If you don't like it, it probably wasn't meant for you.
In the dead of the night
No one knows when he sleeps.
He sits curled up at the end of the couch, watching and watching the screens, never seeming to grow tired of it. There are chocolate bars, candies and crumbs of cakes on a table next to his couch. There is a small tottering pile of sugar cubes- some have already fallen down- as well. There is an empty cup and all the papers are scattered on the ground.
His eyes are glued to the screen as he licks at his lollipop.
His toes wiggle and he taps out a rhythm against the arm. The office is deathly silent around him. Everyone has dozed off, all in various states of work. Most are stretched out on the ground while Souchiro Yagami is dozing in a chair. Though he doesnt look as comfortable as he does.
Even Raito is fast asleep, slumped over onto the table. His forehead is on a pile of papers and he snores softly, rustling the edges of the papers.
He watches the rise and fall of Misa's chest on the screen.
He reaches for a chocolate bar when he's done with his lollipop.
Misa doesn't know why she woke up.
She lies on her bed, blinking away sleep and suddenly feels the urge to use the bathroom. She finishes her job, washes her hands and comes back to bed.
After a few minutes of lying on her back and wishing to go to sleep, she wriggles so that she's on her side and finally ends up on her stomach.
Twenty minutes later, she sits up. She is tired of trying to sleep.
Let sleep come when it wants to ! Misa will find something else to do.
She switches on the light and flops over to the desk. There is a lyrics notebook, open on the desk and Misa reads through what she wrote before she slept.
She tries to continue on the same vein but she doesnt like the end result so she tears the page off the notebook and throws into the waste bin.
Pushing her pen away from her, Misa decides that she doesnt want to write lyrics.
Raito is the one who helps her write lyrics.
He doesn't actually help Misa; Raito is the inspiration that had helped her write most of the songs for her newest album !
If it weren't for Raito, she wouldn't know what to do.
She looks at the clock. Sometimes Raito was up at this time, working away hard at the case.
She decides to go surprise and cheer him up !
She waves to the cameras and skips to the door. In no time, she makes her way to the surveillance room.
She opens the door noiselessly so that she doesn't attract attention.
The room is dark except for the flickering light from the tv screens.
They aren't sitting around the table like they usually do.
Only one figure is in its usual position, hunched over on one end of the couch.
Ryuuzaki would never change, Misa decides.
She tiptoes around the room and finds Raito fast asleep on a chair. His head is on the table and he looks adorable.
Misa giggles to herself and wishes that she had brought her camera along.
She presses a kiss to Raito's forehead.
He mumbles something and turns his head away. Misa ignores the little jabs to her heart.
Raito is the same, asleep or awake.
Misa notices that none of them have blankets, covering them. She finds some in a closet down the hallway and drapes them over them.
She tucks one around Raito lovingly before turning to Ryuuzaki last.
Since he is awake, she can merely give it to him.
She is surprised that Ryuuzaki hasn't said anything ever since she came in.
Only when she goes near him, does she realize why. Ryuuzaki is fast asleep, hunched over, his thumb pressed to his lips.
Ryuuzaki has to be very uncomfortable like that! No matter how much Misa hates Ryuuzaki at times, she doesn't want him to be hurt or in pain.
So, Misa shifts him so that he is lying down on the couch. He stretches out and his head lols to one side. She gently pulls away his thumb from his lips and puts it down.
Misa spreads the blanket over him and pushes away strands of black hair that must surely be falling into his eyes.
His hair is surprisingly soft and very dark against his pale skin. He must have been so tired to have drifted off like that.
Misa's hands softly trace the darkness beneath his eyes.
Ryuuzaki must work very hard, Misa realizes. He is after all a world famous detective and must have tons of cases like this one.
"Poor Ryuuzaki-san." Misa whispers.
He is nice to Misa even if Raito isn't sometimes.
On an impulse, Misa presses a kiss to the mess of hair. Ryuuzaki doesn't turn away like Raito but rather turns towards her.
Misa walks back to her room slowly.
It feels like a dream but Misa knows she is awake. Ryuuzaki is always a gentleman to her.
He is kind. More than Raito is to her.
And suddenly he seems to have become more handsome than Raito too.
It must be a dream or some sort of magic in the air, Misa concludes.
Long black eyelashes flash open when Misa shuts the door.
He sits up and looks around at the quiet, sleeping office.
He feels the warmth of her blanket on him, the softness of her kiss and the warmth of her hands.
He looks to the screen and watches Misa sit down and eventually lie down on the bed.
"Sweet dreams, Misa."
She sits on the bed in the dim light of her nightlight and remembers the softness of Ryuuzaki's hair.
She lies down onto her side and stares at the wall.
Misa is off into a dream before she knows it.
Raito doesn't star in it like always.
The dream has impressions of soft dark hair, haggard eyes and pale, chalky skin.
