It was still early in the morning when Jennifer got back from her run in Hyde Park, something that she'd always enjoyed doing when they stayed at their London home. Letting herself in through the front door she closed it quietly and stopped and listened a moment, the house was silent and she went through to the kitchen and took a bottle of water from the fridge, taking a drink before she headed upstairs and in to the bathroom.

Ten minutes later she emerged from the shower wrapped in a towel and walked through to the master bedroom. She stopped in the doorway, smiling at the scene in front of her. Jonathan was lying in the middle of their king-size bed with their year old daughter Amy in his arms, both of them sleeping peacefully. Glancing at the empty baby bottle on the bedside cabinet Jennifer guessed Amy must have wakened shortly after she'd left for her run. A full tummy and a cuddle from her Daddy had obviously sent her off to sleep again and Jennifer smiled as she watched them, they were so beautiful together.

Jonathan had wakened and was watching Jennifer gazing at their daughter, her love for her family was evident. Amy was their miracle late in life baby, who, years after fertility issues had meant them giving up hope, they'd been amazed to discover was on her way to them. They were both thankful every day for that blessing, she was beautiful and sweet natured, always smiling and happy, she'd made it easy for them to adjust to parenthood.

Jennifer realised she was being watched, and she walked across to the bed and leant over to kiss her husband on the lips and then their daughter on her head, loving the smell of baby shampoo from her soft strawberry blonde curls.

"How was your run?" Jonathan spoke quietly, running his hand over Amy's silky hair as he looked at Jennifer.

"Good thanks, I just went up to the park, hardly saw a soul, another couple of joggers and 2 dog walkers. It's still early yet." Amy turned her head and sighed in her sleep and Jennifer smiled. "I'll put her back in her crib for now, she won't want her breakfast for a while yet." Jonathan nodded and relaxed his arms allowing Jennifer to lift their daughter from him.

Through in Amy's bedroom Jennifer kissed her baby girl and laid her gently in her crib, on her back. She stretched then turned over on to her side and carried on sleeping as her Mommy smiled and walked back through to the master bedroom. Jonathan was still in bed and he grinned as Jennifer came towards him. "Haven't you had enough exercise this morning?" he asked, knowing the look on her face. She shook her head and dropped her towel on the floor before joining him in the bed. Jonathan looked at her for a moment, admiring her and thinking once again how fortunate he was, before she reached up and put her arms around his neck pulling him towards her and capturing his lips.

They were still lying in each other's arms a while later, talking about the day ahead, when they heard Amy babbling to herself. Jennifer smiled and moved to sit up but before she could get out of bed Amy began calling on her Daddy. It had been her first word and had remained her favourite even although she'd added a few more to her vocabulary recently. Jonathan couldn't hide his grin and Jennifer watched him as he got up and put on his robe. He went through to Amy's room and she was standing up in her crib. Her whole face lit up when she saw her Daddy and she put her arms up to him. Lifting her up Jonathan kissed her and she cuddled in to him. "Lets go and see Mommy!" He told her and she lifted her head from his shoulder looking for Jennifer.

Jennifer was just tying her robe when Jonathan appeared back with Amy in his arms and she smiled at her daughter.

"Hello precious." She said as the baby put her arms out to her, taking her Jennifer kissed her cheek and held her close. Jonathan put his arms around them and kissed them both.

"I'm going for a shower, I'll be down shortly. Oh I changed her when she had her bottle." He said as he went through to the bathroom.

Jennifer took Amy downstairs and put her in her highchair while she made her breakfast and put a pot of coffee on. Jennifer chatted to her as she moved around the kitchen and she was quite happy playing with the toys attached to her chair while she waited for her breakfast. She was already eating her cereal when her Daddy came in to the kitchen and poured himself some coffee.

"What time's your meeting darling?" Jennifer asked as she helped feed Amy with one spoon as Amy fed herself with another, happily getting some of it on her face and hands as well as the tray of the highchair. She looked at the little puddle on the tray and rubbed her fingers in it while her Mommy was talking to her Daddy.

"It's at 10.00, and it shouldn't last more than a couple of hours. What time are you going out?"

"Just when we're organised, Harrods opens at 10 but it'll only take 5 minutes to walk along. Amy's cake is being delivered after 12 so I want to be back by then."

"I can't believe it's her Birthday tomorrow! It just seems like 5 minutes since she was born." Putting down his coffee cup Jonathan crossed to the highchair and leaned down to kiss his daughter, he wasn't quick enough and she grabbed his tie as he moved back, getting oatmeal on it and grinning at him. Jonathan looked down at it and shrugged his shoulders "You don't like this one then huh?"

Amy shook her head and said "no!" much to Jennifer's amusement.

"Fair enough. Daddy will have to go and find another one now and then get going." He smiled and kissed them both, keeping his hand on his tie this time. "See you later." He said as he headed off.

"Bye... say bye-bye to Daddy" Jennifer told Amy, encouraging her as she repeated "bye-bye" and waved her oatmeal covered hand. Jennifer shook her head, smiling at Amy's expression as she looked at the cereal between her fingers then clapped her sticky hands together.

They finished breakfast and Jennifer washed and dressed Amy first and took her into their bedroom with her whilst she got dressed. She looked so sweet in her pink and white striped Osh Kosh overalls with a white t-shirt underneath and a pink hoodie on top. Jennifer kept one eye on Amy as she brushed her hair and put some make up on, she'd been walking for a month and was pretty steady on her feet now so she loved exploring, but she seemed content to play with the hairbrush and wander around close to her Mommy. At one point she stopped and watched as Jennifer applied her mascara, grinning when she caught her Mommy's eyes in the mirror. Jennifer grinned back and Amy toddled over to her, Jennifer lifted her up so she could look at herself in the mirror. Amy smiled at their reflection then looked at her Mommy and reached to touch her face. Jennifer kissed her daughters fingers then put her down while she finished getting ready.

A few minutes later with Amy strapped in to her stroller they were off out. Jennifer walked down on to the Fulham Road and along Brompton Road and they were at Harrods in 5 minutes. Taking the lift to the 4th floor she avoided the Toy department, taking Amy to Children's Footwear where she was being measured for her first shoes. One pair of black and one pair of white t bar patent leather start-rite shoes later and it was through to the Toy department and a reward for her patience. Less than an hour after they got there they were on their way home with Amy wearing her new white shoes and cuddling her new baby doll.

Amy's Birthday cake and the helium balloons arrived just after 12 and Jonathan got home shortly afterwards. They all had lunch together then Amy had a nap whilst Jennifer checked emails from home and caught up with some work, and Jonathan went over paperwork from his meeting.

After her nap Jonathan changed Amy, gave her a drink and took her out for a walk to give Jennifer some more time to work. It was a routine that they had adapted to quickly and that worked for them all so they had no need for a Nanny.

Jennifer finished her work in time to feed Amy her dinner and Jonathan caught up on what the markets back home were doing, then they had some play time before she had her bath. Jennifer bathed her and changed her in to pink cotton pyjamas then handed her to Jonathan who read her a story while she drank her milk. He was sitting in the rocking chair in Amy's bedroom when Jennifer came upstairs to say good night to their daughter, who was almost asleep in her Daddy's arms.

"Night night sweetie." Jennifer whispered as she leaned over to kiss her softly. Amy gave her a sleepy smile and snuggled in to her Daddy's chest, Jennifer sat beside them stroking her hair and a few minutes later Amy was sound asleep.

They tucked her in, her favourite blanket around her and her new doll in beside her.

Downstairs Jonathan put the TV on to catch the Business Headlines and Jennifer was in the kitchen organising their dinner, and after they'd eaten they sat on the sofa and he encouraged her to stretch out on it with her head on a cushion in his lap, which she did smiling up at him. He leaned down to kiss her lips.

"This has been the best 12 months of my life." Jennifer told him

"Mine too... I never knew having a baby would be so amazing."

"I can't imagine not having Amy and I try not to think about the night we almost lost her because it's too awful to contemplate what might have happened." Jennifer still felt very emotional looking back on Amy's birth, they owed her life to the Paramedics and the Medical Team at Cedars Sinai and would be eternally grateful to all of them.

"Jennifer, she's here and she's perfect. Fit and healthy, very bright and completely gorgeous... just like her Mommy!" He told her with a smile, they locked eyes and he saw her tears. "Come on darling, no tears, Amy is fine, she's better than fine!"

"It's tears of happiness, and joy, and love. I never believed I could feel this way about another person. I never felt real love until I met you Jonathan, and I thought our lives were perfect the way they were, but creating a life together was the most incredible thing... Sometimes I look at her and I think my heart will burst, she's a complete joy. That's amazing and frightening at the same time because I have no idea what I would do if anything bad ever happened to her."

"I understand how you feel, I've held her in my arms wishing I could keep her there, safe forever." He ran his hand through Jennifer's hair then rested his fingers on her face, gently caressing her cheek. "Amy is going to have a wonderful life, she'll have everything she could ever want, and she'll have us looking out for her and loving her." Jennifer looked at him and nodded her head. "So no more negative thoughts, let's just look forward to having a lovely day tomorrow celebrating the first of dozens of Birthdays to come for our little Princess."

"Ok!" Jennifer agreed, smiling as he wiped away the tear that had escaped on to her cheek.

"Come on, time for bed, we have a big day ahead." Jonathan let Jennifer get up and then he followed her and they put the lights off as they headed upstairs.

They looked in on Amy who was sleeping soundly and then headed to their own room.

Jonathan and Jennifer were awake before Amy in the morning and when she woke up and started calling for her Daddy he was right there, along with her Mommy, to wish her Happy Birthday! They were both excited while she was totally unconcerned about the fuss and lost interest part way through the present opening, preferring to rip the wrapping paper to pieces than play with her new toys!

After breakfast Jonathan got Amy's new push-along baby trike ready and after strapping her in to it they all headed out and up to Hyde Park. Jennifer walked alongside her to see her reaction and she loved it.

"Oh Jonathan she looks so grown up!" Jennifer told him as Amy turned to her and grinned, showing off all 8 of her front teeth. Jonathan stopped pushing her a moment so he could see her face and Amy laughed and kicked her legs wanting to get on the move again.

After the walk to the park and a go on the baby swings they let Amy walk for a bit as they went down to the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. They sat there for a while watching older children playing in the water and then walked home again with Amy on her trike.

After her lunch and some play time Amy had her usual nap and as Jennifer tidied away the wrapping paper and boxes from her presents Jonathan tried a few out. He liked the Busy Ball Popper and the Piano that popped up different animals when the keys were pressed. Jennifer watched him in amusement and once the rubbish was cleared away she sat on the sofa next to him.

Putting down the toys Jonathan smiled at his wife and sat back to look at her.

"What?" she asked him, knowing he wanted to say something.

"You look beautiful."

"Well thank you, were you hoping for a nap too?" Jennifer grinned.

"I have a surprise for you..."

"Really? You know how much I love surprises!" She continued to smile at him and Jonathan took her hand in his then put his other hand in his pocket and took out a box from her favourite London Jeweller.

"I had this commissioned for you, to celebrate Amy's first Birthday."

Jennifer opened the box and it contained a bangle of Scottish Gold with three engraved hearts separated by diamonds. It was beautiful and as Jennifer picked it up out of the box she saw the smaller identical one underneath it. Lifting her eyes to look in to Jonathan's face she smiled at him with tears in her eyes. "One for Amy too?" She asked, and he nodded. "They're beautiful Jonathan, you spoil us!"

"I can afford to spoil you both, but I could never put a value on the happiness you two have given me."

"I love it...and I love you, thank you darling." Jennifer put her bangle on and leant across to kiss him.

"I love you too."

It was a nice evening and they drove, in the Jag that they kept in London, to Tower Hill and parked in the car park, before putting Amy in her stroller and walking along the Thames and across Tower Bridge to the South side of the river. They headed towards HMS Belfast and stopped at their favourite vantage point to look back at the bridge, where so many years earlier the banners had dropped at Jonathan's request asking Jennifer to marry him. It had felt like an appropriate place for them to go on Amy's Birthday and Jonathan unstrapped her from the stroller and lifted her in to his arms. Holding her in his left arm he put his other arm around Jennifer's shoulders as they turned and looked at the bridge.

Jennifer felt her eyes fill with tears again and as she raised her hand to wipe them, Jonathan looked at her. It still surprised him at times how emotional she was since they'd become parents, but he understood the strength of her feelings for their family and he smiled and held Amy out to her , Jennifer took her as Jonathan wrapped his arm around her again and they looked back at Tower Bridge re-living happy memories.

They stood in silence for a few minutes until Amy, who'd been quietly watching her Mommy and Daddy with a curious expression, decided to get their attention and she wriggled in Jennifer's arms and started chatting to them.

"Emotional moment over!" Jennifer smiled and turned her full attention to her daughter. "What are you saying sweetie? I guess you want to get on the move again." Amy grinned at her and she kissed her before putting her down and taking her hand so she could walk a bit. They headed back towards the bridge again at a slow pace and after a few minutes Jonathan lifted his daughter in to his arms and Jennifer pushed the stroller. They shared a smile when they walked past The Tower of London as more memories came back to them, and they continued on to the car park.

Back at the house they bathed Amy together and put her to bed after her milk and story, and they could hear her chatting quietly to her new doll as they left her and went downstairs.

Jennifer made coffee while Jonathan checked his emails and they met back in the living room.

"Do you want to watch the news?" Jennifer asked as she handed Jonathan his coffee.

"No thanks darling, I'll catch it later... There's something I'd like to talk to you about." Jennifer looked at him then sat next to him on the sofa and turned towards him so they were face to face. Jonathan continued "I've been thinking a lot lately about taking a much smaller role in Hart Industries, Amy is getting bigger and is doing so much more these days – learning to walk and talk and developing her personality – and I don't want to miss out on all the day to day things that you two do together." Jennifer nodded, she knew how quickly Amy was changing, and she was growing and learning new things every day. She was like a little sponge soaking everything up and it wasn't a surprise that Jonathan would want to be a bigger part of that. They would only ever have one child and he could afford not to go in to the office every day so there was no need for him to miss out on anything.

"What did you have in mind darling?"

"I'd like us to have our permanent base in London for a while. I can work in our office here 2 days a week which will mean I can keep overall control of the company, but delegate much more. Nick is more than capable of stepping up and taking on more responsibility in L.A." Jennifer listened with a mixture of surprise and delight. She loved London, it had been her home before she met Jonathan and the times they'd spent here over the years had always been happy ones.

"What do you think?" Jonathan asked her as he lifted her hand and laced his fingers through hers.

"I think it's a wonderful idea Jonathan, we'd love spending more time with you, and you know how at home I feel here in London. Are you sure it's what you want though? California has always been your home."

"If we stayed year round in L.A I'd probably never only work 2 days a week, but here I will. We can do it on a trial basis for a year and see how it works out. Besides, I'm not getting any younger, it's time I started working fewer hours!" He smiled at her and she leaned across to kiss him.

"You just get better with age!" She told him as they kissed again. Jonathan let go of her hand and pulled her into his arms as their gentle kisses turned more passionate. The passionate kisses lead to more and they'd headed upstairs.

Jennifer lay in Jonathan's arms after they'd made love and when he drifted off to sleep she carefully slipped out of bed and after putting her robe on went back downstairs. She shook her head amused by the almost full cups of cold coffee they'd left behind, and lifted them through to the kitchen to tip them out. It was still early and she pottered around for a while, putting Amy's cup, bowl and spoon in the dishwasher and the clothes she'd been wearing earlier in the washing machine ready to go on in the morning. She picked a couple of toys up and put them in the toy box in the corner of the room and finally she picked up Amy's new shoes and put them with theirs out in the hallway, smiling at how tiny they looked next to Jonathan's loafers. They were all simple everyday Mommy tasks that for many years she was convinced she'd never have the chance to do.

Having always been a completely rational and very positive person, it had surprised Jennifer when during her pregnancy she'd had doubts and fears, the old saying that "nobody has everything" came to mind a few times as she wondered if anybody was allowed to have so much, and be so happy. When she'd suffered the haemorrhage and Amy had been delivered by emergency c-section she'd wondered if they weren't going to get their "icing on the cake" after all. But here they were a year on, everybody healthy and everybody happy.

Life didn't get any better than hers was and Jennifer felt totally blessed. As she headed back to bed she stopped and looked in on their precious daughter who was a real mixture of them both. Her hair was reddish blonde with soft baby curls, and from photographs of herself as a child Jennifer knew Amy looked very like her, but much to their delight she had her Daddy's beautiful blue eyes and would probably also have his ability to use them to charm people! Jennifer knew that Jonathan was very proud that he was someone's Daddy, because he'd never felt like anyone's son, and she was proud that she'd been able to give him that gift after everything he'd given her. Walking to Amy's crib she gazed down at her, she was sleeping peacefully with her favourite blanket clutched in one hand and as Jennifer kissed her finger tips and gently touched them to her daughter's soft baby cheek, Amy gave a little sigh and tightened her grip on her blanket.

"Sweet dreams precious girl" Jennifer whispered. She stood for a moment then turned and walked back to the master bedroom and in to Jonathan's arms.
