Chapter Five:

Sam stretched in the early morning sun as he climbed out of Optimus' terrestrial form. He really wasn't sure why the Autobots leader liked to visit the suggested locations for the new Autobot base so early. Perhaps he was just taking in the sights of the Western United States. He had to admit that he always did like the rugged terrain.

In a little less than 2 weeks, Sam, Optimus and Carly had traveled to most of the locations that Mearing had given him. Most of them Optimus had decided where too close to cities. Even without voicing his concern, Sam could tell that Optimus was worried that the Decepticons would reappear and cause chaos and destruction once again. That was why Optimus seemed to want a location that was fairly isolated from everything.

"So what about this place?" Sam asked, squinting against the sun as he looked up at the bipedal form of Optimus.

"It is remote, yet not too far from a city. We could even use those mountains in the distance to create a more secure location." Optimus said, pointing in the distance.

"I'm sure that Mearing would agree to that."

"I agree. This shall be our new base of operations."

"Good! Now let's get back to the hotel and get Carly."

Optimus quickly transformed into his terrestrial form and Sam climbed into the cab. "The tone of your voice seems worried," Optimus said through his radio as they traveled back towards hotel in Elko, Nevada.

"A bit. She wasn't feeling good last night and I really didn't want to leave her this morning. But she assured me that she was ok."

"And I'm sure that she is." Optimus said, trying to reassure his friend.

"Thanks Optimus."

Carly set a bottle of ginger ale and some crackers down on the checkout counter in a pharmacy that wasn't far from the hotel where they had stayed the night. She rarely got sick and whenever she had in the past, she had simply stayed in bed for a day or two and then felt a lot better.

But not this time.

This time she just felt that everything in her body was off. The first thing that she was going to do was visit her doctor.

"How are you today ma'am?" the counter clerk asked as she began to ring up the two items.

"Good," Carly answered as something caught her eye that was sitting next to the counter. She picked up the little pink box and stared at it. Maybe, just maybe, this little box could rule out one thing that could be making her body feel off. Or it could tell her exactly as wrong with her.

"Is there anything else that I can get you?" the clerk asked as she finished the order.

"This too," Carly said handing her the box.

The clerk nodded and added the item to the order. Carly quickly paid and made her way back to the hotel with her mind going a million miles an hour.
