon is unable to battle, Infernape is the winner and Ash is the victor."
May said. "Alright Infernape, great job." Ash said as he took out Infernape's pokeball. "Return Empoleon." Barry said defeated.

"Grr, HOW DID YOU BEAT ME WHEN I HAD A TYPE ADVANTAGE! YOU HAVE TEN SECONDS TO PAY UP THE MEGA FINE YOU ARE GETTING! 10! 9! 8!" "Barry! Stop with the fine and look!" Dawn pointed to an island coming into view.

"Hey is that?" "It is, it's Kanto, and you guys will finally see where I live!" Ash said as he admired his home region.

"Yes! I will get to speak to professor oak and then get a beginner from there, then off to Hoenn!" Barry happily chanted. "Well, you'll probably have to catch your own, I don't think Professor Oak will just give it to you." Brock said. "I don't care, as long as I get on!" Barry replied.

"Just think May, we'll be back in Hoenn by tomorrow." Ash turned to his friend. "Yeah, and I can compete in contests again and beat that dirt bag Drew!" May promised herself.

"I should just steal your food and say Drew did it. You probably would beat him to the point where he cries." Ash said. "I actually wouldn't mind that…" May said innocently. "Ok, never mind, because if you see me taking it, I would probably die." Ash nervously said.

"I wouldn't kill you." May laughed. "Just put you in critical condition." She smiled. "Ash blinked then turned his attention back to Kanto.

"Mom, I'm almost home." He thought to himself.
