Chapter 1

Hostage

The smell of burning flesh and wood drifted through the night air as the smoke began to clear.

Trying to grab whatever she could get her hands on, the young woman wheezed.

She felt nothing but pain in her legs as they began to go numb. She slowly turned around, only to find half of a refrigerator on her legs.

The tips of her strawberry-blonde hair were burnt, She coughed as ashes burnt her eyes.

How did this happen...why? How could life be so, perfect...then...nothing.

Why was she still alive?

Were the voices she heard in the distance friends

or enemies...

or was it simply death calling her name.

Whatever it was...

it was getting closer...

...

Minutes before...

"Erin?" The blonde-haired woman called from the kitchen as she sat the phone down.

The strawberry-blonde, young twenty-one year old came through the back screen door as she smiled.

"Yes?" Erin asked as her mother went to the refrigerator.

"That was the University, they'd like to know when you plan on starting your next classes." The woman sat the plate of food on the counter.

"I'm starting back Monday." Erin smiled as she poured a class of lemonade and headed back out the door.

One the patio she spotted her Father, who was calmly reading the paper, her little brother, Tom, playing in the sandbox. Her older sister ,Lisa, who was on the phone with her new boyfriend.

"OH!" Erin gasped as someone grabbed her by the waist as pulled her back.

"Thank you." The brown-haired young man took the glass from her hand as she smiled up.

"Chris that was mine!" Erin elbowed him in the ribs as she laughed.

Chris was indeed the love of her life.

She admitted they've been though some rough times, Chris had cheated on her several times, but he made promise to her, to never again betray her trust like that again.

Erin gently laid her hand on the silver ring hanging from her necklace.

Along with that promise came a ring, an engagement ring. But they had decided to wait a bit since they were both still young. But knowing that they would one day be married brought joy to her heart.

"Love you baby." Chris kissed her head as he sat down with her in his lap.

This was perfect

Erin had never felt so happy, she had her friends , family, and the one she loved most right there with her and she was so thankful for that.

...

Where did all that go? She asked herself as she looked around at the dull, depressing setting.

Last thing she could remember was looking into the brown eyes of Chris...then...Bang!

What caused this...or who. She wondered if it was an accident or did someone bomb her town on purpose!

"Check over there!"

She froze as she heard voices and footsteps approaching. She put her hand over her mouth as she remained still.

"Nothing!" She heard again as she breathed, accidently letting a cough out. "Wait!"

Before she had time to react she felt herself being dragged out of the rubble by her hair.

She screamed in pain as she looked into the eyes of the one who hurt her. Two men in blue uniforms glared down at her as she gasped in horror.

"We got another one!"

Another? She thought.

That meant...someone else must have survived.

"Put her with the rest!" She heard a stern sounding woman with an accent say as she turned to her left and spotted the source of the voice.

A tall, thin woman dressed in black and red was looking at her threw her blue glasses. "The Commander will be most disappointed to find out that they're survivors!"

"Right away! Get up!" The man grabbed her arm and put her in cuffs as he led her to the large jet.

"That's all we could find." One man reported to the woman.

As Erin was being dragged into the jet she stared wide-eyed at the man coming out of it. A tall, brutish looking man with metal skin and green eyes walked by her and approached the other woman.

"Destro Darling, we found some prisoners dear." The woman smiled before kissing the man.

"The Commander will not be happy, perhaps we should just kill them now and tell him the missile test was a success!" The man grinned.

"Now, now darling we mustn't lie!" The woman flipped her long black hair back.

"Very well Baroness." The man called Destro smiled before leading her into the jet.

...

Erin sat as she looked around at the four other survivors. She recognized all of them.

One was an elderly man who owned a nearby General Store.

The other was a banker, followed by two other men she had seen in town before.

Were they all that was left? What about her family!

Panic and fear raced through her body as she struggled to hold back the tears that were forming. They can't be...t-they just can't be ...d-dead!

She sat and mourned for the next few hours before reaching their destination.

Her mind then wondered as to what was going to happen to her and the four other survivors.

The jet jolted a bit as it slowly came to a landing. Her heart began to race as the doors slid open and the woman called The Baroness and the man, Destro came in. "Time to go!" The Baroness grinned as the soldiers grabbed each hostage and yanked them off the jet.

Fear could be seen in every one of their eyes as they got off the platform. They were then ordered to get down on their knees and keep their heads down as they were held at gunpoint.

This was it!

Erin thought. They were going to be killed right then and there!

A few minutes went by as all five of them looked at each other in confusion. "I said heads down!" The Baroness commanded.

"The Commander is coming!" Destro said to her. An evil grin appeared on both of their faces as the hangar door slid open.

Erin kept her head down as there was an eerie silence, only footsteps could be heard. "Cobra Commander!" Destro saluted along with The Baroness. "These are the five survivors."

Her heart stopped as the sinister voice spoke. "Very well then..."

It was by far the creepiest voice she had ever heard in her life! It was a deep, raspy sort of voice that made her ears hurt but she still kept her head down and listened. "We'll have to start from scratch again!" The man shouted.

"What's the big deal!" Everyone stopped as one of the troops spoke up. The Commander slowly walked towards the man. "It's just five pe...!"

Erin winched as she heard the sound of a blade slicing through something...flesh.

She lost it when a head came rolling near her! Oh God! She did everything she could not to vomit. She closed her eyes as she gritted her teeth.

"Just five?" The voice repeated. "I want all of them dead! No survivors! I want none to survive my wrath! Understood!" The voice took a deep breath before turning its attention to the five. "So who do we have here?"

Erin heard the footsteps getting closer as she panicked. Whoever it was, he started at the other end of the hostages. "Now how does an elderly man survive a blast like that!"

He taunted. The man stuttered as the Commander cackled. He moved to the next. "Nice suit!" He grabbed the man by his collar. "A banker I presume?"

"Y-yes sir!" The man squeaked only to be laughed at.

The next man looked a bit shabby, whose eyes were bloodshot. "A drug addict no doubt!" He snapped. "Make that two..." He looked at the next man whose appearance was the same.

Erin froze, it was her turn. "And what is this?" She bit her lip. "A woman?"

Her heart stopped as the tip of a blade laid under her chin. It slowly raised her up so she was now face-to-face with the man.

She was horrified as she looked straight into her own reflection. The man was wearing a helmet and a mirror mask.

She could see the dirt and ruble on her face as he leaned forward. "And what is your name?" He snapped her back into reality as she stared. "Speak!"

She jumped as the voice shouted. Nothing..."Are you frightened?" He asked as she nodded 'yes'. "Speak Damnit!"

She shook her head 'no' as she glared at him. This was the man who was responsible for her friends and family's death! There was no way she was going to talk to him, even if he was threatening her!

What came next took her completely by surprise. The Commander had taken his hand and smacked her right across the face causing her to fall right on her chin on the floor.

She gasped for air as she tried to get up. "Get her out of my sight!" He shouted as two guards grabbed her by the wrist and hauled her up. "Put her away..." he looked at the four men. "And deal with them!"

As she was being dragged away she jumped as she heard four gunshots go off behind her. Then it hit her.

She was not getting out alive.
