Prompt #255 from tamingthemuse – Jackhammer
A terrible sound followed by the walls vibrating so much that pictures threatened to fall off them had jerked Spike and Xander awake. Spike instantly went into vamp mode but his hands were placed over his ears. The noise was too loud for his sensitive hearing. "Bloody hell! What his that horrible noise?"
Xander tumbled out of their bed before he crawled over to the window and wiggled his head under the drapes, not wanting any stray beams to turn Spike into a pile of dust. To his surprise it was still dark, the sun just peeking out from behind several buildings. Xander looked down to see a horrifying sight. "God damn, fuckers!" His head popped back into view and he looked at Spike. "Some asshole is down there using a jackhammer!"
Spike was only able to make out asshole and jackhammer. He curled up into a fetal position, the noise making his skull rattle. "My skull is going to explode!" Spike shouted, fingers pulling at his hair.
Instantly Xander was on the bed trying to soothe Spike. "It's okay, Spike. I'll fix it." A quick kiss was dropped on to blond hair and Xander was pulling on sweats not bothering with a shirt. He stormed out of their house and to where the jackass was tearing into the street. "HEY!" Xander screamed at the man. "BUDDY, TURN THAT DAMN THING OFF!"
The man's head popped up and he instantly turned off the jackhammer. "Sir, I am busy here."
"Yeah and I was busy sleeping. Do you know what time it is?" Xander asked and looked at his own watch. "It's five forty in the goddamn morning!"
"I am sorry if I've disturbed you but I have a job to do." He went to turn back on the jackhammer but was stopped when Xander grasped his wrist. "Sir…."
Xander glared at the man. "It would have been nice if we were given a warning about being disturbed so early. My boyfriend has very sensitive hearing and you are all but killing him!"
"Like I said, I'm sorry but this is my first day and I need to make a good impression," the man said.
Xander could understand that but that didn't make Spike any better. He looked at the man's name tag. "Tim, couldn't you wait a few hours? By then me and him can get out of here go see a movie or something."
Tim seemed to consider it but then shook his head. "No can do. Now please I need to get back to work."
"Fine, but you should know…." Xander was cut off.
"Look here! I am not putting my job on the line for some fags who need their beauty sleep!" Tim's voice turned harsh and cold.
With a smile and hands held up Xander said. "Hey, cool. You have a good day." He turned and walked away. When he returned to the bedroom Spike's head was buried under the pillows. The jackhammer started back up. "It's all right, Spike. It'll be stopping in a few minutes."
"How do you know?" Came the muffled response.
"Trust me," Xander said and snuggled up beside Spike.
Just like Xander said a few minutes later a whoosh of what sounded like water and a scream echoed in their bedroom. The jackhammer was turned off.
Spike's head instantly popped out from his barricade. "What the hell was that?"
"I tried to warn him," Xander said with a wicked smile and moved over to the window and looked down. "He wanted to impress his boss but didn't look at the blueprints correctly." He turned to look at Spike. "Tim hit the sewer line."
Spike let out a bark of laughter. "You've got to be kidding!"
"I kid you not," Xander said with a chuckle. "I think this was his first and last day on the job." He looked back down to see the man flailing on the street covered in water and other disgusting things. Karma's a bitch.
