On with the chapter~
The sound of the doorbell struck fear in everyone's' hearts, and we all sat there, frozen solid as the knocks and ringing of the doorbell grew more impatient. Finally, Carlisle slowly got to his feet and almost reluctantly walked towards to the ornate wooden door. Esme got up soon after, and rested a comforting hand on his arm. The rest of us just watched on silently, unsure of what to expect behind the door.
Aro stepped in first, gliding gracefully past the thresh hold and nodding his head at all of us, a grin on his face that reminded me of a dog baring its sharp teeth. His red eyes looked upon all of us, like a predator sizing up his prey and I shrunk into Jasper's arms as they fell on me.
Marcus and Caius entered soon after, their long black robes trailing on the floor. Caius looked pleased, his eyes glinting maliciously as he glared at all of us, as though he was keeping a secret from us. Marcus seemed just uncaring, looking past us to some far away spot in the forest behind. He didn't seem to care why he was here or where he was, and that was normal for him, even back in Volterra.
After they came in, members of their guard followed, their hoods up. I recognized them, those beady red eyes under the hoods, as Jane, Demetri, Alex, Felix, Chelsea, Reneta and Heidi. This was starting to looks less and less like a friendly house call, and my fears were only amplified when I saw Caius' eyes on me, his grin growing wider, like a Cheshire cat and I shivered, causing Jasper to put his arms around me protectively.
"Carlisle! My friend!" Aro addressed my father, who seemed uncomfortable.
"Hello Aro," Carlisle replied, trying to keep his tone light, "What brings you here today?"
"Well, you see," Aro's eyes swept the room, before finally landing on me, "I've come to claim what's mine."
I stiffened, this wasn't good. There was no way… I myself searched for Edward's golden eyes, and from his expression, my worst fears were confirmed.
"What do you mean, Aro?" Carlisle was politely confused, "There isn't anything here that belongs to you."
"Why, there is where you are mistaken, Carlisle," Aro chuckled, a deep throaty sound, "I've come for dear Alice."
It all happened so fast, I was out of Jasper's arms and he stood in a defensive stance in front of me, his golden eyes flashing, a growl rumbling deep in his chest.
"You'll never have her Aro! She isn't even yours in the first place," he hissed.
"My, my, you mean she never told you?" Aro seemed surprised, and he waved his guard off, who were preparing to attack Jasper. " Alice promised me, that she would join the last time in Italy."
Flashback
"Mean it," Bella whispered to Edward, "Please."
I knew the only way for us to get out of here safely was to show Aro what I saw, and convince him that the future was set in stone. Bella was to be changed.
I stepped forward, and he held out his hand expectantly. As soon as I laid my hand on his, I knew it was over. All those moments, those memories that were mine and Jaspers, were now his.
Suddenly, I was in a vision, and I saw Aro shaking his head, and the guard ripping Edward to pieces, and Felix breaking Bella's neck to drink her blood. I gasped, I couldn't let that happen. Aro smiled sadistically. He had seen, he knew it would happen. Unless…
Unless… I joined the Volturi.
I looked up to see Edward, his eyes pained, begging me no. It's the only way, I thought, knowing he could hear. I can't have you and Bella dying on me.
I made it, the sincere, concrete decision to join them, and was suddenly thrown into another vision. I saw myself, with red eyes, wearing the black cloak, standing next to Aro. We were in the Cullen house, and I saw behind us in the doorway was Bella, with golden eyes.
She would still be changed, and I would be a part of them. Aro was truly pleased with this vision. His eyes met mine, testing me, testing my sincerity and said quickly such that Bella could not hear:
"Promises must be kept Alice, Especially to the Volturi "
I nodded stiffly, what could I do? "Give me on last request," I pleaded.
"Anything," Aro was now confident. He knew there was no way I could get out of this.
"Let me go home, let me see Bella through the change." Let me see Jasper one last time, I almost said, but bit my tongue.
"But afterwards when we come for you, will you come willingly?"
"You have seen it yourself. Of course I will."
"And even if you did, there would be serious consequences…" Aro said, seemingly to himself, "Hahaha" he said the last part out loud, "That was fascinating!"
I gave a emotionless smile "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
End flashback
By now everyone's eyes were on me, even Jasper, whose eyes searched me, panic and worry written all over Say it isn't so, they pleaded.
"I… It was the only way we could come out of there alive."
"Alice, Alice Alice," I heard someone mumbling, and Jasper was suddenly by my side, holding me to his chest,
"I won't let them take you." He whispered fiercely, taking a shuddering breath, as if to calm himself.
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice," Aro said, fake sorrow colouring his voice, "either you come with us, or we fight. It's all up to you Alice."
"I-"I was about to say, but Carlisle cut me off.
"Aro, we've been friends for so long, surely there must be another way for this to end."
Aro tut-ted, and thought over it for awhile, and finally said "Alright, on account of our long years of friendship, we, the Volturi are giving you a week to make your decision. After a week, if there is no news, we will attack. After all, the Volturi isn't heartless."
The Volturi thought they were not heartless? They, were here, in our living room, threatening to rip me away from my family, my soulmate, and they weren't heartless?
But, a small voice whispered at the back of my mind, You brought this upon yourself.
"We'll fight you now, we'd never let Alice go!" Emmett boomed, looking ready to start a brawl,
"No Emmett. Don't." I didn't want them to fight! Not for me!
"You see, Alice has spoken. Now, goodbye Cullens, see you in a week" Aro waved, and made his way out. Caius glared at us, as though displeased at how things had turned out.
"Carlisle," Aro addressed him before leaving, "I hope you don't mind about this… ah, recruiting. I hope we can still be friends after this."
"Aro, you are taking my daughter away, and you still want to be on friendly terms?" Carlisle harsher than I've ever heard him, "Sorry to disappoint."
"Well, I'm sad it had to turn out this way," Aro sighed, before leaving, the black cloaks trailing after him.
