It was difficult to know what sounded more pained; the tortured hinges on the motel door or the battered figure that staggered through it with a choking groan.

Sam leapt out of bed and gathered the wreckage of his brother into his arms; "Jesus bro', you look like you lost an argument with a freight train; what the hell happened?"

Dean smirked crookedly through swollen lips speckled with scarlet foam; "psycho redneck who din't like bein' hustled outta his paycheck happened."

He shakily deposited a bloodstained wad of crumpled dollar bills into Sam's hand.

"Y'can buy those n-new jeans now, S'my."
