Chapter Summary: Katherine visits Caroline and tells her about her sister Carol being her reincarnation, Caroline learns about what her reincarnation felt for Damon, with her back turned Katherine almost kills her with a stack but Damon saves Caroline before she does, and Caroline finds out something shocking that could change her, Damon, and the rest of their friends lives forever.

What Could Have Been

Chapter Fourteen

Caroline was just sitting on her bed when Katherine appeared in her room. She growled low in her throat and crouched as she continued to growl at Katherine. Katherine rolled her eyes at her sister's reincarnation.

"Oh calm down, I'm not here to hurt you," she reassured even though she was lying. She had to tell Caroline about Carol and then she would kill her. "I just came because I needed to tell you something."

Caroline stood up from her crouch but she kept a firm glare on Katherine's face. "How do I know you're not lying?" she asked.

"You can't," Katherine said. "But you're going to have to listen to me and then I'll be out of your hair."

Caroline crossed her arms still glaring at Katherine. "Fine, what did you want to tell me?" she asked, sitting down on her bed while watching Katherine carefully.

"You're my sister's reincarnation," Katherine said causally.

"WHAT?" Caroline screeched in shock. She shook her head viscously. "I don't believe you!"

Katherine sighed, pulling out a copy of the picture that she gave Damon and handed it over to Caroline. The girl's mouth fell open at the sight of the girl on the picture.

"N-No way, t-this i-isn't p-p-possible," Caroline sputtered still looking down at the picture with wide eyes.

"Well vampires aren't possible yet here we are," Katherine said amused at the shock expression the newbie's face.

Caroline got off of the bed and turned to face the window. She was looking out the window watching the moon. Caroline still had that shocked look on her face. Since her back was turned, she didn't see Katherine pull out a long steak. Before Katherine could hit her in the heart with it, she found herself being held to the wall by the throat. Caroline, who had heard the loud slam, turned around and gasped when she saw Damon holding Katherine the neck. She let out a louder gasp when she saw the steak on the ground. It was then Caroline realized that she could have been killed.

"Get the fuck out of here Katherine," Damon growled. His face was changed. His fangs were dangerously close to her neck as he said, "I'll kill you right on the fucking spot if you don't stay away from Caroline."

"Okay," Katherine managed to choke out.

She had a frightened look on her face. A look that Damon never seen on her face. Once he let her go, Katherine left. Damon rushed over to Caroline and held her face in his hands.

"Are you alright honey?" he asked, looking deep in her eyes.

Caroline nodded in his hands. "I'm fine," she resumed, brushing a hand on Damon's cheek. "Is is true that I'm Katherine's sister reincarnation?" She had a hopefully expression on her face, hoping with all her heart that it wasn't true.

Damon sighed, and Caroline's heart sank. "I'm sorry honey, but it's true," he said. "Katherine killed Carol, her sister, because Carol was in love with me."

Caroline gasped but it was mostly because of the face that Katherine killed her own flesh and blood. "That's awful!" she exclaimed. "She was in love with you, why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't know Katherine had a sister," Damon replied. "Apparently, according to Katherine, I was too busy paying attention to her to notice she had a sister."

"But it doesn't make sense," Caroline said. "Why does Katherine want to kill me?"

Damon shrugged. "I have no idea," he said. "Katherine never told me why."

Caroline was quiet after that. The silence was broken by Damon speaking.

"We'll worry about that later babe," he told her, pulling her over to the bed.

They laid on the bed and Caroline snuggled against him with a content sigh. The young couple fell asleep in a matter of seconds. Damon and Caroline both hoped that Katherine wouldn't come back but however they knew that wasn't going to happen. As long as Caroline was alive, Katherine wasn't going to stop coming after them.

-Daroline-

Caroline sat in the bedroom, holding something in her hand. It was a pregnancy test and it was positive.

"No, this can't be happening," she muttered into her hands. "I'm a freaking vampire; I'm not suppose to have kids."

"Care, are you alright?" Damon asked causing her jump and drop the pregnancy test.

"I'm fine," Caroline replied in a squeaky voice.

Damon's voice sounded worried when he said, "Are you sure your alright?"

Caroline nodded even though he couldn't see it. "I'm sure," she said.

Nothing was said after that. Caroline looked down at the pregnancy test with only one thought in her mind.

'How in the hell I'm I going to tell Damon?'
