The Moon Hunter

Part One

Maria Blanc, 26-years old, was walking alone to work one Tuesday night. Maria worked the nightshift at the only hospital in Bon Temp and she was always walking home late in the night when hardly anyone was out. This, however, never unsettled Maria who always felt calm and at ease in the night.

That night was different, that night Maria felt a crawling sensation up and down her spine. Something was watching her and she knew it, but, to her eyes, no one was around.

Maria began walking at a quick pace, a great contrast to her usually leisurely stroll, and with each hurried step the crawling sensation intensified. It wasn't until Maria heard a twig snap very close behind her that she began to run for her life.

Whatever was following her began to run as well, at a much faster speed.

Maria was barely a block away from her home when her chaser finally struck, biting in her left calve and ripping it away from her ankle. In a supernatural speed it did the same to Maria's other calve and she fell, helpless, to the ground.

With its prey disabled the monster was able to take its time, relishing in the kill. As screams echoed through the night and blood spurted every which way, the monster licked its lips and howled with glee at the full moon. If things went its way there would be more nights like this, but the monster had been sloppy and thus attracted the attention of four vampires that had no patient for spree killers, especially in Bon Temp.
