Here is the revised version of Wild Hearts by Zayliah. I adopted the story to continue/redo it on behalf of Zayliah since it is claimed that the author is currently unable to finish it.
The crisp night air blew at Soi Fon's fur as she laid against the cold metal bars. And as much as she wanted to sleep the night away, her grey eyes would not cease from gazing onto the full moon that hovered just above her. Later, she looked away and glared at her sleeping captors. There's no way out, she thought.
To be skinned or sold, killed or used, so long as the humans are kept amused, the rhyme kept playing in her head and growled silently at the repetitive memory. She tries to shoo it away and shortly after, the memory of the loud clash of metal as the steel bars shut in on her came to mind.
It was broad daylight when she and her brothers went hunting. And all morning, she had kept her eyes on one of the impalas that strayed from its crowd.
She prowled through the prairie eying her prey, stealthily as she stayed low and hidden in the tall grass. When she came close enough, she crouched, ready to pounce on the oblivious animal as it busily chewed on the leaves of an unidentifiable plant.
Then, she propelled with enormous speed, leaving behind all stealth as a rush of adrenaline surged through her body that excited her. She latched onto the impala's rear then dug her claws as hard as she could but met its strong hind legs against her chest. She yowled in pain as the air was kicked out of her lungs and was thrown unceremoniously to the ground.
'Ch!' Soi Fon pushed herself back to sit as she vigorously shook her head due to the blur in her vision.
"Soi, you alright?" asked Satoshi, her oldest brother, while Suno, the second youngest, just stared at her.
"I'm... fine," Soi grunted as she avoided their gazes, slightly ashamed and embarrassed. "...Sorry."
"Satoshi!" The three of them turned their heads to the direction of the voice finding Kenji, Saburo and Shiro. "The hunters... they're here."
At that very moment, gunshots roared loud and clear as a flock of birds flew away.
"We'll continue the hunt tonight at the far west," Satoshi decided, "The humans have poor eyesight; we'll be safer in the dark."
"Ugh," how Soi wished he was right. But fate decided to pull a cruel joke on her. The night went on quietly then since neither free nor captured beast made a sound. All she'll be hearing for the rest of the night was the roaring engine of the over-sized contraption she was on. She sighed as she settled her eyes for the full moon once more.
She tried to call for her own kin, hoping that at least one of them had made the effort to follow the truck. She made a chirping sound, voicing her call, again and again until it was really no use. There was nothing out there for her.
Soi Fon could only silently watch as her cage moved back and forth as two muscular men carried her cage to another truck.
"Where d'we put it?" the one with a gruff voice asked. "Ye ain't expectin' me ta put it in t'same cage with t'others. Could get wrong."
"Just put it in with the cub over there," the other pointed to the cage where a bear cub laid.
"Right'cha are," her cage was put up against another then one of the sides of the cage opened as the steel bars went up, "In ya go," there was a sudden push from a metal wall behind her. Feeling threatened, she growled loudly at the hunter only earning a harder push from behind. "I said, in ya go!" And with one forceful push, Soi Fon stumbled into the other cage as the metal door was slammed down.
Looking around her, Soi Fon saw other beasts and noticed that there were some shape-shifters like her. There were three huge cages, including hers, the first had two tigers, one of them had white fur. The other contained the pure animals, where they were all cramped inside it. With hopes of nothing, she lied again in her new cage, and then looked up at the sky, it was dawn already. She hissed at the sudden contact when the bear cub cuddled next to her. Another one.
"Move," she growled at the cub, harsher than she intended but the cub didn't bunch, instead it pleadingly looked at her.
"P-please... M-mama... she s-she..." the cub stammered, obviously traumatized. Sighing, she curled around the cub to comfort.
"What's your name?"
"L-Lucion... Fun..." Lucion? And then she remembered hearing from one of the vanguards of her clan that Lucion was supposedly the next leader of the main demon bear sloth. Wonder how he ended up here. She looked down at the cub again, only to find him fast asleep.
"Not too far, Soi," Kaoru, her mother, said before Soi was lifted up by the scruff, only to be brought back to the litter. The very moment she was put down, she was tackled by Suno then quickly recovered to resume her chase. After successfully latching onto Suno, she pinned him to the ground while Kenji tried to join in the romp, her other siblings busy with their own game of tag.
And with a shift of the wind, Kaoru's ears perked then sniffed the air. Recognizing the scent, she quickly chirped while the six cubs came running but Soi tripped over.
She quickly got up then looked to where her mother was but the large shadow that was cast on her grabbed her attention. She turned behind her to see tall figures, there were more than five of them, all dark-skinned and stood on two legs.
"Soi!" Her mother frantically called but Soi Fon stayed still as transfixing golden eyes stared at her. Behind the tall figures was a smaller but similar looking one with purple hair.
"Fon, we've come for your servitude."
Again, this is not mine. All credits go to Zayliah, original author of Wild Hearts.
I've already asked for the author's permission to have the story rewritten.
No grudges, yeah?
